Hey all!

Fabric sale is over. I am in the middle of the post-sale anxety attack and DISing to calm down.

I'm one of the people on another thread that said they didn't like character or custom clothing. It's just not my style. :confused3 I will say I have seen some BEAUTIFUL customs on Ebay but they go for $250++++ but still not my style.

Just because I don't like something doesn't mean I'm judging another mom for putting her kid in it. Just like if I don't like apples and you do it doesn't mean I'm judging you for your decision to eat apples. :headache:

I do like made to match bows that I buy for our Gymboree clothing! That's the closest I come to customs. :goodvibes

And I do look at this thread because if there is something that catches my eye maybe I will get it. Well if someone will sell me one because I can't sew to save my life!!!!

Oh, in that case, :thumbsup2

Aww...that boy is so cute! :lovestruc
I told Tessa that Luke scored his first soccer goal. She started clapping and saying YAY! Then, she said "I'm so proud of him." I asked her if she'd tell him that when she meets him and she said "No, I'd just be shy."

He is, he calls me sweetie pie sometimes too :rotfl: If Luke met Tessa, he would definitely be shy! He gets shy when he sees her pictures! But that's a good thing, right?

I finally finished DD9 's (almost 10) birthday outfit. We used Carla's simply sweet pattern. I had to adjust it to her size since the pattern only went up to a size 8. I hope that didnt mean people over 8 won't like to wear it. I think its just a cute pattern for everyone. I would like to say that Carla's pattern was simply amazing!!!! It was 118 pages of glorious info and really good tips. I followed right along lickety split! Great directions!!!:thumbsup2

Ok so here are the final pics. Then I have to wrap it up and give it to her. I told her to act surprised!

The fabric was just devine! I got it online on sale. :yay: Here is the link to the sale if you are interested. I ordered the ZaZa squares set and sewed them together to make the skirt part of the top! ;) http://reprodepot.stores.yahoo.net/zazacollection.html

I love seeing things for bigger girls! My 10 year old (almost 25!) would wear that. Isn't it great to sew with wonderful fabric? The best part is that the more you wash it the softer and better it looks. You just don't get those results when you use a lower quality fabric. I know we all have to sometimes, but the things I love the most are always the things I make with quilt shop fabric.

OK les filles, I know you can help me with this. I bought a bunch of ribbon today with my DD to make all kinds of hair bows on barrettes. But Michaels didn't have any barrettes except the giant metal ones for adults.

Where can I buy small plastic barrettes with teeth, and if I'm not asking too much - holes to sew the ribbon bows onto it? I looked at walmart but they don't have any either! The only craft store chain we have here is Michaels. I could go to the US to look over there, but I'd have to wait for the weekend, and I want to do it NOW!!

DD has never had a haircut (she just turned 4) and has fine slippery hair just like her Maman. So we need small barrettes with some sort of grips on them. Merci beaucoup les filles, et bonne nuit.

I got one more outfit finished this weekend, and I even tackled applique with the last of my princess fabric.

the applique's are nothing special, but I am just glad to have successfully completed one thanks to the GREAT tutorial posetd here:worship: :worship: Thank you to the op on that one!!!!!!!! It really helped a newbie.

found it- Ill try to describe it and see if that helps
How to tie a proper bow (with fully lined ties)
Facing dress, take each tie in opposite hand- left tie in right hand, etc
cross the left tie over the right tie
wrap it under right tie and pull up and to the right gently, but firmly
take right tie (that is now on the left) and form "bent bunny ear"
take left tie (dangling over on right side) and pull down and to left- to wrap around bunny ear, as you come up behind bunny ear pull thru hole and to to the right-adjust and tighten.
So the right tie ends up at the left side of bow and left tie becomes right side of bow.
Got that?

So I went a little fabric crazy this week and I just thought I'd share what I got.

I'm so excited! I got the Minnie fabric from Hancock's today! They have like a whole bolt of it, I got 3 yards. It was 30% off. :cool1:
001.jpg

I'm going to make a nemo stripwork jumper I think for our trip. $3.49/yard + 30% off!

Animal Kingdom prints

I can't remember off the top of my head the name of the person I'm casing this from but I am making the peasant dress with the pink fabric and then a simply sweet dress over it with the princess and eyelet straps.
004.jpg

101 Dalmations stripwork jumper. I might change out the red for a light pink and do an applique of the all white girl puppy instead. Still thinking about it.
006-1.jpg

I'm also in the process right now of making a ruffled top and pants with the pooh toile. I'll probably finish that this week. I'll post pics when I'm done with it.

I love all your fabric. It makes me want to go shopping! It's a good thing Hancock Fabric is far from me. I don't need anymore fabric@!:lmao:

It's beautiful! I love it and it looks like DD loves it too! What a good idea to buy a bunch of precut squares!
Oh dear! That was rude of me not to mention Scrappy. Well, as you can see he is perfectly fine:

IMG_0414.jpg

Apparently Megan left him a lovey in case he gets hungry during the night. Do your doxies sleep under their bed cushions instead of on top of it? I think he is wishing I would get off the computer and go to bed so he could snuggle under the bed covers where he belongs rather than that dog bed!
My Doxie likes to sleep under the covers too!
1) Yes, the dog bed is just a temporary stop until the real burrowing can begin!
2) I'm not sure if she did that on purpose but I'll let you know when we were driving back my son said, I sure did miss Scrappy and darling Megan said, I didn't miss him a bit! :lmao:
3) Scrappy too! I know you are not supposed to give them rawhide but I give him those little twisty sticks because it is the only thing that keeps him entertained for more than 30 seconds! He loves them and takes them out of my hand so daintily.

