Ok..first of all, most of you probably know by now that I've never been to WDW. Well, anyway, I have an aunt who lives in FL, and I was talking to her the other night about WDW, thinking that maybe she'd help me if I ever got the $$(am working on that..;) ) to go. Well, she simply told me that Disney was boring and that I was wasting my time if I went becuase there arent many thrill rides and nothing really to do...and that she would rather do Universal and IOA. I was a bit bummed... so I impressed her with my DIsney knowledge(thanks, DIS.. ;) ) She also.. and I know how UNTRUE this is...said that the MK..was ALL there was to WDW...and that the other 3 parks just had a little disney in them ...and I told her she was wrong..that the WHOLE thing..parks, resorts,DTD,etc...was WDW..not just the MK. She said..the HM isnt even scary... and I told her this: My DH can't ride stuff like TOT and BTMRR,SM, RnRC.. in short fast thrill type stuff ... but he DOES like family rides like the HM, POTC, Peter Pan, and other stuff like that...and he LOVES shows....so I think DIsney would be a perfect vacation for us. Anyway, I felt like I needed to talk about it and I knew my friends here at the DIS would certainly understand!

P.S. If this deosn't belong here..feel free to move it.. :)

You gotta do what you want to do. WDW is amazing. Nothing like it on the planet (well, unless you count the other Disney parks...).

I would suggest not taking your aunt, though. I've been with a party pooper and it makes the entire vacation sour. Just my opinion.

Totally agree!! You'll love it :thumbsup2

Some people who live unintentionally close to the magic don't appreciate it for what it is - ok, I can understand that it can make rush hour traffic twice as busy, but for most of the area, it's a major tourist pull, enabling many thousands of people to live, work and enjoy the extra business WDW provides!

Don't let your Aunt get you down...keep on saving and it won't be long and you'll get to enjoy the Disney magic first hand ! :grouphug:

Forget the aunt. You'll have a wonderful time! :goodvibes

Your aunt has probably just seen it all too many times.

I couldn't contemplate going without WDW. They are MUCH better than Universal, although granted, IOA provide more thrill rides than WDW. But the theming at Disney more than makes up for it, and you just don't have the same magical experience at Universal!!

I think that when it comes to Disney there are those of us who get it and there are those that don't. And, for the most part, we will never be able to change the minds of those who don't.

My DH feels that any time one travels south of the Mason-Dixon line, one needs to visit the Magic Kingdom. His mother, however, was in the Magic Kingdom once in 1974 and would never go back because she "has already been there". To each his own, but if I were you, I would quit talking to your aunt about any travel plans you have, she seems like a real downer. :furious:

Go without her and enjoy yourself. :)

A friend of mine took her mom who incessantly complains about everything...she had a lousy trip because she had to listen to gripes the whole time. "Lines, money, food....etc..."

I'm sure this has been discussed several times, but if you are not a "Disney Person," you just don't get it. DH an I have been going every year (up until 4 years ago when DTwins were born. There's always something new and fun to do and see...people just don't take the time to appreciate it.

Have a Magical Time! :)

My thoughts exactly!!!!

But look at it this way, don't you think that there are way too many people who enjoy this board and others like it, to be part of a conspiracy theory?!?!?!

Your aunt is someone I actually feel sorry for. They are not open to the magic of WDW, and it may not be on purpose. But, like BankBunny said, some just don't get it and all we can do is shake our heads and keep on planning our Disney trips!!!

Keep making your plans to go. You won't regret it. You will have a magical time! :thumbsup2 :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Universal etc... has more thrill roller coaster type rides. Just chalk it up to she likes to live on the edge while your family enjoys the storyline. I think thrill rides at universal and coasters etc... are good but they are what they are. A ride...no more and no less. Disney is an experience and if you lack a vivid imagination you probably wont enjoy it.

I'm surprised your Aunt hasn't been commited.;)

Go have fun.

Unfortunately, your Aunt doesn't know what she is missing. If all you are into is thrill rides, then go ahead and go to Universal. WDW is a whole other world that you can escape to.

It is disappointing to have to try to explain to other people who are "downers" about WDW. I usually just shut up when that happens. It is amazing how many people ask me why I want to go all the time, or my new one is, "only you and your husband are going to WDW....what is there for you to do?" Are you kidding me??? :rotfl:

That's ok....it just makes more room for me to go! :cool1:

Thanks for making me feel better about this...but I have to defend my aunt in saying she is a wonderful person, but I think its just that she "lives too close to all the magic" and loves a good thrill ride..I do too.. but I also love what Disney is all about. I looked at some pics of different stuff there and have the planning videos..and it just seems all so wonderful. So yes, I am saving all the money I can "catching the pixie dust" to one day get there.. :)

I personally like WDW and Universal about equally and there's way more to Universal than just thrill rides. But there won't be any tiresome and pointless debate about that from me. To each their own I say. :)

Why not check out both and draw your own conclusions? You could spend time with your aunt and go to Universal and go to WDW on your own.
