discount on additional dvc rooms?

I thought I heard somewhere, maybe on this board that DVC members get a discount on rooms when paying cash-if we have to get an extra room for a relative and don't want to use pts.

Or, if we want to use cash instead of pts at that particular time?

Does anyone know of such a discount?

It's a 25% discount, subject to availability. I believe it has to come out of the cash room inventory, not the points room inventory so that is why it is limited. At 60 days, points rooms can be released for cash, so you may have better luck then. You can sometimes get a better discount with AP or Code Rates. If you use the 25% member discount, housekeeping is subject to DVC rules (i.e. trash & towel on day 4...), where an AP or Code reservation would include daily housekeeping.

The member also has to be registered in the extra room for the member discount.

Does the discount only apply to an extra room when you have a room booked with pts or can you pay cash for the member room as well?

Do you know if you have to book through DVC and pay cash or do you call CRO and give them some special code or something. We don't have much info on DVC yet re: this because we haven't closed yet.

I'm just planning/thinking ahead.

Just decided to do something for spring break. Don't feel like borrowing pts the first year but will go if we can get any kind of discount and we will use our first 250 pts to stay at VB in October!!

The DVC 25% members discount is available only thru MS. (If you find a better rate thru CRO- MS has been known to match the other rate too).

The DVC discounted rooms come from member inventory- not the CRO inventory- and usually are only available when MS is reasonably certain the rooms won't be needed for point reservations. This is usually at about 6 months, but could occur at 7-10 months out at slow times (late August- early Sept for onsite DVC resorts and Dec-Jan at HH).

If there are rooms still open within 60 days, the discount will also likely be available- especially if there are other discounts which would apply to those dates.

The member is supposed to be staying in the room using the discount- you cannot make a discounted reservation for a guest (unless they are staying with the member in the same villa).

You do not have to have a point reservation in addition to the cash ressie in order to get the discount. At this time, there are few dates when the discount is likely to be available, but it can't hurt to ask.

Again, also check for AP or Code Discounts they can be higher than 25%. According to Mousesavers, the AP rate for an OKW 1 bedroom for December Value Season is $196, rack rate is $335, so that's more than a 40% savings plus full housekeeping. Book those through CRO. You could even book some nights on cash and some on points and have MS link the reservations so that you don't have to change rooms.
