I was in the parks today and saw that they had selected merchandise that was 40% off. The things that I saw that had the discount was the retro looking line, "Where dreams come true" line, and the 2008 line. When I was at P.T. Flea's Market shop that sells pins, they had a small section that was priced as 40% off w/ the general DLR & retro pins as well as a Mickey and Tinkerbell starter set. It's a good way to get some pins to trade and I know I sure did!
I'm not sure how much the regular Santa Mickey hats cost, but there was a special price for them for $13. I believe it also included a few other holiday hats as well as the Mickey one.
All of the discounted items are in many of the stores in both parks and will have a sign by them saying that the selected items are 40% off, which will be the stuff in that area. I don't know how long these discounts will last, but I thought I'd give you guys a heads up for those who are going to the parks soon. And as an extra bonus, APs get their regular discount on top of the 40%! Happy Shopping!

Ooh I hope that sticks around for a week! Alas with only a deluxe I don't get the superspecial premium ap discount, but 40% is OK. :)

Molly, make sure you ask everywhere if you can get the discount with your Deluxe. There were many times we thought we didn't qualify but we did. It never hurts to ask.

On merchandise? Except for certain places listed in the brochure for DTD, inside the parks you're not supposed to, that's odd.

Then again, a trusted person on another planet has gotten discounts at Royal Street Veranda, when they are NOT on the list and I have been told absolutely NO every time I've asked there, so obviously different CMs allow different things.

I asked every time I bought something, and every now and then I was given a merchandise discount with my deluxe ap. Most of the time, the answer was no (even at certain food places that were on the list), but I scored a few times! I got dh a shirt in DTD and they gave me an ap discount--20%! I thought the premium ap got you a 15% discount but I'm not complaining about either the fact that I got more or that they gave me the discount with my deluxe ap.

Yes on merchandise. Especially on pins. :) So we just ask everytime now. :)

I believe I have never seen 'Sale' signs in DLR shops! Is this something that happens often or is this a new thing to get people who are broke to buy stuff this year?

I know! I was really surprised to see the 40% off signs when I was there in October. They had lots of different stuff on sale at different stores, including WoD. I usually don't buy many souvenirs, but the sales actually made some stuff affordable!

Well, 40% off PLUS the AP discount is incredible! Now I am trying to recall if I saw any Sale signs in WoD when I was there at the beginning of October. Hmmm.... maybe I missed them or they hadn't put them up yet. I will tell myself that the Sales will be gone by the time I get to DLR in a couple of weeks, because I had already talked myself out of buying merchandise and I don't need the temptation!

Speaking of cute merchandise but OT a bit - today I just saw a picture of the cutest coin purse that is sold somewhere here in L.A. for $16 - it looks exactly like a Hostess Cupcake, white swirls across the top and all! It is adorable! See, I go nuts for those cute items that look like food!:lmao: Last December at DLR, I went nuts in the Gag Factory, buying up all the Mickey gingerbread cookie items like magnets and ornaments, etc., and the Castle cookie ornament is one of my very favorites. Back in 2000, I bought three magnets in the Gag Factory that remain among my all-time favorite DLR souvenirs - one was a magnet of the famous Mickey ice cream bar sold in the parks, another was the Mickey lollipop sold in the candy shops in DLR and the last magnet was a chocolate covered Mickey pretzel with sprinkles!! LOVE THOSE! Anything with Mickey that looks like a food item, I am a sucker! So if anything like that is on sale at DLR, then I am in trouble!!!:lmao:

I was there yesterday and they had all the merch. that read "where dreams come true" 40% off. This is because the Million dreams sort of year long celebration is quickly coming to an end.

DLR usually has a sale after Christmas too on some holiday stuff. You know Sherry, they brought back some of the holiday gingerbread items again this year. I don't remember if they had it last year, but I thought the Mickey gingerbread man cutter w/ a dish towel was pretty cute. Hopefully it'll be on sale after Christmas!

I'm so glad you knew what it was called fairycat bc I surely didn't. I knew that it had something to do w/ dreams, but knew it wasn't YOAMD. I had no idea what that line was called.

