The DIsboards have signed a purchase contract for a NEW server for the boards. This will replace our current web server and should speed things up CONSIDERABLY!

Old Server- Dual Xeon 3.06 533 FSB with 3 gigs of ram and 2 18 gig SCSI drives (no raid)

New Server- 2 Dual Core 5160 Intel 3.0 Xeon's with a 1333 FSB, 4 Gigs of Ram and 2 36 SAS drives (raid 1) running 64 Bit Red Hat Linux ES

But what color are the extra horses? And will they get along with the old ones?

I can't say anything about the color of the extra horses (I know my staff would suggest something like this http://www.xpcgear.com/lqccflspiralgr.html) but how the new and the old horses get along is always an issue. To avoid problems the old horses are usually sent to a new home via eBay.

OK, nice upgrade. Personally I would have gone with a SAN array on the disk allowing you to add as you needed and provide better RAID, and if you are going to spend the bucks on a pair of dual cores, why not go for the 8 GB of RAM and then virtualize the servers to make them even faster (and better behaved) but I digress and I am not paying for the boxes. At least you are running a real operating system!

Off to sit in the tub now - this is far more technical than I wanted to get this weekend!
