DISboard pet peeves

When there are threads that dosen't say Spoiler.
Or a post that gives out the punchline in the threads title before you get to see a show-(not everyone is in the same time zone, or doesn't get to watch it during the time that the show airs, so they tape it or TIVO it hoping to watch the show at a later time).

People that post questions regarding their own trip (which has nothing to do with the thread topic) in the middle of someone else's thread.

Besides some of the things already listed, I have one. When a few people turn a serious thread into a conversation of inside jokes and completely ruining the OP thread.

YES. I really dislike when you answer a post asking for advice or help, and they never return or acknowledge your response. It makes these boards seem very impersonal, you know? :sad1:

I know. ::yes::

Well, I think sometimes people are trying to guage the reactions of the majority of people so don't always reply or maybe they just wanted to get a discussion going. OTOH, it really irks me when the OP responds to everyone that posts. Perhaps it's just me, but I don't feel "ownership" of a post just because I started it.

Okay I just have to say this.

I really have a problem when people post something to a thread when they haven't read the whole thing. Especially when they proceed to make a comment or ask a question that has already been asked and answered, and they would know that if they bothered to read it all. Or at least skim through it. It's especially annoying when those people are bashing the OP or the other posters but they have their facts wrong.

Take an extra few seconds and read the whole thing before you post. Okay, I feel better now. Anyone else have any pet peeves when it comes to these boards?

That's one of mine too. I can understand it when the thread gets to 10 or more pages, but by that point, I just skim through and try to pick up the major points.

Another one along the lines of grammar/spelling corrections (and I'm studying to be an English teacher, so you'd think this would be what I'd approve of!), I hate when people will post a dictionary.com definition just to make another poster look stupid. I'm always so impressed, like "Ooh, wow! You have dictionary skills! Girls like guys with skills!" :rolleyes: (sorry for the Napoleon reference -- couldn't resist)

And this might sound really stupid, but I hate peeve threads where it turns out that you're danged if you do and danged if you don't. For example, several people will say that doing X annoys them, and then several people will say that NOT doing X annoys them. Well, excuse me for living! Know what I mean? :rotfl2:

I hate when people are seeking advice but get mad and defensive when not everyone agrees with them.

I purposely don't read responses to many threads before I post, so as to not influence my opinion. But, I don't ask questions unless I've read the thread.

One huge, long paragraph. Makes it harder to read.

I couldn't agree more.

When I see the one huge paragraph I leave the thread and go the next one.

Like someone mentioned before, I can't stand it when people attack a poster just because a question has been asked before. There are a limited amount of questoins to be asked. This is how this forum lasted more than 6 months.

I also hate when someone assumes the role of honorary moderator for the day and tries to regulate what other people post. This is what realy moderators are for. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often on this forum, but I looked at another one a few weeks ago (checking out the competition, so to speak and it was full of this sort of thing). I was just lurking and I was a little offended!

My biggest pet peeve is people who post "questions" that are mainly (or always...) theoretical. Or posting things to discuss that are the same. I can see occasionally thinking of something that a poster wants to discuss that isn't personal to their life, but to do it all the time gets annoying. I try not to respond to the poster who does this and kick myself in the rear when I do respond.

One big paragraph without breaks is another pet peeve because it's hard to read.

I agree with Tinijocaro and sometimes do not read the replies before answering so I will not be influenced in my reply. I then usually read them and sometimes post again with my thoughts after hearing what others think on an issue.

Sometimes I don't have time to read through a bunch of replies. Or in the case of this thread, it doesn't really matter because I'm simply stating what bothers me and it doesn't matter if I'm the first to say it or the 10th, if it's something that bothers me it "belongs" here and it doesn't matter what others have said.

That's pretty much it as far as the big things.

::yes::

..and, unfortunately, it happens a lot.

Wow, you are being hard on some posters. As an example, I posted a response and CAnne posted the exact same time and we both said the exact same thing. So, we do read the whole thread, but it just happens sometimes that people have similar posts.

It is fine to sit back and wait to gauge a reaction, but it is rude to never come back at all and acknowledge other people who responded. I mean, they took time to think about and type out a response, they deserve a 'thank-you', at least. I actually do not mind when an OP responds to every post, especially if they were asking for advice. It helps to feel connected in a human way when people speak directly to you, especially in the impersonal world of bulletin boards.

I don't respond to each post in a thread that I've started, but I do try to respond in the very least in a general way. And if someone has taken time to answer a question of mine I do try to thank them personally. There have been lots of times that I have put a lot of time and thought into a post and I didn't get even a quick general thank you, which I find rude. If it's a thread that takes a life of its own, that's one thing, but there are some obvious times to acknowledge a post.

Well, that's a little different. I meant more of when a person doesn't read or even skim the posts and then posts something that is just not accurate. There is a thread in the trip planning part titled "my letter to a thief".

Read it and you'll see what I mean. There were some posters who had their facts so wrong and they still bashed the OP. That's more of what I meant.

Exactly what I was going to say! I don't get to read the boards as often as I'd like so I don't know all of the frequent visitors and I never get the inside jokes.
