Has anyone here who uses an ECV regularly done the Savor the Savannah Tour? The tour description just says "must transfer to wheelchair". I assume they supply the wheelchair. Did you still feel a part of the tour? My main concern is that I usually travel solo, so I wouldn't have a "pusher". Did anyone notice if the wheelchairs that are supplied have the big, self-propelling-style wheels or if they just have the small. "transport"-type wheels? Those can't be self-propelled (turned by the wheelchair user). Of course, it would be ideal if the Tour comes with a wheelchair-pusher! If no one knows, perhaps I was thinking that maybe the next time I'm at AK, I'll go to the check-in desk and ask. If it sounds doable, I'll sign up for the next tour I'll be there for.

I’ve done the tour, but not with someone who used ECV. I can tell you that we were in the truck for most of the tour. The only transfer situation I can remember is getting out of the tour truck and going up to the area where we ate dinner on the savanna. There are guides, so I would think they could/would push you. It’s a lot of fun! Hope you’ll be able to go.

Same as PP. I can't specifically answer other to say I can't think of a reason that you wouldn't be a part of things except for one - there is not a lot of food despite it being a "savor" tour. The food is on a small high top table so that may be a potential issue.

ETA: personally we were not impressed by the tour and thought we had better visualization of the animal from the regular safari. We would not recommend it or do it again. I know others love it, but this was our experience.

One of the biggest variables is seeing the animals. They seem to have a “dinner bell” and, depending on time of your tour, they might get called in which will greatly limit what you see, especially during dinner on the savanna. We saw lots of animals on the tour, but only a few during dinner.

Also, should mention that I requested food with no onions (and no pork) and received several dishes myself (not put on the buffet). Thus, DH and I probably had more options for food than most. As eksmama01 indicates, it’s not a lavish, full dinner at all. More like a “small bites” dinner. We really enjoyed it, but probably won’t repeat it.

If I were going, I would contact Special Events and Tours and ask them all of your questions. If nothing else, you want to make sure that you will have a chair waiting to transfer to, and hopefully an appropriate-height table.

I couldn't find the number for the Special Events office, but I *did* find one for Tours & Recreation (407) 939-1929 and I would start there.

If you go, I hope you will come back and post your experience as well! I'm especially curious about what they would do if you can't sit/stand at the taller tables.
