Is it just me, or is the number of posts down considerably? It seemed that prior posts received dozens of replies, that seems to have dwindled. Perhaps there is a new game in town.

I think a lot of it is holday shopping. People are buying more than last year, even if they have to go into debt. But they are also busy finding the best prices, and that takes time.

Plus, there have been so many changes to the "electronics" sector that a lot of poeple are replacing their TVs and computers, since prices seem to be pretty good right now.

I just had to get a new desktop, not because of the Windows 7 upgrade, but because my old motherboard got fried. :( It took me several days of "shopping" to decide on one. I use computers until they die or become completely obsolete, so I tend to shop around a lot before replacing them, to get a good system.

We added on at AKV just before they announced BLT about 18 months ago. I have been kicking myself ever since. I realy wanted BLT. So last month we decided to list our original AKV 160pts for sale to buy BLT. Our contract sold at $88/pt. After commision and estopel fees we neted $78.76/pt. I bought my long awaited BLT contract 3 days ago for $115/pt. Thats an increase of $36.24. I will not sign the new contract until after the webcast next week, I am hoping to do better. If not I wil still keep the new contract. Like they say, buy where you want to stay. The icing on the cake was not only was it a steep price increase, but now we can't even get a resie there for our upcomming 2/10 trip (we are at VWL). I would have loved to watch the superbowl from TTOTWL.

Congratulations on getting what you really want, and here's some pixie dust for you regarding the Webcast!

PS. One late December time we were able to get a good buy on 50 points VWL resale. It wasn't snatched up right away, so I think Disboards/DVC interest is usually down this time of the year.

Well, this is one of the most popular week for DVC members, especially the ones in the know. So my guess is that they are all enjoying WDW right now.

Yes, I've noticed that as well. It seems to have been down most of this year though. Maybe it's the economy and folks aren't traveling as much, so they don't visit here as much either.

A lot of people who were once regulars here have left for other sites. Some left voluntarily, others were banned.

Actually, total posts on the DIS are up for 2009 over 2008, which was previously our biggest year.

Considering that in 2008 we had a tremendous number of posts discussing the election, 2009 is even more impressive since that topic is no longer allowed. Posts on the DVC Boards are up considerably over 2008.

Thanksgiving thru Christmas posts have always a bit slower just due to the Holidays and then we typically see an increase after the beginning of the year as familes begin to research plans for Disney trips planned during family get-togethers over the Holidays.

There were relatively few posters who lost posting privileges during 2009 as compared to 2008 and registrations have increased greatly again this year. We have had a good number of abuses on the Rent/trade Board in the past few months with many resulting in the loss of access. Some have been rather stubborn by repeatedly and aggressively creating aliases to violate the posting rules tyring to rent the same existing reservations again and again.

The busiest time of the year for posts has usually been in the spring on the DIS.

Here is a link to Big-Boards - a site survey for many internet sites - this one specifically looks at Disney Message boards : (Recreation : Theme parks : Disney (6)) and the DIS is listed (for some reason) as "Disney discussion forums" - http://www.big-boards.com/kw/disney/ Looks like one in that list has even shut down.

This survey lists the DIS as the 28th largest among those on Big-Boards by volume of posts - http://rankings.big-boards.com/?p=2

... and here is a stat link (generated by big-boards own search engine) showing number of posts/members/etc. - Note that this does not show numbers relative to prior years though - http://www.big-boards.com/board/18/

Last week, the DIS added 66,882 posts - http://rankings.big-boards.com/?sort=week&p=3

Big-Boards tracks the most active message boards and forums on the web. They currently have 2337 message boards in their database!

We are reanked by Alexa as the 16,455th largest website on the internet and 4,346th in the US. :) Using Alexa, you can plug in other websites to compare their activity relative to others.

Enjoy!

Ditto here Chuck! I'm waiting for our new desktop to arrive as I type this post on a 10 year old machine (that has never had any upgrades) while viewing it on a 15 year old monitor! And while I haven't lost the motherboard yet, the law of averages were bound to catch up with me sooner rather than later.

As for the volume of posts, I've noticed it ebbs and flows throughout the year. And I think you're right that holiday shopping this year has consumed a lot more of people's time than it did last year.

"THE ONES IN THE KNOW":confused3???????

:confused3me too! Maybe the low points, Christmas taping, and the association meetings factor in to the comment.

I see you were up bright and early on the disboards, as I was! However, I did go back to sleep until now.

Interesting to see the actual numbers and where the DIS ranks. I can speak from my own experience that my posting is definitely down this year. I find that my amount of posting tends to coincide with trips. Last year, we were getting married at Disney in December, and were making a trip down every few weeks, and as a result I was posting every day. This year, we have only been once in November, and I'm loggin in about once a week at most. Why did I log on today? Well thats cause we're going down on Wednesday, and I needed to vent my excitement on the DIS;)

Thanks for those fantastic statistics Doc! Very interesting to see and compare...

Myself, I enjoyed this past weekend in the city of Chicago. No internet time as too busy Christmas shopping and enjoying the fine dining.. At one point I did see the Chicago Whitehall Hotel and thought, hmmmm can't we stay there with DVC points? lolol...
