discounts on laptops???

my DD needs a laptop to bring to college. DH is a high school teacher--i thought i heard at one point that apple or someone had educator discounts. anyone know if this is true? or are there student discounts?

i thought i also heard that students can get the microsoft office suite at a rock bottom price somewhere. anyone know about this, too?

I bought an Apple laptop last year, the discount isn't much, $100, but they were running a promotion to get a free iPod touch after rebate. This was with my student ID, not sure if educators get the same discount. But your daughter should have a student ID, I think, not sure, but they might accept high school ID cards if she doesn't have her college ID yet.

Also, some schools run special programs with computer companies, my undergrad had a "deal" with Dell, only it wasn't much of a deal. It was a prepackaged thing, which came with all this stuff that I didn't need that it was a waste.

My DS had a DELL Laptop all 4 years of college. He grad last May. This past Sept he wanted one of those NEW MacBooks....he went to the MAC Store and they gave him the college discount even though he had just graduated. He did still have his i.d. in his wallet. Mac said NO PROBLEM.

I will say those MacBooks are amazing. My other DS was amazed by DS#2's MacBook, that he just went and bought one. The lighted keyboard is FAB!!!

Anyway, go to the Apple Store and speak to the Rep's...see what they say about school discounts. Good Luck.

You might want to try the refurbished Macs sold at the Apple Store. I've never bought one but I did buy 5 Ipods that were all great.

Check the college site and see their specifications before you buy as they may require certain laptops to be compatible with their network.
DS went laptop shopping yesterday and he likes the Sony Vio ( sp) but then he wants 4 gb ram, and 500 HD and great graphics..

I just bought a new Mac laptop and since I'm a college student they gave me a fifty dollar discount on the extended warranty, a free printer, and a free ipod touch. It was a really good deal altogether.
