Hi guys!

So my boyfriend and I got invited to a destination wedding in Key West...:cool1: but also :crazy2: since I just looked and flights are $450 roundtrip. We could either leave from Newark, NJ, Philly, Atlantic City, or Baltimore airport. I heard somewhere that there are no actual direct flights to Key West...so no matter which airline you take, you are going to have a stop in between.

Does anyone have any advice on how to find a cheaper flight down? We still need to pay for hotel AND wedding gift, so any cost cutting on the flights would be so helpful....

TIA!! :thumbsup2

Have you considered flying into Miami and renting a car there?

Unfortunately Key West has a small airport, so you're going to pay a premium for flights.

We drive down to Fort Myers and take the Key West Express from there. Maybe price out flying to RSW and taking the ferry? Last week the Key West Express was running a Groupon, but you have to travel by Nov. 20.

Flights to Key West are almost always expensive, it's a small airport with limited airlines flying into and out of it. You might compare what it would cost to fly into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and rent a car and drive to Key West to what it costs to fly directly into Key West. It would take a little longer to get there, but the drive through the Keys is beautiful.

I agree. Driving in FL is a pleasure. Even better if you get a convertible.:cloud9:
I would check all the airports south of Orlando unless you're on a really tight schedule.

Thank you for all your suggestions! I thought of renting a car but assumed it would equal out to the same price anyway (flights to miami/ft lauderdale seem to stick around the $300-350 range). But as you guys stated...driving down might be a nice ride anyway.

Thank you! :)

Good luck! I don't know whether you've been before, but Key West is my favorite part of Florida. Sometimes it even beats out Disney! ;)

Also Baltimore to Fort Lauderdale $191 on Air Tran.

By the way I use Kayak dot com and put in to check for nearby airports if cheaper.

We flew from Tampa to KW last year for a wedding and found out a few shocking things. Tampa and Miami seem to be the big hubs for KW in the state, we always check flying out of Orlando, and the flights for Orlando took you to Atlanta, and then back down to KW.

The KW express is a boat ride that's very fast, but it leaves early in Ft. Lauderdale. It meant we would have had to book a hotel for the night rather than driving from Tampa super early to catch the boat. The flight from Tampa was around an hour, but the boat ride was 3 hours.

We chose not to drive, mainly because we didn't want to have a car on the island, but it's also a 7 hour drive from Tampa. It really depends on the time you've got to give for this sort of thing, obviously. We also priced it out, and it was only $20 more to fly than gas to drive.

I just looked at flight prices for a day next month from TPA to KW, and it's $250, which is way more than we spent. SO, my advice might be bull.

I live in Key West and work takes me to Baltimore often. I have used Delta and Southwest and have gotten good prices with them. Southwest will have random sales that you can sign up for notifications and they will let you know the sales dates. Also if you download the mobile app Southwest has "ding" fares only good for mobile users. You set the flights that interest you and they "ding" you when a sale for that route is available.

Love Key West! Here's a tip regarding Key West flights-if the weather is crummy on Key West,it's very possible you'll be rerouted to Miami and then BUSSED there.Happened to us on our 20th anniversary. We thought we'd go out of our minds on that bus.Got there late, and Key West airport was shut down.Dumped us at about eleven at night.Thankfully, some residents called for cabs, and told them to bring several. What a cluster****.
