Is there somewhere to find some of these for Good Neighbor properties?

In a sudden change of events, we are now driving from Springfield, OR to Disneyland. This will be a straight shot with stops for quick food and rest areas. We will be on the road straight down I-5 for approx. 14 hours. Driving instead of flying will save $1000 (that we can buy extra goodies and good food with ) and we will have one extra FULL day to have in the parks instead of a just a couple evening hours extra. We will need a room for just one extra night and I trying, like everyone, to get the best possible price on the best we can afford. I doubt we can swing an on site propery as we will be there from November 25-30, Thanksgiving so things are more pricey anyway.

I really want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the help I have received from this board. I stumbled upon it and feel about it all and give you all for your great knowledge!!!

Since it's over Thanksgiving, you probably won't be able to get the Entertainment Book discount at HoJo's, but they have a discount for Dis members, I do believe. Check out the HoJo Anaheim thread on this forum. (and if you have an AP they have a discount that's better)

I've noticed Carousel and some other hotels listed in the Entertainment Book. Other than that, there's AAA.

I do not envy you that drive! We did it (plus extra from Tacoma) in September and I tell you, I am DONE with that drive. Too stinkin' scary! And so much longer than expected from the Bay Area to Anaheim. We were anticipating 5+ hours (because that is what EVERY last one of our friends and family who have done the drive said) and for some unknown reason it took almost 12. We checked into PPH at 7pm, when we left Santa Cruz at around 7am. Stopped for bathrooms and lunch, and other than the horrible snarl of traffic in Santa whatchamacallit (we took 101 b/c all of our friends said it was the same distance but prettier htan 5) and going through Los Angeles, there was really no good reason for it to have taken that long.

Hope you have better driving/traffic karma than I do!

Not much help with Hotels but wanted to say Good Luck on your Drive. We are going on Wed. from Medford area & decided against driving. Bumershot we are from Santa Cruz (born & raised till we moved to Oregon) & my In-Laws are doing that drive SC to Disney on Wed. to meet us at Disneyland, Not sure if they are taking I-5 or 101.

The good thing about 101 is getting to stop for split pea soup at Andersen's. I love that place and love that soup!

We drove back north towards Santa Cruz on 5 and hated that drive, too. (my dad has lived in the area since I was 4, that's why we were visiting there)

Oh that split pea soup is the only thing I remember about drive! I realllly dislike pea soup...except from there.

Entertainment is supposed to give a 50% discount off of rack OR Best available rate. That rate is supposed to be 10% lower than whatever the rate is at that time. It depends on the time of the year as to which rate you will get. If you do not want to buy your local Entertainment Book, you can go online and subscribe to the book for $9.99 a month for the discounts. Buy it the month you are making your ressies and print any other coupons they may have in your area and don't resubscribe

For the best rates, I would call and book your rooms ASAP. I've found the further away I book, the better rates I get. And that's going to be a really busy time of year! Good luck with that loooooong drive! I don't envy you one little bit!

Hey ;-) We're in Eugene and we've made the drive 3 times to Disneyland. We leave about 4 pm and get there when the gates open-- we are never too tired to go right in ;-) We were supposed to be in Disneyland right now-- today would've been our last day there but husband got laid off so we can't go for another year now. He got another job in a few weeks that even pays a little more money but doesn't get a 2 week vacation until Jan. next year. After massive hours spent in front of the computer at this point I think we are going with the Motel 6 on Disney Way. It was a Red Roof Inn up till last year and has bigger rooms than normal Motel 6's, a pool/jacuzzi and a fridge/microwave in the room. Since we are going during spring break--(a busy time like Thanksgiving) I think this will be our best deal. I guess you can walk (Varying reports of 10-15 minutes) but it's also right on the Art line. Hey for $53 a night it can't be beat. We don't have small children- it's just my husband and I and our then 18 year old son. I'm not completely sure yet but at this point this is looking very good.

Oh yeah-- wanted to add we were just in Santa Cruz last summer-- during the heat wave ya all had here last year (great luck) and it was lovely. Really enjoyed the boardwalk and the downtown area. Beautiful restored theater there. We just sort of planned a few days there between Hearst Castle and wine country but ended up wishing we had more time in Santa Cruz.

oh man bumbershoot that totally sux...whats amazing to me is that I actually live 5 hours from DL...I live in the middle of CA and I go up to the bay area all the time...it takes about 2 hours to get to the bay area from here and if I was driving to DL from there it would take about 8 hours on a good day...so I have no idea how they got there in 5 hours unless they were literally driving with A. no traffic AT ALL...or B.they were driving 90+miles and even though 12 hours is a little steep, I can understand it better because you took the 101 instead of the 5...both of those fwys are

wanted to say we drove from Oak Harbor WA last year and it really wasn't that bad {DH refuses to fly}...but we went with a then 15 months old and this year are going only with the 2 older kids {15 and 7} and plan on doing to drive again...so good luck ....we are gonna go to Portland first and then from there drive the rest of the way down...

I ended up booking 5 nights at Desert Inn for $109/night. To us having a little bit of a shorter walk to come back at night was important. We are guessing we will be closing the park down

50sjayne..... we plan to leave early morning of Nov 25 and get there late evening/night and just getting some rest for the night and up and off first thing in the morning. About how long does it take for you to drive down and with how many stops?

I am still not leaving Desert Inn out of the equation, it just depends on what their rates are during spring break next year ;-) Having a jacuzzi in the room might prove too much of a temptation for me lol. It takes us 14-15 hours driving at night. We like to drive at night, less traffic and we can take turns sleeping, the kids always just slept the whole night- less boring on I5, plus we pay for one less night of hotel. Last time I drove it- it was actually just my daughter and I and I did it in 14 and a half hours even through noon L.A. traffic. We didn't go to Disneyland that time-- our mission was to see Bowie at The Honda Center- (at the time it was Arrowhead Pond) in fact only way husband let us go was if we did not go to Disneyland lol. It was painful seeing the matterhorn coming in rah.
Not everyone can do this though, I did stop off around Compton I think and slept for about a half hour at a rest stop. We also have a very comfortable car that gets great gas mileage for this trip. On the way back we will stop in Sacramento for the night and visit with husband's Uncle. Going driving all night is fun-- coming back is not, plus you have the siskiyous at the end and not the beginning. Be sure and write a review for the Desert Inn when you get back and take some pictures if you can ;-)
