Hello All

Well the new year has begun and its always a great time to start the diet after all the Christmas celebrating.

So come along and join in on a weekly basis and let us know how you are doing.

Are you joining a slimmimg club, or just cutting down? Any ideas for sticking to a diet? Any good low fat/low cal reciepes to share? Any good exercise tips?

Join in and lets give each other some encouragement every week.

I started Slimming World 4 weeks ago due to being quite over weight but also having high glucose levels. I was initally put on a low carb diet about 12 weeks ago, lost a little weight and then for some reason my blood pressure went sky high, so my doctor suggested Slimming World, and in 4 weeks I have lost 1 stone and 1lb.:banana::banana:

I have been gob smacked each week esp as I have been through Christmas and New Year, and I have eaten well and Im never hungry but I am following the plan to the letter and not having all the syns that I can have every day, just to give me a good start as I was feeling so unwell.

I will pop in on this thread after every class (wednesday) and let you know how things are going, good or bad!

So come on and join in, you will be very welcome:goodvibes

Congratulations on the weight loss so far.
I really needs to shift the weight as I'm my biggest ever and suffering with sore knees & back ache. Dh is going to join me in trying to shift the excess & get fit. We're not starting properly until next week as I'm ill with a chest infection & he's coming down with ?

Will join in though it will be extra support.

Hi there,

I was wondering if I could join in? Not from the UK, but I saw your post whilst scrolling along and the topic suits me very well right now!

I am visiting Disneyland, for the first time with my kids in October this year. I would like to shake at least 8kg before I go, as I know all too well holidays in the US result in weight gain :rotfl:

I am a gym member but had a rough year last year, so it was a real yo-yo thing, with on going chest infections, so I am hoping this year is my year to get back on track and rid myself of all I put on last year so my Disney pics can be kinder for me to look at :thumbsup2

Welcome aboard Sharon, look forward to seeing how we all do, and its great if we can give each other some tips and advice as well. Good luck to you and your hubby, and I hope that chest infection heals up soon:hug:

You're very welcome to join in Meemoo, what's your name if you don't mind me asking. How fantastic that you have a trip to Disneyland booked, what an incentive to drop a few kgs. Im a real yo-yo dieter and had to admit defeat this year with the gym, I joined, used it half a dozen times, and had to admit its not for me, I much prefer my walking.:goodvibes

Thank you for the warm welcome :goodvibes My name is Sarah. The gym is actually the easy part for me, I enjoy going and get up very early to do so, talking 5.30am early! I often say if I didn't eat half the junk I eat I would be so slim :rotfl: But I do love my food so this is my compromise! Better to work out and eat lots then not work out and eat lots :rotfl2: I look forward to checking in with you all and see how you are doing. I'd like to make some progress in say a months time. Wish me luck :)

Want to join too!. My name is Bev I'm originally from Lancashire but have been in Canada for a long time. We are going to WDW in March and it would be nice to shed a little before I go. On WW but I need a little more support because I'm not able to get to meetings at the moment.

Welcome Sarah:) I wish I liked the gym, I have tried and tried but just cant get into it. Like you I love my food esp savory items, but starting Slimming World and food optimising seems to be working. Good Luck:)

Welcome Bev, the more the merrier, I bet you are looking forward to WDW in March, and you have a good few weeks yet to lose a little before your fab holiday. Let us know how you get on with WW, and look forward to you checking in weekly:goodvibes

Hi Sue,

I'm in! I'm a WeightWatcher, have been for ages, but I lost my mojo over the Christmas period. My weigh in is Wednesday too, and I'm expecting about an 8lb gain. But I shall put that behind me and start afresh.

We are off to NY for a week in March and I'd love to lose a stone by then. Long term, we are off to Orlando in late September/October and shall be going to the MNSSHP - I've already got my costume, and it is currently at least two sizes too small - I love a challenge.

Gym is a regular feature of my life, I go three times a week and swim once a week. I do about 30 mins of cardio and 'lift' in various ways, about 4,500 kilos each session. My goal is to continue along these lines, adding more time on cardio and lifting a little more weight - I don't want to build muscles, just sleek them down a bit.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's successes and failures. We are only human after all.

Pam

Thanks for setting this up Sue, fingers crossed it will help us all stay on track and get the results we would like.

I used to live on a childrens residential centre with meals provided 3 times a day and my weight rocketed! I left there in 2011 and began to loose the weight using slimming world, shifting 2st4lb but 13lb crept back on last year (had a very rough year and just didn't want to worry about what I was eating) I did start to be good again the 4 weeks before Christmas and managed to shift 7lb then I was bad over Christmas, I ate chocolate, cake, crisps and anything else that happened to be here and I've been lazy and sat and done my Cross Stitch and watched films! I dreaded standing on the scales on Monday but was totally shocked to find that I hadn't put a single lb on! Don't ask me how I managed it but I'm not complaining!

