Disappointing Weather Forecast

I’ve been reading these boards for a while and it has been great for planning my family’s first trip to WDW -- we leave tomorrow!! :cool1: BUT – I am seriously bummed because the weather forecast is not looking good. We’re only staying 3 nights. Our plan was to focus on MK since we don’t have very much time and our kids are little (2 DDs – 20 months and 3 ½). Also, the only full day we have is Saturday: Thursday is a “travel day” and DH is at a conference Friday morning (I was going to take the girls around the monorail at this time since we’re staying at the Contemporary and I'm not brave enough to do a park on my own). Unfortunately, Saturday’s forecast looks the worst – Thundershowers!! :sad1: I am so upset because this is the only day we will be able to get to MK at opening and I know we will be traveling during a busy time. I had such plans for this day!

My question is… can we really enjoy ourselves at MK in the rain with such young children? Or, is there a better park to go to when it’s raining (maybe Epcot)? Or… is there something else we can do? :confused3

So sad… granted, we’re coming from the FREEZING Midwest (and so can't complain too much), but we could really use some sunshine!

We enjoy the parks no matter what the weather, although we do prefer those non-rainy days! In the past when we knew it was going to be rainy, we just resigned ourselves to adapting to the weather. Bring your rain ponchos and umbrellas and just go with it. I do think you can have a good time in MK in the rain (or at any of the other parks). There are so many indoor attractions and if there is a break in the weather, you can hit more of the outdoor ones. I wouldn't let the forecast hinder you enjoyment at Disney.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and the weather forecast changed everyday up until we got there so I wouldn't put too much stock in any advance forecasts for Orlando. Even while we were there you could watch 3 different channels THAT DAY and get 3 different weather forecasts. You'll have fun don't worry. Just go with ponchos and the attitude that you won't let the weather dictate your mood.

The only forecast I have ever found that is reliable (and I am a weather JUNKIE!!!) is www.accuweather.com. I think you'll be fine while you're there. It's getting to be the time of year where a shower or tstorm can pop up any time in the afternoon. Just hit the dollar store today and get some rain ponchos and you'll be all set just in case!

Last trip I was very focused on the weather forecast, checking the average temps for specific days, checking multiple sources for forecasts, etc. There is one thing about the weather....it is unpredictable. So, you might just end up with a gorgeous day anyway! Buy some rain ponchos in case and don't focus on the weather if it turns rainy, focus on your wonderful trip-the magic will still be there!

I just had to pop onto accuweather, here's your forecast for Saturday!

:cool1: high: 81 °F RealFeel®: 81 °F
Mostly cloudy and warm; a shower or thunderstorm possible in the afternoon:cool1:

Even if it rains the chances are it will last an hour- maybe 2. Florida is nice like that, very few days are total wash outs. Have rain ponchos (1 for the stroller too) and you will be fine.

Thank you everyone! I'm feeling so much better now... I know I've been a little too obsessive about the weather forecast (it's been a LONG winter in Chicago!). I guess it's time to just sit back and relax... rain or not I'm sure we'll have a great family trip! (I am liking that accueweather.com forecast though - thanks for the tip!)

Can't wait to see DDs expressions when we walk into the Magic Kingdom! :)

looks great! Since your girls are so small Id bring some tiny clothing changes for each of em in a gallon ziplock so if they get wet in a passing shower they wont stay damp all day, be sure to have panties and dry socks as well, wet sox are just icky.
Enjoy your disney days!:flower3: :cheer2: :upsidedow princess:

We were in Orlando last 4th of July week and I think we had thunderstorms every afternoon. The raindrops were like water ballons. The first day, we tried to stay dry and spent 45 minutes under some shelter. At first the kids would run out in the rain and come back as we yelled at them to stop. After awhile, they were having so much fun dancing in the rain, we couldn't tell them to stop. Seeing them enjoy it so much made us think it was quite OK too. So pretty soon we were all soaked and happy. If you ask the kids today what they liked most about our trip, they would tell you that it was playing in the rain.

Don't worry about a little rain. In Florida, it usually is just for a little while. You're staying onsite with a monorail, so you'd be home in a jiffy if you really needed to. Nice thing about a "bad weather" day at MK, is that it keeps a lot of other people away, so you might find less of a crowd than the usual bright, beautiful day. Big crowds would bother me more than weather. Do remember a cover for the stroller though, just in case. If you manage to keep the kids try, it would be a bummer for them to have to sit in a wet stroller.

Enjoy your trip!
