DIS TRADING ETIQUETTE Guideline, your thoughts please

I try constantly to get people to set a time to meet up. Most of them never seem to get the point. I ask them, "what would be a good time". They just say anytime. Or they'll send me a pm saying "I'm on now". That's great if I happen to be on both DIS and VMK and with the correct character.
I'll keep asking them to give me a time that they'll be on so I know when to log in for the trade.

Also make sure to just take off those items you've already traded. I've seen so many posts where the person will put *traded* next to the item. That can get a little much to wade through if it's a mega trade thread.

Also, those that bid should take a close look at the OP and make sure that they offer only items that a person asks for. I can't tell you how many times I'll be trading something and put my wants as only these items and get offered everything else under the sun.

I agree. I also don't really like pm'd offers. It can get really confusing for the trader as well. I usually put please no pm's unless we have an agreement already.

One thing I can't stand is when a person posts they are trading something when they are using it in other trades as well. I'll see a thread, offer on the item listed and get accepted and make arrangements to meet. Sometimes it may be right then, but most likely in a couple of hours. When I finally get in VMK to trade, I'll sit and wait and wait and wait only to find out "Oh, I don't have that any more". I've had this happen numerous times and it's frustrating to the extreme.
Or I'll post a trade thread, get an offer that I like and accept it then find out later that the person says "I already traded that, you want something else".
Do not offer things for trade in multiple places unless you have multiples of the item for trade.

I somewhat disagree on this, if you like my offer accept it. If you want to wait a week so you get the most from your item, I will be looking for it elsewhere for a week also. First one to accept my offer wins.

My views on trades and ask for help threads:

1.Make sure you have contact with this person before you buy and they accept your help so you know you are the person buying for them. Don't assume you are buying for someone if you have not both agreed.

2.Give a date/time when the trade can be done, if you can't make the date PM the person and let them know. Even a estimated time is better than nothing. If you are the one who cannot make the dates arranged, you should be the one who is contacting the other person. It is rude to not keep the other person updated if it is your fault you cannot meet up.

3. If the other person is not on your friend list, I suggest you come here first and see if they are online, than PM them. Than you can set a place to meet up right away.

4. Make sure you list the correct item name, slang or shortened names are confusing to some people. If you think not, next time you are in the pirates treasure room and open the gold chest , tell everyone in the room you just won salad magic and watch the responses fly.

5.If you decide not to trade after you accept an offer, tell the other person, don't just keep them hanging waiting in rooms for you or waiting for PM's. I would rather know you backed out of a trade than to hold an item I can trade somewhere else.

6. If you cannot accept my offer right away or you want to keep the item up for bids for a week to get the most out of it, that's fine but I will also be looking for that item somewhere else for the same time period. Don't be mad when I come back and say I am withdrawing my offer when I find it. You want maximum dollar than you take the risk.

7. Do not make stupid replies about somebody's offer for your items if they tell you upfront they are not sure on somethings value or if they were not around when the item came out. If you know the value yourself inform them of it. If you are wanting more of the higher value items, list some of them. In fact I would suggest making a seperate thread for you higher value items from your more common rare items. You might even want to seperate the current buyables in another thread. Remember, not everyone knows the value of some items if they have not bought one yet.

keep it coming people, is this all you got? I know there are some more ideas out there

How about trying to sort through everyones ideas and trying to narrow down things that are "ethical" rather than convenient and seeing if it can be knocked down to like 10. Then maybe everyone can try and improve the wording to make it concise and to the point. Then we can sticky the thread after delicious updates post #1 to be sort of a "code of ethics"

Delicious you will need to add a blurb up top that these are not enforceable rules by the DIS moderation team but rather a guideline.

THEN if I might be so bold as to put another idea out there ;) Then when it seems worked out.

When creating a new trade thread you could add something like

" I trade by the DIS trade code of ethics" or a blurb. Then you will know up front what to expect from someone who adds that to their trade threads.

What an excellant idea, I wonder if we can get the webmasters to make us a
userbar.
