Evil woman!:lmao::lmao: Unless they put that cute Minnie on a magnet or keychain or cookie ornament, I can probably avoid it! Speaking of the Snowball, did you decide to use Photopass when you went to DLR with MIL? (It was the mother in law and not mom, right?)

I know, I'm bad but I just couldn't resist. Oh, and whatever you do, don't go looking for the disneyland gingerbread castle ornament on ebay. ;)

You have a great memory. Yes, it was my MIL that we went with. We did do some photopass pictures. No cheesy ones, just trying to get a good picture with DS who doesn't understand about getting his picture taken and has no desire to smile on command. So, they aren't the best pictures in the world but some of them are sort of cute. I think I might order something cheap on the site so i can get another 30 days to hopefully go back and get some more pictures taken.

:lmao: now I'm singing that to the Rawhide tune....... :rotfl:

:lmao: Yes, all part of my evil plan. Not only do I try to convince people to spend money on things they don't need but I can also get a tune stuck in their heads.

Actually, I haven't looked on eBay yet for the Castle, but I think I have that gingerbread cookie Castle ornament from last year, if it is the same one I am thinking of. It is not a flat ornament. It is kind of a mini-sculpture, with reddish-pink-white 'frosting' decorations on the outside. If that is the same one, I snapped it up in my gingerbread sweep of the Gag Factory last year! It is actually one of my favorite souvenirs. I really like it. So I might still be able to avoid that darn Snowball yet!!! So far, I have not heard of anything all new that DLR has put out this year that will tempt me beyond belief, but I haven't gotten there to see for myself yet, and sometimes I find that I get lured in over something that they probably sell year-round and is not all that exclusive! The Mouse beckons, "Buy me...buy me..." and I will end up going home with some sort of crazy thing that I don't need, like a giant Mickey bean bag or whatever!

You know you could easily stick a magnet on the back and there you go

has anybody been to the outlet in Fullerton lately? any good buys?

That's true - but let's not plant that idea in my head, or I will be sticking magnets on all things Mickey. Buy a Mickey beignet - stick a magnet on it! Buy an actual gingerbread Mickey cookie - stick a magnet on it. Buy a Mickey kitchen towel - there goes the magnet!!!:rotfl: At least I can tell myself that magnet application is too much work and so I would rather just get the ready made ones!!!;)

Sherry, magnets aren't that much work! Just get the sticky ones and peel the tape off. Has anyone ever called Delivears and ask what they had on sale that day? Also, can we switch Rawhide to IASW? :rolleyes1

Okay, you asked for it:

It's a world of laughter and souveniers,
It's a world of trinkets to bring us cheer,
There's so much we can buy, if we don't we may cry,
It's a snowball afterall.

:rolleyes1

I have to tell myself that magnets are too much work so that I don't start buying everything in the park to turn into a magnet! If I tell myself it is too much trouble to make magnets, then I can stick with just getting the occasional really cute ready made magnets and put some kind of limit on myself! Fortunately for me, DLR used to sell many more cute magnets years ago (just like they sold much better watches - and many MORE watches - years ago) and they seem to have kind of scaled that back a lot. Pins have really taken over everything - pins have kind of obliterated all the other cool items as being the hot ticket to get. :santa: :goodvibes

Hey LavenderPeach, that was a great verse! Do you think they could add it to IASWH? Also, Sherry, I have a bunch of those watches, too. My dad worked WDW MK in the early 90's.

Ooooh! You probably have a ton of them! You probably even have some of the really cool ones I had to sell back in the late '90s (when I needed money)!:sad2: There were great watches that came out in the '90s, sold exclusively at the theme parks! Very clever designs! The watches specifically sold in DLR (and usually those were sold in WDW too, from what I heard) were much better than what was sold in the Disney Stores, though every now and then the Disney Stores had some good ones. I also got a few of the Cast Member exclusive watches through the collectors market, but those were very costly! It got to be too expensive of a habit overall - I think for everyone who collected watches - and I eventually gave up on trying to keep up with the latest releases. And then I noticed, even as far back as 8 years ago, that the number of watches sold in DLR had decreased significantly, and the designs were not as unique and clever anymore. I guess it is a supply and demand type of thing - the more people want watches, the more Disney feeds the habit. The more Disney feeds the habit, the more people want them! The pin phenomenon is a more manageable obsession for people because they are still affordable, for the most part, so people can get lots of them. And most of the designs are really great!

Oh, and by the way, I agree about LavenderPeach's quick and seamless lyric revamping of It's A Small World! That was great, and the lyrics actually seemed to work in the song. It wasn't just an awkward attempt to cram some words in there and make them fit!

