I have ordered many adorable custom made dresses off ebay/etsy and I think I should wash them first because I guess the dyes used in them (some are blues and pinks) gives off a strong odor.

And also I am afraid if caught in the rain, would the colors run?

How do you suggest washing your customs that you make?

Since there is an odor - I'm assuming the seller didn't prewash their fabric.

I doubt it would run in the rain, but you never know. I've gotten an outfit with red and white fabric wet, and the red ran into the white. (I was able to get the red out with Tide to go though)

I wash in cold water and lay flat to dry (when I remember, most times things get thrown in the dryer and are fine!) If you are worried about the color running in the wash use a SHOUT color grabber. If you iron the set, use a pressing cloth. I've singed to many things by not using one! HTH.
