Disappointed After Returning From Afghanistan

After returning from Afghanistan I was extremely disappointed to find that my family due to not being registered at the Disney Resort was not allowed to ride anymore rides after 9pm when the park was still open for 2 more hours. We talked to the management but they were uncooperative towards letting us ride even one more ride. I reminded them that it is not written anywhere that we could not ride rides while the park was open but they insisted it was a perk for resort guest after hours. I told them this was biased towards anyone who did not stay at a Disney Resort including all Florida residents of which I am one. A Florida resident does not buy get a hotel room when we live right here. Furthermore any guest from out of state that does not stay at the Disney resort cannot ride a ride after 9pm. Now when you get to the park it takes at least an entire day to try and see everything and in the summer time with lines being very long even the fast pass cannot get you thru all the lines for rides. My kids were disappointed and so was I. I was looking toward a funfilled day but it ended with us being disappointed in Disney when others just because they were Disney resort guest were still having fun. I must return to Afghanistan for anther 3 months prior to returning home again for 11 days but I will in the future go to a park that treats military members right with discounts etc. which Disney does not do.

Ski7, thank you for serving our country.

Did this happen at Disneyland in Cal. or Walt Disney World in FL. ?

In California, everyone has to leave the park at the same time. I hope your next visit to a Disney park is better.

We pray that you return safely following your next tour.

I also just return from Afstan but was only there two weeks. I work for a private contractor.

Big thanks for serving our country.

That instance is another reason we do not go to Florida.

Be safe,

This belongs in the Disney World section and not the Disneyland section so I'm moving it. BTW, that's how EMH at WDW works. Doesn't matter who you are, if you're not staying on site, then you don't get to participate.

FYI- He has posted this same complaint over the past few days on other sections of the board...

Ski, I have a huge amount of respect for you and even more so for your family. I'll never understand the sacrafices you've made and will always be grateful for your duty and service. With that being said though, I think your overall "behavior" on this topic is almost laughable.

You made this comment...

And responded on one of your other threads with this comment...
So if you get to the park in the afternoon such as I did and buy your ticket from a vendor and not the gate...
Even as a local... you should have known that showing up in the afternoon during the height of travel season would result in a huge disapointment.

From someone who has ties to the military and loved ones serving, I've never once, heard someone demand "more" because of their service to a country. Thats quite a show of character.

Enjoy the other parks...

1) Sorry, but HE went to serve our country.
2) YOU went there for the bucks.
3) That is a big difference.
4) You were there on a well-paid business trip - he was there to fight.

5) I think you could have been able to get around the resort-stay issue.
6) I would have asked for the Guest Services Manager, an explained the issue.
7) Now, that was the Duty Manager, not just a mid-level "manager".

NOTE: Thanks for serving. Being IN-COUNTRY is always tough.

Thanks for serving our country. I'm sorry you were disappointed. However, I believe Disney does treat military members very well. They have a resort where only military members can stay which is a lot cheaper than the other resorts. Furthermore, I know several people who got free admission to Disney World because they were in the military.

Gosh, I completely forgot to add in my reply (to the duplicate post he already
made that I responded to) that he could have stayed Shades of Green.

However....I don't know if Shades of Green participates in Extra Magic Hours,
but it really is a great perk for those who are active in the military, retired
from service or Dept of Defense employees. The resort fees are based on
your rank. Higher ranks pay more than lower ranks.

It would be interesting to see if anyone familiar with Shades of Green could
chime in with an opinion about his disappointment.

Again, for what it's worth...I don't think he missed much during evening
Extra Magic Hours. The morning Extra Magic Hours seem to be better, IMHO.

i am sorry you feel this way, but it does specifically state that only guests staying at WDW resorts may take advantage of riding the rides during the Extra Magic Hours. It is a perk for staying on property for your vacation.

I completely agree. Disney is running a business; in order to entice guests to stay at their resorts, they are going to offer them perks and benefits that the average park guest is not entitled to. Those guests who paid to stay on site at a Disney resort essentially paid for the privilege of the Extra Magic Hours. There is certainly no reason to act like a petulant child over the fact that you were not allowed to participate in the EMH. Besides - the parks mostly likely opened at 9 a.m., which should have been adequate time to enjoy many of the major attractions and rides, even during the busy season. Closing at 9 p.m., that's a twelve hour day! Missing out on two hours is nothing to gripe about. :sad2:

ski7, my DB returned from Afghanistan a few months ago. Before that he was in Iraq. I know the difficulties it takes adjusting and the need to hold on to your family and make every moment special. We are all grateful for the sacrifice it takes to do what you do. But we are wondering, as a Florida resident, why you would be upset that WDW gives perks to entice those of us who travel great distances to stay on property? For Disney, its about the bottom line. But for those of us who spend thousands to make these trips, its an extra bit of special moments added to our vacation. Most businesses offer discounts and benefits to active duty military, but it sounds like you didn't enquire into those benefits. I'm also wondering, since most people lurk here a while before posting, if you visit the Dis, then you have to know about EMH. Your post just doesn't make sense to me :confused3

I would first like to say thank you for serving in our country and if you ever do go back to disney i recommend staying at Shades of Green. At shades of green yoou get many perk such as EMH also it military owned and the proces are alot cheaper than other disney resorts i would also like to recommend to disney which i will mention on our trip next week that EMH should be open to all military for serving our country thank you i knoe that a annoying part when we book our hotel we felt forced to dtay on site for the EMH so we are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge
