Tonight was our community tree lighting ceremony and the arrival of Santa Claus. DS (6) was so excited! Santa was making his way toward the crowd on the back of a truck and DS's eyes were twinkling with excitement and his face was bubbling with joy and then it happened..........an older child in the crowd in two seconds wipes away all of DS's joy by announcing that that isn't Santa Claus it really is Mr. Smith. DH and I were so, so sad for DS, his bubble was burst. I don't know why kids have to be so mean, why don't parents explain to their older children that it isn't polite to spoil it for the others. DS was questioning us about Santa and we asked him one thing, do you believe? He said yes and we told him that is all that matters, because if you don't believe than Santa won't be able to come to your house and we told him we still believe, it is part of the magic.

. We tell our DS and DD that Santa has many helpers and that you very rarely ever get to see the real one because he's just so busy. Of course DS (9) came to me last month and we had "the talk" about Santa. It was time, unfortunately, since all of his friends were making fun of him for believing. He took it better than I did! He also told me that he still believes that Santa exists in all of us in spirit form and that's how Santa stays alive so long. He knows that it is now his responsibility to help keep the magic alive for other children. They grow up so fast...
