DIS VIDEO | New Mint Julep

Interesting! We'll have to check this out when we're there in a week.

I tried the new mint julep last week. I think it's somewhat less sweet, and I was able to drink multiple refills in the BB, which usually I wouldn't drink that much of a sweet drink.

As a long-time DL mint julep fan, I'm kind of stumped. I don't know if the green color had some sort of magical psychological effect on taste perception, or if this is truly a different recipe. It might be the same one, without food coloring! Crazy, huh?! I'd love to know if it is really a new recipe or just a trick of the mind.

In any event, I maintain my Mint Julep Love, look forward to many in the future, but kinda wish it was still green!

Thanks, ImTooExcitedToSleep, for the video! Seems like you're kinda stumped, too!

Sure, directly upstairs from the Mint Julep Bar:

The well stocked bars at Carthay Circle or Napa Rose can likely make one.

Aww, I've been drinking those (albeit rarely) since I was a little girl. All my childhood memories of DL keep changing. I'll give it a try, though. I do think the former ones were way too sugary and I never, never, never drank an entire one by myself because of that.

My DD15 and I cannot get enough of the Mint Juleps. When we are there we are always drinking them especially when we are dining at either BB or at Cafe Orleans (we get many refills at these 2 restaurants). We love everything about them, hopefully the only real thing that has changed about this drink is the color (even though I kind of liked the green tone), however if it is less sweet then the original, then that may not be a bad thing either :goodvibes. I don't know we will have to wait until December when we are back there to try the new one.

I'll miss the color of the old style even though I should know better than to want green dye in a food product. But I do look forward to the mint julep being slightly less sweet. I agree with your assessment that a less sugary drink will be more refreshing on a warm day. I'll definitely be giving it a try!

IMG_1063.JPGI've posted this picture before, but it's one of my favorites and I figured this was a good time to post again and show what the "old" mint julep looked like. Definitely a greener tint and a maraschino cherry instead of the slice of lemon.

They've always been too sweet for me so I look forward to giving them another try!

I'm with you Ryno- My first must is coffee on Main Street but for my first break of the day it has to be NOS and a mint julep! I'll be there in 30 days (but who's counting!) and I'll be sure to try the new recipe out!