My initial aim is to lose 11lb from my current weight and see how I look and feel. I will then decided if I want/need to try and lose some more. I have a beautiful pair of Disney dungarees that I want to look good in!

I think if most people are weighing on a Wednesday then I will do that too. We can all be winners together then :)

Thanks Sue. What is food optimising?

With Slimming World its all about options, and using them to your advantage and optimising certain categories, for example, you have loads of free foods, you can eat these all day if you desire, you then have to pick from a list of foods in the healthy option A which contains amongst other things milk and cheese, and then 1 from healthy option B which contains amongst other things cereal and cearal bars etc. but only 1 from each so you cant have milk and cheese for example for free, one of them has to be a syn if you want both! Then you have your syns, which you are allowed anything between 5-15 per day.

I am sure I have made it sound really confusing now but it is really easy to follow & having the books help lol.:thumbsup2

Hi Pam, Welcome onboard, what better incentive that a couple of holidays to get your mojo back again:)
Well done on the gym, thats great going so often, Im with you on the swimming, I love to swim, but walking is my favourite form of exercise.
To be honest, I would love to go to Zumba, but I just cant seem to fit in a class around work and looking after my mum at the moment, and I also dont want to go alone, but Im sure I will go one day. Good Luck Pam, looking forward to your updates:)

Hi Hon
No problem, its a big part of my life right now, so you brought up the idea at the perfect time, and its great that so many others want to join in as well. Good Luck and look forward to your updates:)

I think I had better join in too. After getting to target 6 years ago I'm now the heaviest I've ever been :(.

I've had the online WW app for over a year now - it's about time I starting using it!

Hi Libby, welcome to the club! Did you use WW to get to your target originally? The apps are great, I would be lost without my app as I use it to check the syn values when Im out shopping. Good luck, look forward to your updates:thumbsup2

2015 has a lot to make up for after 2014 and it starts with feeling better about myself!

I wish everyone lots of luck and look forward to reading your updates and us all helping each other along the way.

The one thing I've invested in and found really useful in my weight loss so far is a soup maker. It's one that also makes fruit drinks, I swear by it!

I've just got a soup maker from morrisons, a friend recommended one a few years but there were quite expensive. Mine was £39 reduced from £59. I think it will be a great help once I get started.

HI there,

Great to see so many people have joined in with this group, we are all motivated for the new year! Speaking of motivation, I just ordered me some new runners, and gym gear. I need some inspiration, right?! :rotfl:

I use to do spin cycle/rpm classes, and these classes are great they keep my weight off and I use to think I could eat anything if I did a few of these classes a week. But right now I can't do them unfortunately. I have chosen to stay away from intense exercise, as it kept re-triggering my chest infections last year. So its all about the treadmill and Pump classes for me. I have an appointment with my gym on the weekend, they measure and weigh you, you do a fitness test on a bike, the compare your results to your last results if you have any (I am going to ask them to not tell me this time - wait for the follow up!! I'd rather know how much I lost than gained!) then they will make me a program on how to achieve my desired results. Last time I did this, I had just returned to the gym after having my 2 kids, my son was about 3, and I lost about 14kg! (I think it converts to around 7lbs??) So yes, I have the new clothes, shoes and hopefully the gym can motivate me enough to stay away from the naughty treats that I love :rotfl:

Yes it was with WW, I lost 82lbs and felt so much better for it. :thumbsup2

Over the years I've tried most slimming clubs and lost with them all but WW is the only one I stuck with to get to goal. :yay:

I know so much about losing weight it could be my expert subject on Master Mind, I just can't stick to the plans. :confused3

Well, lets hope 2015 is a good year for us all.

Hi can I join in as well?

My weight has been fluctuating for the last few years; I find it easiest to stick with a diet if I have a fixed goal in mind. I was able to loose a lot of weight before my wedding a few years ago but since then it's creeped up to a point that I'm longer happy with it.

We're off to Florida at the end of October and I'm hoping have lost at least 2 stone by then. Rather than using weightwatchers I'm using My Fitness Pal to track what I eat; I like the fact that it's free!

Ours is a Morphy Richards sautée and soup. It does, smooth soup, chunky soup and fruit based drinks too. Think it was about £40 but it's worth it :)

As for slow cookers, I'm not sure what ours is but it's handy as you can take the 'bowl' part out and put through the dishwasher, our old one was a sealed unit so had to wash it without dunking it!
