Dis Pros, can you please point me in the right directions?

You can always go from a hotel (Boardwalk, for example) to DTD and from there to your hotel. It may take a while but DTD is open and buses run until 2:00 AM. The monorail schedule has changed and there is no word on when it will revert to its normal schedule so we will all have to watch this if visiting in the next few months.

[QUOTE="Austriankrystl"
how is getting back to hotels from boardwalk, though, after the parks are all closed? we aren't planning on having a car during disney. transportation has me "extra careful" about not getting "stranded". taxis can add up...[/QUOTE]

As a.PP mentioned you can do DTD. If HS was still open you can go back there too. I have heard buses at DTD get really backed up tho especially with construction going on. If HS is still open, I would head back there and get on a bus to resort. Or if you had hoppers (sorry I can't remember if you are planning on those or not) you could go thru the international gate at Epcot if it was still open out to the front of Epcot to get back. If not it is probably easiest to take a cab...I know it can add up tho as you mentioned.

Everything I have read so far on the theme park and strategies board says they are on this year.

I thought I read a few places they were done. I also could have sworn they said on the disunplugged podcast a couple of times that they were done. I am not confident in that but I feel like I heard it there. I couldn't even begin to remember which episode as I just started listening to them in the last 4-6 weeks so I did a lot of catching up on past episodes during that time.

Waiting2go -- I really hope you are wrong :worried: I was really hoping this was going to be part of our time in WDW. If anyone hears anything please let us all know (it IS on the Christmas events page but listed as 2013-2014, so maybe last year :confused3). You are such a help!

PPerfect -- Thank you! We are not planning on hoppers (just cannot warrant the money up front--I suppose we could change when we get there if we really want/need them). Hoping to limit our "run-around stress". Your advice and knowledge is a great help. I think you really know how to pesent th perfect ideas for us!

RVMH -- I hope I'm not being too dramatic or boring anyone! I am enjoying all your help and advice! I would be lost without it (even if it doesn't totally seem so). If you want more details... no better not offer--you could be mortally sorry...

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one wanting fireworks and romance also from outside the parks. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. I didn't even think of the Grand Floridian as a firework/parade viewpoint. What a lovely idea! (This is great! having multiple ideas ensures at least one will work out!)

Waiting2go -- I JUST found this thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3290346

I hope I added the link right.

You made me curious! I just had to see if I could find the answer (I even posted in another forum). I guess they really are planning on several options and just decided for 2014. Thank you for the heads up!

I promise I wasn't trying to make things difficult on you. Before I even read your link I went on Disney's site to see if I could find the answer. Under special events there is a 5 hour holiday lights tour. The Osbourne lights are listed so it must mean they are back. So, I apologize. I glad you will get to see them.

I am so happy you'll be able to see the lights. I actually teared up a couple of times last Dec. I remember it so well. The lights came on and people were just in amazement. They play songs of course and when Feliz Navidad came on people started singing and even had a little dance in their walk as they made their way down the street. I am sure it sounds a little crazy but it made my heart smile and tears started flowing b/c I was so happy. I'm a sucker for Christmas tho. Candlelight Processional and a couple of the Epcot Storytellers caused me to tear up too.

FYI - a fun thing to look for in Osborne Lights is the black cat in the lights. Apparently when the lights were sold some Halloween decorations got included and they always put the black cat somewhere. =)

Wishing you the most amazing honeymoon. You will have a wonderful time indeed.

Not to throw even more things at you, but there are carriage rides through Ft. Wilderness Campgrounds. I want to say the cost was around $68, for up to 4 people...obviously you would just have the 2 of you. I could see this being a romantic experience outside the parks too. And fun b/c the campers decorate for Christmas!

I think we are all enjoying your planning journey. Christmas is such a lovely time at WDW. I am a camper and you really need to find a little time to take the boat from MK to Fort Wilderness . The"over the top" decorations on the camping loops are amazing, especially at night. You can walk or take an internal campground bus and be amazed at the lights, sounds and movement - all done by individual campers.

