We were passing by Orlando and stopped at DTD for lunch. I was super excited about BabyCakes, my DD has a peanut allergy. We go to WDW several times a year and I thought we finally have a place we can get cupcakes at while on vacation! I read online their allergy info on their website. Looked OK, said they can't say they're nut free cause the FDA now classifies coconut as a nut, but my DD eats coconut with no issues. And their site says something about their flour is made on shared equipment with hazelnut, almond and soy, but is power washed and first 30 pounds discarded. So I felt good about buying from here. But, when I went to talk to girl there she basically told me it wasn't safe for my daughter and goodbye. It was that blunt. I was shocked. I've been listening to podcasts raving about this place and I walked away with my mouth open. My DD was extremely sad. I literally would buy dozens each trip! Has anyone else had this same experience?!?
(On a side note, I found it also interesting that BabyCakes is inside Pollo Campero and they looked at me like I had a third eye when I asked if they cooked in peanut oil. You would think they'd be a little educated about food allergies since an allergy free bakery is inside their building!)
