DIS Moms - Anyone's pets get super-clingy before having your babies?

I'm 39 weeks pregnant this week (due next Tuesday!), and my two German Shepherds have been glued to my side for the last few months, but since yesterday it's a whole new level of insanity.

It started when, at 4:00 am yesterday, my male Shepherd (Jack) woke me up. He has a potty emergency once or twice a year (only when he's sick, or when it's really hot out and he drank a lot of water before bed - and it has been really hot here the last few days). I got up to take him outside.... and he didn't want to go! He just sauntered over to his water bowl, had a drink, and then waited for me to take him back upstairs. The dogs have free reign of the house at night and can visit the water bowl at their leisure - the bowl is often empty in the morning, so I know that they do regularly go downstairs to drink at night. :confused3 Jack just didn't want to leave the bedroom without me, in the night.

So, later on in the morning, I decide to take the dogs to their favorite dog park, while it's still cool out. Our female Shepherd, Sasha, was a complete nutcase. She is normally pretty quiet and calm (she's almost 7 years old), but she was barking and crying the entire time we were there - just completely wound up and overstimulated by everything. I know a lot of the weekday "dog park regulars" because I've been there nearly everyday since I stopped working a few weeks ago, and they were all shocked by how different she was acting from normal. When DH got home from work, he even noticed her behaving totally differently and started referring to her as Puppy-Sasha because her behavior was more indicative of a young puppy than a 7 year old mature dog. She also would not leave my side, at all. When I was lying on the couch, she was sitting right next to me and staring at me, until I let her up on the couch with me. We don't normally let the dogs on the furniture (they know it's a privilege that is given rarely) but Sasha would not calm down until she was lying practically on top of me.

And now today, I can't type because I have two German Shepherd heads on my arms and they're both staring at me and panting and wagging their tails. :confused3 I love these dogs, but I'm going to go have a shower with the chief purpose of getting out of their reach for a few minutes! :rotfl:

Has anyone else experienced anything like this in late pregnancy? Did you go into labor soon after? I've heard that animals can sense hormonal changes, but I'm wondering if this actually means anything! I'd love to have this baby a few days early (it's so HOT here! OK, not hot by the standards anywhere else in the country, but hot for Seattle! :lmao:) but I don't want to read too much into my dogs suddenly losing their minds! :lmao:

I truly believe they have a sixth sense and know what is up. You are so close and they know it. I think it is cool when they do it.

My cat Rocket seemed to get cuddlier and cuddlier. It was all I could
do to sleep because he would be towards the top
of my belly and sometimes very close to my face.

They may know something you don't...maybe you are due sooner rather than later...

I am not talking from baby experience, but from weird pet behaviors...mine get real clingy when I get migraines, or DH has a bout with his GERD...

Either way...GL with the new little one!

Yep, my cat was positively GLUED to my belly through most of my pregnancy! FYI, she's best-buds with my DS now, 8 years later. :goodvibes