You are going to love this trip and we do want to hear details!

HI Guys,

OK... intervention avoided. And I think I've actually given WDW advice out :lmao: to AMERICANS!!!!! And I know this is a good thing--a VERY good thing.

:offtopic:

Last night (just in time for the Deutschland-USA WC soccer match) I got a phone call! From my "Godmother" asking if we wanted to go out to dinner--and they were 10 minutes from my house! :goodvibes:

They are visiting Europe and came to visit ME!!!!!!! I haven't seen anyone from "home" in 6 years except my mom and her husband who visited last fall (1st visitors in 3 years). It was an emotional day.... and not because of the soccer game.

They found out what we were planning and are THRILLED for us. They had never heard of the Free Dining and needless to say were impressed and want to check it out.

1st of all: DF approval from "home"... remember, no one really knows him or these plans. So very important to me. And they truly are family....

2nd of all: He's on-board even more than ever with the WDW thing (and me taking over the planning--and going overboard) and my Christmas dreams. He was always on-board but more for me and our once-in-a-lifetime "splurge" vacation/honeymoon (a pragmatic, easy going :firefight). Suddenly, it's a non-issue--he wants me to keep checking things out and planning... and wants us to have a magical Christmas (he's never been much of a Christmas person).

3rd of all: We may have company in WDW after all (some family decided to check out pricing/ability)... my dream come true.

You have got me booked at all the right places! We are scheduled to book for CP with Chefs de France when it becomes available for Friday middle-show (TA is taking care of all this). Still haven't heard back from the other ressis (I am having problems with the website)

Have I said THANK YOU to you all, yet? I know I am not "fast enough" but it will all work out with the ressis, I have faith!

Waiting2go--seriously, I am SOOOO thankful that you took the time and take the time to share what you know. I really saw it as a great tip to confirm and make sure I am not planning with "old info". Because of your help (and everyone else's) I know we are going to have a "perfect for us" vacation. Thank you for sticking around and just giving more and more ideas...

Practically--no worries, I am a Christmas sucker too (but DF isn't really, just likes it, so he's coming along for the crazy ride--and the reason we are skipping the MVMCP and hoping for Holiday wishes at least once--still torn between best location). Is it bad that I want fireworks and/or romance every single night?????

You have such great ideas and know so much about this--you are invaluable. (And I just found out Mannheim Steamroller may be at Universal--sigh... do I dare try to do that, too?)

RVMH--thank you for caring and reading. Writing you all has really moved the anticipation up a notch or 2 or 3... I really really appreciate you guys more than you will ever know. Planning is more fun with happy help.

Should this be on this board or the planning board--it's almost a planning journal or something. But I hope others may find these tips and info really useful.

Can I ask a semi-personal question of you all? how often have you all been? how do you all know so much to share? can I read your "stories" somewhere? (I'm half-cat---curiouser and curiouser)

I'll start it off ! Here's a brief background story for me.

DH and I are retired; we sold our home outside of DC, bought a motorhome and for the past few years we have been traveling the U.S., Canada and Mexico. It's been an incredible journey and we plan to continue for the forseeable future.

We get to Disney every year; we've been doing that even before retirement - for 25 years or so. In recent years we've been able to spend more time and we now plan for 2 or 3 weeks at Fort Wilderness. The campground is pretty laid back and has lots to do; we can also have our traveling companion ( a small white dog) with us instead of in a kennel.

We've visited twice now with children and grand daughters (3 of them - 2 living in MD and 1 from CA) and those trips have been frenetic , fun, and exhausting. We do enjoy our time alone (alone at WDW being a relative term) a lot. We stroll the parks, people watch, and bar hop on the monorail in the evening - and watch fireworks EVERY night.

It's fun to journey with you as you begin exploring one of our favorite places and as you begin a journey that we've been taking for many more years. We look forward to hearing more of your story and I'll happily throw in my two cents worth as we travel.

Not sure what I offered but I'm glad you feel I have helped.

As far as my story. Nothing too impressive. I have been 5 times, with my 6th scheduled for this October when I am running my first runDisney race. My first trip was my honeymoon. Eventhough I am going to be getting a divorce my honeymoon was still one of the best times of my life. Anytime I hear of someone having their honeymoon at Disney I just hope their's is 1/2 as nice as mine. And I now hope their marriage is twice as good as mine. :thumbsup2

When I go I try to do something different each time, that gives me a little bit more exposure. I like to read about all things Disney. I am on a few email lists. And in recent months I listen mostly to disunplugged podcasts but I keep searching for others as well. Great way to pass the time on a long car ride or run while I train for my October race.

In comparison to some I am still a relative rookie myself. Once the divorce is final I suspect I will be there much more than I have as the wife always put a damper on my plans to go. :confused3

I hope you have the greatest honeymoon and a long and happy marriage.

Hi AK (I think I should be calling you Belle LOL) just stumbled across this thread and love it. Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials. :bride:

I'd love to help where possible. I like to give you additional dining recommendations but you appear to have a great idea of what you want to do and I don't want to add any confusion.

When subscribing to a thread, a page will come up asking you how often you want notified. You can choose none, instant, daily & weekly. But remember after selecting your notification type you then have to push the button to add subscription. I forget to do this sometimes and then loose the thread. LOL

I feel that I can relate to your touring style. It is just my husband and I and we are late diners and late nighters. So I totally understand your desire to do late nt. EMH.

When we were last at Disney in 2010 we purchased park hopper tickets and didn't park hop once. For us it is a waste of $.

We prefer to save traveling time and choose a restaurant in the park or area that we plan to be in that day. Saves so much time for us. Instead of spending time traveling we get that much more time in the park.

If you would like to read my trip report from our 2010 trip just click on the link in the bottom of my signature. It will give you more details on our touring style and about us. We also visited Disney a few days for our honeymoon in 1991. Man have things changed a lot since then.

Last year we were fortunate to live our Dream of finally getting to Europe. We rented an RV for 18 nt's and drove through France, Italy and your area in Germany. Loved Munchen and Neuschwanstein Castle. God I've loved that castle since I was a kid and first saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. LOL what a dream come true. The RV trip was followed up by a 6 nt stay in a Paris apartment. Here is a link to my blog and trip report for that trip.

Looking forward to hearing more details on your final decisions. popcorn::

Hi AK - I really don't have that impressive of a story....have been on 3 longer trips and 3 short ones. One of those was a crazy 24 hour trip where I opened MK at WDW and closed DL out in Cali. My.most recent trip was Dec 2013.i have wanted to go at Christmas time for years but work is awful that time of year so I can't get the time off. Well just so happens that last year they required all of us to take a week off unpaid in the 4th quarter so I chose the week after thanksgiving and went to WDW! I had done tons of research and had everything planned out. It was just me and a friend and she doesn't go as crazy as I do so lots of the trip I was solo. It was a BLAST! Before I left tho, my BFF came over and helped me with the logistics of things....so the easiest way/less time consuming way of seeing everything. For example: I wanted to see the decorations at all the monorail resorts. Well it makes most sense to see Contemporary on the day I was going from MK to Epcot since the monorail is on the way. I even drew myself a map of world showcase with the times listed of all the storytellers so I could plan out what time and go in somewhat order son in wasn't walking from UK to China. My last day of that trip I was able to do all 4 parks with all my fave rides and was even able to get some of my fave treats (Dole Whip and salted caramels) and met merida. It was a perfect day.

Anywho - so happy for you that family might be able to join. And nothing wrong at all for wanting all the romance....it's your honeymoon!

I just love reading how your planning is going! From all the wedding activities to planning such an elaborate honeymoon (which I would kill for, it sounds AMAZING) you are doing such a good job! I am kinda in awe just because between planning my trip and school I can barely keep everything straight!

I am so excited to see how it all turns out, you have to do a trip report. My BF and I aren't engaged yet (due to the upcoming Disney trip but you know, priorities) but in order to start saving and with grad school plans, we're starting to look and decide on a date, more than likely in 2017. So, reading your trip report will help with the anticipation and 3 year wait I'll have!

Also, have you posted your engagement/how you met story anywhere on the boards? I would love to read it! I love reading these, especially how you met stories, probably because mine is super embarrassing for me and I'm always hoping to find one similar/more embarrassing than mine lol!

I've been to Disney World almost twenty times (this will be my 20th) since 2000 when I was seven. Most of them 7-10 day stays, with a couple weekend (3-4 day) trips thrown in when we had annual passes (once for my birthday, another for F&W and MNSSHP). Three of the trips have been with extended family (once with grandparents in our room, my mom me my cousin her three boys in one room, and then an uncle and aunt with their kids in a different resort). Being with your family is always fun, and will be so great for you! But, you will read on several threads that it can go really bad, fast. Just be sure to plan some separate time, where you each get to do your own think with park time (and you and your hubby get time for romance) and then meet up later for dinner if you so choose.

This trip will be my boyfriends first real trip, and the first trip for us. I'm trying to include things he will like (Jellyrolls, dining) and some romantic things for us. Right now, I have a carriage ride scheduled at Port Orleans Riverside. It's a 25 min ride and the grounds are so gorgeous. I booked it for my parents 19th anniversary a few years ago and they loved it. I'm also looking into a couples massage at the Grand Floridian, and I have a dinner at Narcoossee's booked so we can go on the deck to watch the fireworks.

Something that is a little more expensive (planning on doing it our honeymoon trip) is a wishes or illuminations cruise.

I'm not sure if you are doing a wedding registry or anything like that, but Disney has a honeymoon registry that acts similar. You register for different things you would want (a wishes cruise, massage, a special dinner, etc) and then your guests can help pay for that. If there is something you would really like to do, but can't fit it in the budget, that's always an option. I would post the link for it, but I am on my phone.

YAY!!!! I feel so loved :goodvibes

Well, today started out not so hot--I did NOT get BOG like I really really really really wanted--but I have been told that not all is lost and 3 of us will keep trying to get it.

Every other reservation is set in place! YAY!

I LOVE reading all your posts. Seriously, I like knowing who I'm writing. I'm old-fashioned like that, got my embossed stationary and everything and even know ALL my facebook friends personally (scary, I know).

We are such an ultimately diverse group and that really impresses me! That is how you all are helping me so much--different viewpoints, ideas and tips.

Waiting2go--seriously?? you helped me tons in your advice and even questioning the lights. I just assumed things were going to be like 2013 (naive, but hey, I'm allowed). You got me really into this searching and finding....

I am sorry that things didn't quite work out for you but WOW! am I impressed that you can look past the whole relationship stuff and still see the great times you had! Not sure I could do that. But it makes me love your attitude even more! :cool1:

Thumper, I love your name--I REALLY wanted to change my status from "earning my ears" to "totally twitterpaited" but chickened out.... Thanks for writing! Guess I do need to do a trip report. :scared:

Iam0037--WOW! I can so relate to you (except the prior-experience). This is our first trip, too, and I am trying to balance things out for us. Not so easy, but it's getting there! Oh, and I find our "story" totally... hmmm not really interesting.

But yes, I guess fair play is in order. My "romantic story" is nowhere to be found because I'm not sure anyone would be interested in it. I read through the "wedding and honeymoon" sticky and got totally depressed. All seemed to be planning a Disney wedding and just didn't fit--so I decided to write here in all my desperation of finding ideas and direction to the right threads. I have never written in a forum before.

Well, suddenly there are 3 people offering advice, tips, their personal favs and I just suddenly decided this is really cool. (a bit selfish? hope not.) I am not overwhelmed anymore (but obsessed with getting BOG afterall.)

I am 38 years old living in Germany. I left the USA as an exchange student and... that was a LONG time ago! 5 years ago I was working as a college professor/translator and part time. (Bare with me--this IS my love story) My kick-a** pro-singing cousin double dog dared me to try tour guiding during the summer (because she knew I WOULD follow through). I spent 3 months chronically sick to my stomach because I had to get up front and be cute and adorable and talk... it is NOT second nature--but I guess I was ok, because I ended up working there until 3 years ago.

A car accident made me unable to work for a year and to financially get by, I started a job working as a "college jobbers info station" at the train station. I met tons of great people and one woman asked me to show her around, etc. She was picked up by her boyfriend and that is how DF and I met for the first time. :scared:

No, I am not a BF-stealer... promise...

So far a great story ! We'll wait for more. It's fun to see the stories of all posters. Nice to know that Disney appeals to ALL ages and circumstances...

Well here is mine. I'm sure it might make you feel better.

My friend (actually my little in my sorority) convinced me to go to a party with her and her other friend. I begrudgingly went, but really wasn't feeling it b/c it was a bunch of freshmen and I was a sophomore and just not really my scene. So, to make up for that, I drank a lot of hunch punch (i.e. very strong, no one knows what or how much alcohol is in it, etc). Well as the story goes (by this point I was really hammered and don't remember much) and I was sitting by myself on a barstool when some guy (now my BF) came and talked to me. At some point we were sitting on the couch talking and i puked. On myself. Mid sentence. He cleaned me up, we went to another party together the next night, then lunch a couple times and then we were inseparable. We've been together just over a year and we got our first fur baby Elvis in February from a shelter.

ALSO, have you looked at this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3285254
It's where people post their cancellations for ADRs and you can coordinate with them to try to book it at the same time they cancel it. More people will post as it gets closer to December. We have a BOG for 2 people we might be canceling, but its for the 21st so it won't help you, but I'm proof people do cancel them.

RVMH--you are AWESOME!!! one of my best memories growing up was when my grandparents turned into motorhome explorers. One summer we went through all the Western states to the Dakotas.... very cool!!! AND I didn't know how to say this without sounding... odd...

Someday I want to be you. we are already eyeing the eurovan style for now (but first we need the house, I'm afraid).... and we would need kids to become grandparents--hmmm.... timing issues, I'm afraid. I'll settle for jealous!

Iam0037--you are the BEST!!! here's hoping... this is all going to work out, I just know it!

AND... yes, you make me feel better. I just think it's one of those stories that you had to be there to appreciate it (or watch it in a movie--art follows life?) and... it worked out! YAY!

our friends just got their furry baby, but I have baby-restrictions until we have a house. DF says I'm like the pied piper--everything follows me home (we have about 15 sparrows who think I'm mommy or God--getting a complex here). I'm really jealous of people with furry babies...

My story isn't very interesting at all, but I figured I'd share anyway! I was dating a guy for awhile and I just realized we weren't meant to be so we broke up. Approximately 3 weeks later I started hanging out with a coworker (I bartender at a restaurant) almost every night after work and we connected instantly! My biggest problem was that he is TEN years older (I'm 24, he's 34) but we have now been together for 3 years and I couldn't be happier. In the beginning of our relationship my family was going to Disney and I decided to ask him to come with us. He finally agreed to come and I loved showing him everything I love about Disney and it was an awesome bonding experience. We went the year after by ourselves and he loved every minute of it! We now have a trip planned this fall from October 29 - November 11 and I am trying a new resort, new restaurants, and Universal and Seaworld. I am so happy he accepts my Disney addiction (mostly because if he didn't, we wouldn't be able to stay together)!
