Has anyone ever booked a room only with an AP? Im really weighing up my options as we MIGHT return for DD birthday in February. Im not sure though if the room only AP discount would work out cheaper than staying offsite or even be cheaper to buy a standard packaging with the 25% off?

We're going as a couple and have just booked a one person package for my boyfriend. I myself will be buying a dreampas and paying tourist taxes at arrival so I can sleep in his room too. Room only was waaaay more expensive for us. We payed 660 euros for the package which had a 30% of offer (2 nights and 3 days admission for Newport Bay Club, standard room), including booking cost and insurance, and will be paying 149 for my dreampas at ce multiavantages website. Room only would've cost us 980 for the room only (AP discount already off!) + 300 euros for 2 annual passes so the other way it worked out a lot cheaper.
I was a bit afraid of the whole paying tourist taxes and booking a room for one person at first, yet someone at this forum advised to me and apparently there's a lot of people who do it this way.

Best thing to do is to call reservations line, ask for the room only prices and then compare room only + anual pas for everyone/package for one + AP for the rest of your family/just a package for everyone.
The second option turned out 50 euros more expensive for us, but we're going twice this year so taking that in account + the discounts we'll have on souvenirs and restaurants, I think in the end it'll work out cheaper. :goodvibes

i haven't booked room only with Disney with an AP discount since 2008, because nowadays the room only prices even with ap discount are usually more expensive than a package for one adult. so i either book offsite with our APs, or book one adult (and any free kids) onto a discounted DLP package, and add the other party members at check-in.

in february though you will probably be able to book room only onsite through expedia for a much more reasonable price than through Disney ie around £50 per room per night typically for the Santa Fe or Cheyenne hotels.

There will be 5 of us then , although 2 will be under 3 and the other 7. So we wont get free child for eldest and I think we might exceed the max occupancy?

no you'll be fine for the maximum occupancy, as you are allowed 4 guests plus an infant in one room onsite.

kids under 12 are usually free in the onsite hotels from January-March each year.
