A little background here,

The other day I was at the grocery store with my four kids. I was leaving (pushing the cart), all the kids wanted to walk. My 3 year old was trailing behind a bit (he wants to do things "self!") The automatic doors closed on him!!! I guess he was too light to trigger the door. Of course I let go of the cart to rescue my son. As I was struggling to free him of this "trap", the cart proceeded to cross the lot. So the 7 year old goes to catch it! I yell "STOP! Leave the cart. Don't cross the street! (Too late, she already had - safely:rolleyes: ) I finally get my 3 year old out, cross the street with the others and make it safely back to the car. Whew...

Anyway, my gripe about this was during the whole event, boy scouts were sitting at a sign up table just inside the store. Watching everything. 2 scouts and 1 adult male. None of them came to help pry my son out, asked if everything was okay...
They just sat there staring...

 Yup, not cool. My Eagle Scout husband would have been very disapointed in them as well. That is not what they are taught.

Now back to your story - Holy Harry!!!! Oh My God! I would have croaked on the spot. You must have some Captain Motherhood spunk in you to survive that ordeal. It probably seems not so bad to you now, but on paper - OH MAN!! I am so glad everyone was OK.

I will be teaching my Girl Scouts to help others!!! Geez! That is what they are for and the leader should have led by example!

My babysitters daughter (7) earned some award from the girl scouts for going (into the road!) to save a little girl. Of course going into the road was not okay, but her first thought was for the little 3 year old!

Thank goodness everything was okay in the end! You must be grey this evening!

 Thanks castlegazer & KristaTX!
I wish I had said something to the leader...I gave him a dirty look:mad: if that counts! But then again,...I was busy calming down my little one.

I'm sure it was an isolated incident, I don't want to bash ALL scouts - just these ones;) Actually, more the "leader" adult that was there. I'm glad I'm not alone thinking this was a bit...disappointing...:(

That is men for you:rolleyes: (I've found in general when it comes to kids, they usually hold back in helping out) I of course would have been super woman flying to your rescue. I hate apathy!

My son's troop would basically sit and play Gameboy in a time of crisis.

Gosh, that is horrible that they would not help you. Especially the grown man. What is wrong with people? I can sympathize with the horror of having your baby caught in that door, too. This past Saturday we were at our bowling center on base and my 2 yo DD got her arm caught in the automatic door. I was standing right beside her when it happened. I looked away for just an instant and she tripped the sensor and stuck her arm in between the doors. These doors are made to where there are three doors that open in one direction one behind the other. She got her arm stuck between two of the doors to the point to where the automatic doors would not budge. Luckily we had some very nice people help us because it took my husband and at least two other men to push backwards on the door enough for us to get her arm out. Thankfully she came out of it with nothing more than a bruise on her arm.

I'm so sick of them trying to sell me something every time I leave the grocery store anyway! What are they doing just sitting there begging for people to basically donate money to them?...... I never mind buying the stuff from my neighbors' kids when they come around - I feel like they have to work for it a bit. But to having people shouting "m'am...Ma'am....MA'AM!!!! at me when I just want to get to my car(they might not have reacted to your poor child, but they sure notice me every time!).....sorry, doesn't make me feel like buying popcorn (or cookies).

Not all people have the inter strength to react to an immediate situation. Other people move at a moments notice. It's just human nature. Not saying its right, that's just the way it is.:D

I agree, and the same goes for the Girl Scouts with their cookies.

That is pretty rediculous to say the least... I always teach my kids to help people, I mean like opening doors for people and things of that nature, I wonder if people tell their kids not to help people for fear something will happen to them, but that's NO excuse for the adult!! I know I have told my kids NOT to help people when they are not with me because i'm afraid it might be a scam.... remember "Silence Of The Lambs"..... anyway... your situation is totally different and I know I would have been running to help!!!
