Please be patient with me this is my very first post.

I'm so excited to see this board. I have a lot to learn as to how to navigate this site so I hope I can even find this thread again.

We're planning a trip for Dec. 1 - 8th 2009. My son's b-day is the 4th.

1. Do I book the room first, then hope for a "code"?

2. Where do I find these codes? Some are 40% off?

3. Do they apply to all rooms?

4. Why do some people get the codes and others don't?

5. Do you get them via mail or email? And who gives them?

Please help.

Hi Jenny and welcome to the Disboards. I will share with you what I do to find discounts and answer your questions.

1) You can go ahead and book a room or package, so that you at least have that because that is a popular time to visit and may sell out as soon as a code comes out. I usually book with a AAA discount and when a better code comes out, I change it if it is better.

2) The codes will be posted here almost as soon as they come out. They will also be listed on Mousesaver.com and Allearsnet.com. I usually hang out here for them.

3) No, they do not apply to all rooms, but there may be rooms in all categories that it does apply to, many room categories sell out very fast. Usually what is discounted is just some left over inventory they want to move fast. I have been lucky enough to call several times and get what category I want. Sometimes when someone cancels a discounted room, it will go back it the discount pot and can be snatched up by the next lucky person, that is how I got a great deal at AKL for or recent Dec trip.

4) No one knows why some people get codes and others don't, we haven't figured that one out yet, but as I say if you stick around here often, you are bound to get some kind of code or discount.

5) Some get them via snail mail and some by e-mail, other have to wait until they are released into a category that fits your plan, ie AP holders FL Resident Discounts, Disney Visa holders, and General Public. Last year my best discounts were AP holder discounts and were almost always $10 per night less than any other released codes. I am also a member of AAA and sometimes their discount is the best or only one avail at the time.
