Dh was in Orlando & ran into someone that gave him a card with info in it. The person claimed he could save us a lot on theme park tickets. I have not called yet but thought I would put the question out there..... I thought Disney tickets are Disney and for the most part, unless military.... People can not get discounts? Is that true?

I am assuming this person is talking about the non disney parks when referring to 50% or more savings right?

Sounds like a scam artist or someone looking to have you sit in on a timeshare presentation. There are legitimate ticket resellers that can save some money for multiday tickets, but generally not 50%.

~This sounds like a scam! Run. :( :goodvibes

You'd be doing a great service if you found out what/who it is and let the DISboards know so others can avoid it.

Not discounts that big. I bought this year's hoppers from a Disney authorized/legit retailer (Undercover Tourist), and I only saved about $20 on a $400-something ticket.

you could also buy tickets that were completely used.

since you can't tell by looking at the tickets.

one place along us192 was advertisng for tickets - the sign even say - does not matter if the tickets is completely used.:rolleyes1

I have worked for several legitimate ticket resellers, and I can tell you that the only way to legitimately get that high a discount would be if you are signing up for a timeshare presentation. Most of the legitimate resellers won't even discount a one day ticket (or even two day most times) and the discount on the multi day tickets will run in the maybe 5-10% range at best.

Anyone offering a 50% discount without a timeshare tour is at the very least going to be selling partially used tickets, which is illegal, or at worst, selling you completely used tickets that are worthless to everyone. If it sounds too good to be true, it most definitely is.

~Thanks for the update, OP! Well, if the guy sells timeshares, those tickets need to be free! Those timeshare meetings are pure torture and 50% would not cut it. Have fun! :goodvibes

DH & I made the mistake of doing one about 15 yrs ago. It began to feel like we were being held hostage. :rotfl: I'm only halfway teasing, seriously, we told the guy no, we ddnt want to buy. After he argued for a while, he left to get hs manager who pushed even harder, then we got someone who joined him. They got really snitty about the tickets but we finally got them. It was supposed to be 90 minutes but was much more than that. I hate hard sell approaches, but I guess they were trained that people give in. It makes me less likely. I finally told them I would have considered it later if they hadn't pushed so hard, but they convinced me otherwise. I wouldn't buy under any circumstances.

I will say we bought DVC points 4 yrs ago. I was nervous about going to the
presentation, but our guide was very low pressure. He was really great.

I heard some people stand after 90 min and demand their tickets, not sure how often this actually works. I think problem with timeshares not the lenght of time you spend there but when it is scheduled, many report a completely wasted day.

~I don't blame them, I can't stand the high pressure sales tactics used by some of these timeshare companies. It's just not worth it. :( :goodvibes

~DH & I were in Las Vegas, we were visiting a casino and I started playing the slot machine. Well, my machine was on *fire*, even all the senior citizens were jealous, that's how much I was winning! All of a sudden, this woman in a suit, holding a clipboard came over and said she needed to speak with me after I was finished. I thought she worked for the casino and was going to comp me or something.

~Anyway, as soon as this woman left, my slot machine stopped winning & I started losing! That should have been a sign, turns out she worked for a timeshare company, and promised me a free dinner and show. I told her upfront, I didn't want a timeshare. She responded with, "nobody does but everybody loves a Vegas dinner and show." I fell for it and had to put twenty dollars down and have a valid credit card, I got it back after the presentation.

~Long story, made short, when it was all said and done, we were there for over 2 hours and went through three different sales people. The first one was very nice, but the final two were just awful, they were "hard" sellers, it was just unbelievable. But there were many people who signed on the dotted line. I don't think I could ever commit to a timeshare, but if I were to, it would only be a Disney timeshare. Seriously, the Grand Floridian DVC is calling out to me! That's a tough one to resist. Anyway, thanks for sharing your wonderful experience with Disney DVC. :goodvibes

Be very careful. I was once behind a family trying to get into AK. None of their tickets would work and the dad just kept arguing with the CM, when told they'd have to go to guest services. The CM asked them if the tickets had been used previously. The dad finally said that he'd bought them off ebay, but he knew they were good, because the seller had good feedback.:rolleyes1 When the CM told him park tickets were not transferable, the guy said well he didn't know that, he'd better not have gotten scammed, and if he had, what was Disney going to do about it. He'd paid alot of money in good faith and it wasn't his fault and he sure couldn't afford to buy more tickets.:rolleyes1

I've also seen little stores down there that offer to buy used park tickets, even if they are used up.

At Guest Relations when we get people who have been scammed with ticket resales we do care about them. However, we will give them the tickets back and suggest they go back to where they bought them and get a refund. We will them offer to sell them the tickets that they need on the spot.

We are not permitted to give complimentary tickets under this circumstance and the managers are not permitted to override this policy as it is very firm.