A little OT from merchandise: To me, this year, Thanksgiving and Christmas seemed too close together. As soon as one holiday was over, another one was right around the bend, and I think a lot of people were kind of caught by surprise and haven't fully gotten into the season yet, let alone begun shopping. It just seems too soon to be Christmas, almost! So I just happened to notice that the Travel Channel is doing a marathon today of Christmas shows about beautiful, elaborate holiday displays (the one I am watching now is called Dazzling Holiday Lights, I think, and the houses and neighborhoods they are showing on here are amazing), and then sandwiched in between some of the holiday shows are several Disney-related shows, including the Samantha Brown's Disney Holiday Favorites. So if you need something to get you in the holiday frame of mind, put on the Travel Channel and that should do the trick!:santa:

Sherry, as the number of watches sold went down, did you notice that the price went up. Did I see that some watches are now selling for $250? Supply and demand, I guess. And as for the closeness of the holidays, do you think that might have something to do with the economy? The sooner the Christmas spirit hits; the sooner the wallets open! Have fun on your next trip! I have to wait until Feb. :sad2:

Yes, now that you mention it, the prices on watches did go way up as fewer of them were being sold in the parks and as the designs started getting less inventive! In the old days of my watch frenzy, I would literally come home from a DLR trip with 8-10 watches in my bags! Nowadays, if I decided to resume that nasty habit, which I would not, I would be lucky to get just one at those prices! $250 is too much for a watch, even if Mickey comes out and makes it for me himself!! I bet if they lowered the prices to what they used to be, people would jump on the watch bandwagon again, and it was still an expensive hobby even back in 1994! (Oh, but there were some GREAT ones being sold in DL!)

I think the economy is going to have a real effect on the holiday season in numerous ways overall - in and out of DLR. People can't get into the spirit because of money - and money shouldn't be the driving force for having a great Christmas, because that really isn't what the holiday is about as we all know, but let's face it, when you don't have money or have lost a job or something, you don't feel very merry and festive! And you don't feel like opening up your wallet and shopping, or get depressed because you can't open the wallet and shop! I was looking around my apartment the other day and thinking, you know, I really need to drag out some ornaments, and light some candles and turn on the lighted ToonTown houses, and flip on the Christmas radio station and make things Christmasy. But I just didn't feel like it. The DLR trip in 2 weeks was HARD to pull off - so much so that it almost killed my desire to go, and I almost cancelled a few times, because it was too frustrating to scrape up money and try to cut costs here and there while still being able to do some of what I want to do. But, that DLR trip will be MY holiday celebration. I generally don't do anything the rest of the entire holiday season, so spending some quality time in DLR with friends, during this magical time of year, will be it for me, so for that reason, it is worth it!

OMG, that was too perfect!!!!!! I see a new thread coming up, "Let's see what words will work with the IASW theme music" LOL

I am thinking LavenderPeach is a songwriter on the sly, and hasn't told us yet! That was pretty quick lyric-tweaking! That sort of thing would work really well with commercial jingles!

Last month when I was there, they had the Star Wars Mr Potato Heads for 40% off. I bought my boyfriend a Darth Mash (which I haven't been able to find anywhere else) for $7 and some change.

SherryE, took these specifically for you last night. They are ready for you!

These pics are JUST from one shop on Main Street. There is stuff e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e!

Love it! (I can see little dancing children with shopping bags and disney dollars in their hands as they spin.... :dance3: )

Thank you, Disney Dreams, for taking those pictures and posting them for me! I really appreciate that!:goodvibes That was very nice of you! And I think it will also be helpful for anyone else who hasn't been to DLR yet this season to kind of see some of the cute things so they know what to look for when they arrive. For example, I haven't bought Christmas or holiday cards at DLR in years. I used to, but stopped long ago. However, in that one photo you took that shows the card display, I see a couple of them I might want. I think I might actually get a couple of boxes. I like the Mickey snowman but I really think the Castle cards are quite beautiful. If you hadn't posted that picture I could have ended up missing them becasue that is not something I typically look for nowadays. (Sometimes, depending on how DLR trips are going, I don't spend as much time in shops browsing around as I would like.)

Yep - I had a hunch that the majority of the trees had to be hiding inside stores and restaurants, so the picture of the one tree inside the store seems to further support that theory!!! Very interesting, indeed. I think, on this board, we see a lot of exterior stuff - the Castle and IASW lit up at night, and various other holiday decorations - but we don't get to see a lot of the merchandise and things inside the shops, which is a whole other aspect to the Disney magic that people love!

So, again, thank you!!:goodvibes

:lmao: That would be a good thread! The lyrics could change with the seasons! :rotfl:

Yes, that's me, the undercover songwriter. :rotfl: Actually it was funny because it was early this morning when I got up and read Canyon girl's "request" for IASW instead of Rawhide and I was just sort of browsing different threads before eating breakfast. I went to go get my cereal when these new lyrics just sort of popped into my head which made me laugh. I realized I wouldn't remember them later so I ran back to the computer to type them out before I forgot what they were! :lmao:

Thanks! I like the image of the dolls with disney dollars and shopping bags. It could be DL's newest attraction! :rotfl:

I enjoyed looking at the pics you took of the holiday stuff. I've been to DL three times recently but haven't had a chance to look in the stores very much because i'm either chasing after DS or with DH who doesn't want to shop.

Oh and speaking of spotting the trees around DL (which I believe is actually 700, btw) I saw 5-6 little trees in the storybook land seen from the Casey Jr. train and the reindeer round-up has one on each table plus a couple of bigger ones. Hmmm...... Still missing at least 650 trees though. :confused3

Here is one for the Christmas eats thread:

It's a world of cocoa and cookies here.
It's a world of cider and muffins there.
There is so much to eat, but to eat it all now
will be a tummy ache afterall.
