Disappointed in Ohana

We finally got to try Ohana - after reading about it for a year and looking forward to it since my first thread....I was very disappointed...the service was extremely rushed - they had the bread and salad, and appetizers on the table before our drinks, the noodles and broccoli came before we even took our first bites of salad, and then the meats came in rapid succession...it seemed to me that they were trying to rush us through to get more people in...the food was decent don't get me wrong, but it was my least favorite of the whole trip...the meats were good but fairly dry...however the dessert WAS to die for I must say - I loved it...but really I just don't get the hype....

Yachtsman, however....I can't believe I don't hear much about it on the boards - it was phenomenal!!!

I agree with everything you said!!! However, do try Ohana's for breakfast. It is a completely different experience (not to mention the characters) and it is our favorite breakfast!!! We LOVE Yachtsman too.....SOOOO GOOD. It is a definite must do for our upcoming trip in May!!! Thanks for the review by the way!

Thanks for sharing. I have been reading good and bad reports of Ohana, we never been there and really wanted to try but I would hate a bad meal or bad experience. That's what happened to Coral reef...read alot of good reviews and a few bad ones but it was one of our worst meals in Disney.

I have booked this for our upcoming trip in Nov hope we don't feel rushed-- I hate after a long day at the park--or any where for that matter. but better to be prepared for it right?!

The thing to do is, you control how things are done, don't let the server delegate how fast or slow your service is. They want their tip so if you tell them slow down a little they will. Their train of thought is the more tables the more tips but if you show that you are unhappy they will cater to you. More tables doesn't mean a thing if there is no green left on it.

I use to love Ohana it was a must do, partly b/c I just love the Poly but last Sept we also felt so rushed and the meat was all so dry! Now I still love the concept, I would LOVE to go back but I also think next time I will tell the server to pls slow it down, not to the point Im having to hunt her/him down ( that just makes me mad) tho. I couldnt get it for our trip this Sept but i have an ADR for Kona which I have been wanting to try.. As long as I can eat at the Poly our first night Im ok ;0)

I actually like it when they bring the food to you quickly. I hate it when I have finished my app. and sit there waiting around forever for them to bring out the main dish. I have realized that just because they bring you the food quickly, doesnt' mean that you have to get out of there any faster. You can still sit and enjoy your time. You just don't have to sit around waiting for them to bring you stuff. To each his own.

I agree with timing your own meal. When we go to 'Ohana we generally like to eat slowly. You need to tell your servers not to bring something until you ask for it or until you are completly finished with what is already on your table. We like to do a 6:30 or 7:00 dinner. By the time we finish we walk down to the beach and wait for the Electric Light Parade to pass and then watch Wishes.

Some people do like to have their meal served quicker - because maybe they go there while taking a short break from the MK and then want to get back to the park for all the night time activities.

We have eaten at 'Ohana many times and our food has never been dried out and they have the best dessert on property (even off property).

Ohana was the best dinner we had last year. We did not feel rushed while we were there. They did bring the food out quickly, but they weren't rushing us. The food was absolutely the best we had during the whole trip.

We will be eating there again this September, I can't wait.

That is too bad, that would have ruined it for me as well. We had excellent laid back service in May. Our server brought our dessert during the fireworks, and it could have not been timed any better. We did have a later seating though at 8:30.

I agree. I hate it when they turn a 1 hour meal into a 2 & 1/2 hour production! Keep it moving!!

'Ohana is our #1 favorite venue at WDW. We talk (dream) about it all year long. This trip we are having dinner there twice and may sneak in a third dinner if time allows. My family thinks the food is amazing and we love the all-you-can eat style...my 2 teen boys actually get full!!

Oh boy, now my mouth is watering...39 more days!

Now I have the exact opposite reaction. We were not impressed with 'Ohana for breakfast, but loved dinner. The food was great, and we didn't feel rushed at all. In fact, the meat took a little longer to come to our table than I think we would have liked, but we did see our waitress a lot, and kept us up to date on the meat ("I'll bring it over soon", etc.).

We are looking forward to trying 'Ohana for the first time this Oct. DS has a peanut allergy. Will we be okay eating here or would you change places? TIA

I am almost positive that one of the dipping sauces that is brought to the table is a thai peanut sauce.

I have never had to experience this but one of the sauces they bring to the table is a peanut sauce. Definately check with your server and tell him about this. We have been there when the chef has come out to see what the person could and could not eat and would make the menu according to this.

I am sure there are other on these boards that will come on and give you some answers to the allergy question.

Kona was amazing - one of the best meals of the trip - ask for Peter as your server - he is amazing!!!

We are eating at Ohana's for the very first time in October. I can't wait. I take with a grain of salt what I read here, because peoples expectaions differ and so does service, depending on who you get. Also, every place of business can't be perfect. There will be mis-haps.

If the food is brought out too quickly, we'll just eat it when we get to it. You are only rushed if you let yourself feel that way.

I'd rather have the food brought out too quickly than too slowly.

Enjoy!

We have 3 young kids, so we liked the fact that they continuously brought out food, no one got bored waiting. never felt rushed, they figured out quickly dh wanted the shrimp and they would come back around every 5 minutes or so asking if he wanted more, never seemed like they were trying to get us out. it is one of our favorites! :goodvibes

Call Disney Dinning and let them know of the allergies. When you are seated at the restaurant, the chef will come out and ask about the allergies. They will let you know what they are serving that has peanuts, and what does not. They will cater to your needs. Disney is Awesome for catering to those families with allergies. They will also provide extra food to accomodate what may of been taken out. I would keep it, and you may get to try some stuff the general public may not be able to eat. :)