As for a discount in Oct, there was a 40% off sign on selected Disney shoes. There was a cute pair of black Mickey slip-ons, but since I was w/ my friends, I didn't wanna buy it and haul it around w/ me the rest of the day. When I went back in Nov, I was hoping that they would still be on sale and they were! The shoes were around $27 and w/ the 40% off + the AP discount, the shoes were basically half off! I was so excited and I didn't see the signs by the shoes when I went on Sun, so good thing I got it when I did.

Thanks for the info!

Last time we were there, some of the Nemo items were discounted in the little shop in the Buzz Lightyear exit.

Good info to know. I am hoping there are no cute new gingerbread things to tempt me this year. I got plenty last year. But, as I said, you put Mickey on a food item and then make a magnet out of it, I am a lost cause! The one thing I did not get last year was the set of spoons or spreaders or something, and not only did they have the Mickey and Minnie gingerbread theme, but also had, I think, Pluto and Goofy in gingerbread form too. But I don't really use spreaders, so I didn't get it. Actually, I never thought to look in the Market House. I bet they occasionally sell Mickey-on-fake food knick knacks like the ones I like!

Very true indeed!
In fact, when I went two years ago in... I wanna say January(?), my sister and I went to WoD and saw.... 50% OFF on all Select Holiday Merchandise! They had Santa hats with Goofy/Mickey ears that twinkled when u pressed a button, a Tigger Santa hat (I got one for, I think, 10 dollars? :scared1: ), and red mickey mouse gloves with faux white trimming/bells for a nice little price too (can't remember the exact number, but DS got 'em :)).

Hopefully history will repeat itself this year 'round too!

Sherry - your magnets sound so cute do you happen to have a pic?

Let's see if I can post photos..I am currently working with a bad cell phone camera so forgive me for the bad quality and color of the pictures, but just to give you an idea of what these magnets look like (I think I must have gotten them at the Gag Factory 8 years ago, and they stopped selling them in 2001)...

Here are the Mickey ice cream bar magnet (notice it has a bite taken out of the top), the Mickey lollipop magnet and the Mickey chocolate covered pretzel with sprinkles on the top - you can't really see from these bad pictures that the sprinkles on the pretzel are colored, but they are!

And here are the gingerbread Mickey and Minnie magnets I got in December 2007, also at the Gag Factory, complete with their own cookie sheet!!!

When I first stumbled upon them in the Gag Factory back in 2000, I snatched them up right away. On that same trip, I went into the Emporium and saw the ice cream bar but not the other two (this is because, I suspect, the Emporium is more commonly visited and so more people see the items and buy them, but the Gag Factory is the hdden treasure of DL because it is waaaaaay in the back and a lot of folks don't go want to go all the way back to ToonTown, so they have a lot of things in stock that the stores on Main Street have sold out of!!! Especially the kind of whimsical stuff like these magnets!). I was glad I bought all three at the Gag Factory, and IF I recall correctly, the CM who sold them to me told me that at one time there had been one more to the 'set'. I cannot recall if it was a Mickey waffle or a Mickey cookie or a Mickey bread thingy, but I think there had been four of them initially. I never saw the fourth one. So I told my friend about tham and she wanted the magnets too. I called DelivEARS and they had sold out of all of them but the ice cream bar. I ordered that for my friend, and then I called WDW merchandise and they still had the pretzel in stock, but not the lollipop. So I ordered the pretzel for my friend, gave up on getting the lollipop for her, and I never saw these magnets again, not even on eBay - and I did look. Every so often, I will try to find some of the really cool watches I got in the '90s, or the cool PVC attraction magnets that DLR used to sell, or the old attraction scupltures, as well as other cool stuff, and most of it has vanished. But you never know - one day, these things will show up on eBay.

Last year in December, I saw the gingerbread cookie magnets and went nuts. Again, the Gag Factory had them, but the China Closet and Emporium had run out of them.

So that is my tip to everyone: buy stuff in the Gag Factory, because, more than likely, they have more in stock than what you see in the other shops!!!
