bottom line is avoid room 1526. They never finished cleaning it and it was dirty. This is the grand Floridian? Dump. Thank goodness I don't own here. Plus the tv in the mirror doesn't work. This will be my first and last visit here.

I am quite sure you will get many responses defending VGF. Sorry they didn't clean your room properly but housekeeping problems surface from time to time at every resort.

We stayed at VGF in April. It most certainly wasn't a "dump".

Did you call to get the tv in the mirror fixed? I'm hoping you at least told them on the way out.

I've had one stay there - my way of locating the room without numbers was to look for the little trash (hairs, crumbs etc) that was just outside the front door. Never vacuumed up during the 3 or 4 nights we were there.

Room though was fine so was happy they moved it out of there to the hallway. ;)

I found that to turn on the mirror TV, the remote must be directly in front of the mirror. If it is at even a slight angle, it doesn't work. That being said, I also found it to be a fairly useless gimmick. The channels are different and in a different order than the room TV---and who has the time to figure out which channel is which for a bathroom TV, while on vacation?

Not a Grand Floridian owner, and not my favorite for other reasons, but dump??? So if it was cleaned properly and the TV worked it's not a dump? Maybe just a bit of an over statement.

It's far from a dump. We stayed in February and it was wonderful and luxurious. Loved the decor and mouse keeping was great! I think you had a bad experience and could have talked to the front desk to get them to rectify the problems. They would have gladly done it.

Problems will happen at all of the resorts but I must say that at the GF/VGF the staff and management seem to be more guest friendly and concerned that your stay is as near perfect as possible. I wish that other resorts gave me the same feeling.

The TV behind the mirror is a waste of money and PVB has one in the bungalows.

SORRY to hear about your experience.:sad2: We stayed at VGF in December for two days and the room was immaculate as was all areas of the grounds/resort; loved it! Next time, contact management and hopefully you will get your issue resolved. :goodvibes

It sounds like the OP didn't bother to get the room cleaned either since he is telling us to avoid it. Membership comes with responsibilities please call housekeeping and maintenance to clean and fix items when needed. I am sorry he had this experience someone messed up and marked the room as available for occupancy too early.

It is important that when you notice a defect in the room, you call housekeeping, maintenance, or just the frontdesk. I have had some minor issues in both of the DVC resorts I have stayed in since becoming a member (VGF, my home resort, and VWL). In both cases the response was prompt and repairs were scheduled to fit our plans. This is budgeted in member dues. Ignoring an issue will not hold down dues and may increase costs depending on the nature of the defect (and it will tick off guests that come after you re: OP).

IMHO the mirror TV is both a cool and nearly useless feature. The only time I could see watching it would be when shaving and/or brushing my teeth. I think I could forego watching TV during the time I spend on these activities.

I loved our stay at the VGF, just don't like the high point cost.

The TV in the mirror doesn't make much sense since who is at the sink long enough to use it. Now if it had of been at the end of the tub, that would have been a different matter.

My sister & I stayed in 1526 back in February. While the room was clean, there was already damage to some of the furniture and we had a difficult time with that mirror tv too. We thought that having the power to the plugs by the mirror across from the closet (directly adjacent to the bedroom) connected to the light switch to be a really dumb design. You couldn't plug your phone (or anything else) in there to charge overnight w/o leaving that light on! We notified them of all the issues we had at the time. Sorry, OP, that it doesn't seem to have gotten any better. We enjoyed our stay in spite of the little things wrong.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for there to be a maintenance form for us to fill out during or after our stay. For example, mousekeeping does not have "check if all TVs are working properly" in their job description. When we have had a maintenance issue that needed attention immediately, we have contacted engineering and they have taken care of it by the end of the day, if not sooner. If there is an issue that has not bothered us but could affect the next guests, then we have made it a point to go to the desk and report that issue when we are checking out. For example, we had a utility panel that kept loosening from the top and falling halfway down when we were staying in a 1 bedroom Boardwalk view at BWV. We continued to push it back in so it did not bother us. However, I was concerned that the panel would come lose and seriously hurt a toddler staying in the villa in the future. There is no way that mousekeeping would notice this issue. The person at the desk was very concerned and very appreciative that I told her about the issue. She was on the phone to maintenance before I had the chance to leave the desk.
If all members reported these issues, then we would hear fewer complaints about "dumps" by people who simply complain but never report any issues themselves.

I've been having a difficult time reasoning why I was underwhelmed by my stay at VGF this week. We had a corner studio closest to the monorail, but it wasn't running, so I cannot comment on noise. But most of my disappointment is centered on the bathroom. It was way to large for what was in it; a huge waste of space. The TV in the mirror didn't work, but I put that in a category with a phone in the bathroom; useful only for stockbrokers who need to watch the market move while they're ... shaving. The tile around the tube was sloppy, and the fixtures were leaving rust trails across it. And there was no shelf for shampoo or soap that I could find. But the curved shower curtain; how do you screw that up?!? It's supposed to give you more room in the shower, but it was mounted so far back that you actually had less space. So, tons of wide open, useless space, and less usable space than there should be. I don't think I'll be trying for a studio here any time soon.

We own at BLT and VGF, and VGF are by far our favorite! Love the grounds and the pools and the Lobby in the main building is amazing! Love everything about it!! The studio was beautifully done and clean.
