DIS Shareholders and Stock Info ONLY

I don't share the optimism about streaming being able to keep raising prices. Some services like ESPN+ I think have the ability to do that - live, on demand content. Max might have some room to move up with their new strategy including live news with CNN for example.

The "watch old tv shows from 10 years ago" and movies from yesteryear and pay $20 a month thing I'm skeptical has legs. But then again, lots of people still have Netflix, which I felt priced out of years ago.

Netflix just has a massive library and some really good things you can only see there (i.e., One Piece, Squid Game, Stranger Things, etc.)

I think historically people have shown they will pay a lot for TV/cable and still go out and buy/rent movies or go to a theatre etc. So, there is a built in budget for entertainment. I think what we are seeing is that theatres are the ones losing out the most. Cord-cutters are at least putting some of their old cable bill back into streaming apps and waiting for theatrical releases to show up on an app.

Disney market cap (155bn) is less than the cash in hand for Apple reported just yesterday of $162bn.

Could really just buy up DIS without any debt or stock swap.

🤔

I'll tell you the service I decided I got priced out on finally, and it wasn't Netflix. Its D+. Jumping from 79.99/year for current sub to 139.99 a year if we renew in a week or so.

Yea I'm out.

I doubt I'm the only one either. Granted we managed to get in another year for the last price hike to 100/yr or whatever it was, but a $60 jump is still a big pill to swallow when they really don't have a ton of content that's must watch exclusive to d+. Will be interesting to see their streaming subs numbers over the next few months.

No idea but analysts like to predict that Apple is gonna buy em up and that'd be pretty easy now with how awful DIS has performed recently.
"Analysts" as in news pundits who want to get clicks.

Don't forget you can stay around $100/yr with the ad version of the service. Seems to be the way all the services are going - increase the ad free to a point that gets most to go to the ad version.

To each there own on what services you choose but it is a $5/mo increase. I am not sure that is breaking a lot of people.

ehh $5 doesnt break the bank for me, but when other services also go up another $5 a month, it starts to add up, and thats when i start canceling things.

i mean, i'm not anywhere near canceling my disney plus, but yeah, i can totally see why others do.

its never just $5 on one thing that causes someone to cancel something, its usually the straw that broke the camel's back.

$5 per month isn't much but as mentioned before we're also approaching price marks where, let's say you're subscribed to three or four services... you start to think about which of them you watch *least* and if it seems like a good idea to drop it. I did this with Netflix a couple of years ago (since resubscribed since I get it for free through my cell provider now). At the end of the day, it's a *lot* of content to watch and it was easier to justify subscribing to all of them when they were under $10 each per month.

I would love ad free Hulu but I can’t justify the cost of $17.99 per month. So I watch the ads. Don’t know how much Netflix is going for these days but I couldn’t believe how expensive Hulu has become.

Disney better be careful.

Netflix Standard is $15.49/month and Premium $22.99/month with the ad-Tier remaining at $6.99.

According to this list, which looks to be updated for the latest price increases:

Hulu is the highest ad free cost, I had not realized they had gotten that expensive. But I'm sure they are looking to push people to the bundle, which would drop it to $8 for each service - a bargain! LoL

It is shocking how quickly prices are going up and services being degraded - just got an email from Max saying that streams are being reduced by one and 4K is being removed, while prices do nothing but go up...shrinkflation comes to streaming...

Some of them may also increase their costs after a Sag-Aftra deal is in place. Netflix has already been reported to have plans to increase again after that happens.

We have known for a long time that a la carte style offerings are more expensive. It is why the cable model worked for all those years. Streaming is a far superior experience. I dont like spending more money but I am currently still less than my cable bill and can cancel on a whim.
