Disappointed with the direction DCL is heading.

It will start with the Wagyu beef replacing an existing beef item next will be some other "special" fish dish that will replace something else and pretty soon you have a Palo restaurant that charges for everything on the menu.

The Wagyu beef isn't replacing anything. it's optional. I guess there is a lot of speculation that they will remove all beef from the menu and if you want beef you will have to buy the wagyu. But that has not happened, it's just speculation.

Are they actually charging more for certain menu items?:confused3
They now have a pairing menu (not sure if you can order the items sans wine), a wagyu beef entree that costs more. Other than that, no. I just feel it is enough. That is me. Don't offer me something at Remy prices without the Remy experience... Again, my opinion only.

.
Exactly!

My DH enjoys the beef offered at Palo and I usually get something else, often lamb, but last time I had the ravioli. We are very happy Palo diners! The fact that they offer options with a charge does not disappoint or anger us at all.

The only thing that is a little disappointing to me now that we have had some time to think about it is that DCL is going from a line that looks for the long term repeat cruiser (platinum level) like myself and many on this board to a line that would like to have repeat cruisers that would do 4-6 cruises total. They aren't looking for lifetime cruisers like other lines do. Once I was ok with that, we have really enjoyed the search to look at some other lines to cruise on in upcoming years. We will still look at DCL, but would only do it for a specialty cruise moving forward or a last minute deal.

This thread is making me feel like our April Dream cruise will be our first and last cruise. :sad1:

I wouldnt worry. Things change, and DCL has gotten more popular, so DCL has changed. Prices are up, and some previous amenities are gone, for various reasons. For new cruisers, I really don't think they will realize, and I am sure you will have a wonderful time. But for DCL veterans, it's hard not to dwell on "the good old days", but we just completed our 6th DCL cruise 2weeks ago, and it was fantastic, just like the first five.

Then don't read the thread.:confused3

I wasn't complaining....:confused3

We've just never done a cruise before, and a lot of the threads make it seem like it's not worth the money. That's a bad feeling to have, not feeling like you've gotten your money's worth.

Plus, I'm not just going to read the sunshine and unicorn posts before hopping on a giant ship in the middle of the ocean for the first time. I want to read about all of the aspects I can.

I personally feel that DCL cruises are worth the money and you will have a great time. The only thing that I have come to realize is that DCL is not going to be our forever cruise line at the curent prices, and I think that is what many of us are saying and realizing. I have never gotten off the ship and had buyers remorse.

That's good to hear!! :)

It is expensive though, no doubt!!

Made my final payment today and was like "bye, bye monies...."

This is the same thing I realize. We had an absolutely amazing time on our cruise this summer and have two more booked. However, I am willingly choosing to pay for Disney magic when my daughter really appreciates it. When that wears off, we will explore other options.

For us, right now, it's worth it. But it wouldn't be wise to ignore that other options if the primary amenity, Disney itself, loses its appeal.

I think it's worth it. I guess it depends on how much you would spend on a similar vacation. We spend that much or more if do an amusement park vacation. If we just spend a weekend somewhere, the cost of hotel, food and entertainment is usually the same or more than the cost of a weekend cruise. When we go camping, we spend a lot less, but that isn't comparable to someone else cleaning up after us, cooking and serving us food and giving us 24 hour entertainment.

Yeah, I think it's just the fear of the unknown.

We do Disney every year, and spend about what we are paying for this trip. We have 2 nights at AOA, 4 nights on the Dream, and 2 nights at the Grand Floridian. We will have 4 days in the parks. But, I will admit to having had many moments of wanting to cancel the cruise and do just Disney like normal, because it's what we know. But DH wants different, thus the cruise this year. :)

Why be normal? :sail:A lot of park enthusiasts discover that cruising is even more fun than the parks.

We finished our 4th DCL cruise in October with the plans that it would be our last because of pricing and because we have teenagers. Well, low and behold we are waiting with baited breath for the summer 2017 cruises to be released so we can book another one. We've given up eating out and other things to make sure we keep cruising. I always complain about the prices but I keep booking!

We are so in this camp! We definitely would rather do DCL over DL and especially WDW. We still do DL a couple times a year because of proximity to AZ but if there was a DCL ship on the west coast, holy crap I can't imagine how many cruises we'd go on in a year.

I'm still a DCL cheerleader, and will continue to be. I'm happy paying a premium for what I consider a better product. However, we find ourselves open to sailing other lines more and more these days simply due to price. When in the mood to spend the money, I will sail DCL. But when in the mood to sail for a bargain, I put aside the thoughts of a better experience (for me...not saying that is everyone's thought process) and enjoy what I do end up booking.

I am truly hoping we love it!! It will be a great way to take our family on new adventures!

OP; great way to look at your cruise as "A New Adventure". Hopefully you'll have a wonderful cruise. Since 2001, we've completed 15 cruise with DCL, on all 4 ships, & have never been disappointed. We've also had good cruises on RCCL, Celebrity & HAL. But it just seems that Disney is the best fit for our family, even when we cruise w/o our 2DDs. Bottom line i'd take most of the stuff on this thread, Good or Bad, with a grain of salt. Happy Sailing....... Cheers :drinking:
