First, I have to say "Hi Neighbor!" (I'm in Louisiana, too!).

Secondly, don't worry about anything else happening. You know how they say bad things happen in 3's? Well, you've got your 3 out of the way:

1. virus
2. bruised knee
3. busted lip

So, you're good to go! Wishing y'all a safe & happy vacation! :wizard:

amandaw - thanks for the reminder about the "3"s rule. where in LA are you at?

We are in Shreveport!

Hi! My name is Steph and I am a mom of 3 and our 4th is due in Jan!

I am as my DH says "Obsessed with Disney" and our trips to Disney are so organized that he says most people are not like me! I told him to visit the DIS boards and he'd see quite a few are!! :rotfl:

I have been to Disney 6 times at least and we just purchased DVC!
I basically introduced my DH to Disney when we took a Disney Cruise back in '98. We were on the Magic with another couple and LOVED every minute of it! Even to where we compared our 2 week Hawaiian Honeymoon Cruise to Disney and Disney blew Celebrity out of the water!

We have been to WDW the past 3 years with our kids and will be visiting again next April over Spring Break! We also have an off-site timeshare right at the Animal Kingdom fences! It's so cool being separated only by a fence!!

School starts on Wednesday!:cheer2: I have kids who thrive on routine & summer has no routine. 3 days of summer day camp that includes two days of swimming and one day of field trip (s). Then one day w/ my mom a.k.a. The Queen of Sugar!! Then a day w/ me or dh. Then there is the weekends.... Summer also include going to Holiday World at least every other week, the zoo a couple of times w/in the summer, a couple of movies during the summer, staying outside until dark playing, & a beach vacation. But I am also the villian because I make them do a little bit of homework & read books. During school it's school, homework, and dance for both then depending on the season soccer for one, basketball for both, & softball for one. They thrive on routine meals, bed times, homework times, television times, and so on.... I stink at giving routine during the summer. I think that the first day of school may be in pretty high rankings of one of the best days of the year. :yay:

We also start in 5 days. Looking forward to getting back into a normal routine with the little one. On an even better note only 70 days till Disney, Yay!

WOW! I would NOT be ready! Around here, school doesn't start until after Labor Day so I still have a month. And we are out the 24th of May so we have a solid 3 months of summer. I love that!
Besides, my babies are in Kindergarten this year and I will miss them!!:rolleyes1

Hello Ladies!

School starts here the day after labor day.... of course it was almost July before they got out.

We have 10 days until vacation! :) Woot! Woot!

What state do you live in? In KY we have 1 wk for spring break, 1 wk fall break, & 2 wks for Christmas. We also do not have the equipment for ice & snow (flooding, too this year) so we have 5-10 days we make up from this. Typically, they are in school until the last week of May or the first few days of June. We have to pay about $100- $130 in child care per week during the summer but during school we are able to work it out so we do not have any child care.

My daughter does not start school until September 1st this year. I love my summers to much to give them up so early for school. They get a break at Thanksgiving, Christmas and a spring break which I am thankful for but we are gone every weekend of the summer?

My ds doesn't start until Sept. 8th, he was in school until June 28th. It's driven by the teachers contract for us. They will not start before Sept. 8th unless it is an exceptional event (religious holiday), and they do not work after June 30th. I'm sure they are in the classrooms preparing before the 8th, but the kids don't attend until then.

I'm glad because I need time to get the school supplies together, and our summer seems to be flying by! DS13 is away at camp this week so we are kidless. We will miss him, but it's nice to have a break -- I never know if I'm getting my sweet boy, or the giant, sullen hormone...

JUNE 28TH!?!?:scared1: We had snow, ice, flooding,... and our schools were out on June 2nd & that was a little over 2weeks after their original scheduled dismissal date. August is the hottest month of the year in KY w/ horrible humidity so for the kids w/o ac it's probably good. My kids wear shorts from the end of March/ first of April until typically Halloween (long sleeves/ jacket at night). It's nothing to see someone wearing flip flops in late February. We have a lot of in-service days. My kids start school at 7:40 & are out at 2:20. Busses have to drive in very rural areas. When I was a kid I was on the bus for an hour in the a.m. & 1 1/2 hours in the p.m. Back then they use to excuse us for hunting & farming. No joke. My kids are excused for two days a year for dance productions, still not joking. They will close a school down in the community if their team makes it to a state championship, no joke. The privates school are the same except w/ religion. My kids use to go to a private school & it is the same at the public school they are in except w/ no religion or uniforms. My kids are looking forward to school starting. They like school.

It's interesting how different states have different traditions as far as school.

We are in MN and I "think" that originally, the start/end dates were decided because so many small farmers needed their kids home to help do field work. When I was a kid, even into Sept. if high school boys were needed to help with harvest, the school didn't say anything when they were absent. My older brothers loved that!
Now, even though the small farmers are mostly gone, the tradition stayed. We are typically out of school before Memorial Day and do not start back until after Labor Day.
We have 2 days off for Thanksgiving, 1 week for Christmas, Presidents day, 2 days for Easter, and about 5 other teacher-workshop days. We also get 2 days off every Oct. for Educators Convention. We have 2 snow-days worked into the school schedule and if we don't use them, school is out earlier. If we need more snow days, we loose Easter Monday, then add on at the end of the year.
Usually we only need 2 snow days because once the plows can clear the roads, the buses are out so we have a few '2 hours late' days but that's about it.
We do not have a spring break, and other than Christmas there are not many opportunities to take a family vacation without the kids missing school. Thankfully, here they do not put up much fuss for missing days for family vacations. since we are pulling the kids for 7 days in the spring!

And yes- if our sports team makes it to playoffs, we close school too! Small towns really support our teams. Although, dance isn't really considered a sport here ? so no days off there... the big ones here are volleyball, basketball, and of course, football.