Congratulations on the minnie dot! You might find your pm box mighty popular now. I love the doggie fabric, it will make such a cute stripwork skirt, pink or red!

Oh, I did make something today. Snuggle prints were $2 at JoAnns today and I found flamingos! Megan likes her little rest mat and Scrappy thinks it's comfy too. Look Teresa, I didn't even make up my bed today!

IMG_0417.jpg

That is a cute little rest mat! I think my Sophie would like that too. She loves the rawhide sticks too and sometimes I give her the miniature rawhide bones.
I loved your pictures from Disney too. Are you going to do a trip report?:surfweb:

Too cute!!! Great job on the applique! Im thinking of taking it on too. and i love the cut of the white shirt she has on- very sweet. I love to see girls in sweet stuff- Im shocked at the cut of clothes in the stores- even Disney Stores. The skirt looks so fun!

Edited to add...I think Im gonna go with this pattern for my multi-colored Pooh toile (posted earlier today) Has anyone tried this? Im too tired now to trace pattern- so tomorrow, right after I drive Kayla to the vet and drop her off for Heartworm treatment...

Doxie pics- so cute!! Reminds me of a standard Doxie that used to come to my agility class- he was hysterical to watch- he hated my dog and would run off course to bite her feet. Upsetting to my dog while I laughed so hard I almost peed!

Oh, I am glad you clarified this for me. I looked for the thread where mom's were being flamed for boutique/ character clothing and I could not find it. I thought, "Why would a mom be flamed for chosing to dress her kids in boutique/ character clothing?" That's what I was referring to when I said, "I have always found that the people who feel the need to judge other people's decisions are typically the people who are least secure about their own decisions."
This post was what got my wheels turning...

It seems they feel very strongly about it. I have never considered that before.

I may have been annoying people without even knowing it

I saw the thread this morning. In 3 pages of posts, 1 person said she didn't like customs. She said didn't like character clothing at all, and customs weren't her style. The post was quite polite and non-confrontational. No judging involved.

Deb

Okay, that makes me feel better!

WOW! I will reply to this since it was my post that you said "got your wheels turning". As you can see by my post that you copied and pasted-I said nothing about ANYONE being "flamed". I had never considered people did not like boutique clothes. I have no idea how it got to the point of "flaming" and "judging" parenting skills.
I have to say I feel I am being "blamed" for someone twisting what I said. So I think I am going back to sewing and keeping my mouth shut on this board.

Sure but I'm still trying to perfect it. Sugarbees got me started and I was just trying to CASE her--so if you're out there--chip in! When I cut the legs out I just add about 1"-1 1/2" to the top--just figure how "tall" you want your ruffle and double it. Then when you press your casing down, fold it down the regular amount it says to (:confused3 ) plus half of what you added. So if it says to fold over 1 1/4" and you added 1 1/2" to the top of your pants, then fold it over 2" then stitch the bottom edge of your casing, leaving the opening for your elastic, then go around with another row of stitching about 1" from the first row(assuming you are using 3/4" elastic which I usually do), but you don't need to leave an opening on the "top" row of stitching. Then put in your elastic and close the bottom seam and that is it. Did that make sense? I have kid drama going on around me and now Lily is trying to help me type. :scared: I'm glad I just typed that out :thumbsup2 I keep forgetting what I did and have to figure it out every time.

:goodvibes Aww thank you so much for explaining this to me. I am gonna to try this on the next pair of pants I make my DD. THANK YOU.

(ohh and I love it when the little ones try to help with the typing...hahaha, mine does it all the time too)

Got that?

I'm confused. How is this different from tieing a regular bow? What am I missing? I know it's probably really obvious

I haven't posted to this thread in AGES!!! but I wanted to share my two newest creations...

the first is the purse from YCMT... it was SOOOO easy! I love how it came out!

I was taught when tieing a bow on a dress... you tie it "upside down" compared to tieing your shoes. (Instead of tieing and wraping clockwise, you tie and wrap counter clockwise) And when you make the first knot it needs to lay parallel to the floor... A bow will hang the way the 1st know is tied.

Now go ahead. Tie a bow as you would tie your shoe then tie one moving the ties the opposite way. I'm not sure why by my 4-H leader was right when I was 9!

As a matter of fact, I just started one! The link is in my sig (shameless plug).

I have a throw on the couch and Scrappy loves to burrow under it. They are such sweeties!

That is so cute! I think it will look great with the Pooh toile.

We used to have a mini that lived next door to us and he would dig into our yard all the time. One time our big clumsy mutt came running through the house with this doxie (named Samson, no less) attached at the ear! It was so funny! Our dog was a little afraid of him, they can be mean when they want to be!

Oh my word!!!!! My mother owned a bridal shop for many many years and had not accumulated 1/2 of that (what I wouldn't give for 5 minutes in your fabric room)

Dude, you live near me? PM, and sure.

I made much moolah this weekend, adn am drining to stave off the rest of the anxiety attack.....Much moolah is helping....and still relatively full shelves...:rolleyes1

ADORABLE! LOVE the corset top - you did a great job!

OK, that makes sense. Now to see if I'll actually remember...

I seriously wished I lived near you! Glad you're getting over the anxiety of the loss.
