I see Meredith Vierra (bad spelling here) is wearing finger-tip-less gloves out on the plaza this morning on the Today Show and she said she's using handwarmers too! I was thinking about picking up some more hand warmers. We use them when we're skiing or sleigh riding but they could come in handy NOW...I found them in big boxes at Costco a couple of years ago...wonder if they have them again this year? I am still holding out without turning the heat on (yet). DH and DS are complaining A LOT tho! I put a small space heater in the bathroom just for showers... I figure if I can sit here all darn day with 3 layers, a blanket, wool socks and gloves they can deal with it for the evenings and mornings, right?! I am really afraid of what will happen to the gas bill once I turn the heat on with all the talk about the prices.

annie - look into mattress heaters

I know we get nowhere NEAR your temps, but it is relative to us because we freeze at 60..anyway, a few years ago I got mattress pad heaters rather than running the heat at night (which scares me..we had a heater fire when I was a kid). Get an automatic thermostat to kick on an hour before you get up so the house isn't icy when you wake up

This advice may make you laugh at my ignorance, but I only use the heat to take the chill off..otherwise, we are under blankets and dressed in flannel!

I am going to put my flannel sheets on the bed! I don't like electrical appliance type things in bed (STOP it Phyllis! Where IS Phyllis anyway?). I mean like electric blankets & stuff. I had an electric blanket once and it had this like a thermostat thing that turned on & off to maintain an even temperature and I would always hear it turning on & off. Anyway, it made me nervous and I couldn't sleep so I ended up unplugging it and just using the blanket like a blanket (except with wires of course). But I can understand why you wouldn't like space heaters. Back in the day they were really hot & dangerous. I think today's modern ceramic heaters are a lot safer. They have cooling fans and tip-over shut-off switches etc. I try to remember to unplug them when I'm not using them, just like the iron. We already have programmable thermostats on both furnances...LOVE them!

Glad ya like my new avatar pic. I have been wanting to change it for awhile now but I am too technically challenged and needed DH's help. I had another computer problem yesterday so I snagged DH for awhile last night to help me. (I am not bright enough to figure out how to get the Pixel & KB size small enough to meet the DIS requirements!) I was going to take the Wonder Peeps logo out of my siggie too but DH ran out of time last nite... He helped me with that in the beginning too...it's embedded into my SSR pic as one pic. I was going to try to edit it in Photoshop then I screwed up my editing toolbar in there and I can't figure out how to fix it. So I stopped messing with it for now.

no..i don't like the AC/Heater..it caught fire in our attic when I was a kid

My heater is a Sunbeam and it doesn't do that on and off thing..but it does have a preheat to make the bed toasty when you get in ...then it drops to whatever setting you have!

You go, Coach! We just froze our butts off at the field, but Cam got a tie out of it. Literally when I got in my car not only was it pitch dark out, but the outside temp was 44.
I have every imaginable hearing appliance in this house, space heater, a space heater thing that looks liek a radiator, electric blankets, we just got this new thing, dont even know what to call it, it goes on.

While at the field DH got an email from his boss...all raises are suspended from here on in. Of course he was due for his in like 2 weeks. ARGH!

So, did ya all hear the MF announcement? WAY COOL! I wish you all would be there with us though. Can't anyopne squeak in a long weekend?

We just got Boo'ed!! So I guess I gotta run out for Boo'ing materials tomorrow. Hummm....who to boo next? We are supposed to have our annual hayride this weekend...but they're calling for a 70% chance of rain. I just hope Halloween is nice...I still need to finish DS's costume. I can't decide if I want to paint that recycling symbol on the box or just print them, cut them out & glue them on?! Anybody out there got a vote on that?!

LOL! DHS closes at 8:00 that night so from 9:30-11:30 they are renting out....TOY STORY MANIA and the whole Pixar area (I haven't been there since its been redone, so I dont even know what its called). They are doing a dessert party with cash bar, and the ride will be open for the full time. Ironically the way my schedule was I was worried when we arrive at DHS midday the FPs would be gone and the line would be too long so I wouldnt get to ride that. Woohoo! Now its no worries! Oh and we wil lbe the first group to have a party in there.

Way to cold to play soccer at 44 degrees. Nope. Not me. DD wants to try out for winter mid season team. January - March. We may not be here but I told her if she wanted to try out she could. DH disagrees.

Annie - print the recycle symbol and stick it on. Then with the time you have saved have a glass of wine.

We have also been boo'd and likewise have done our boo'ing. It's fun.

OK have to go wash colored hair gel/goop out of DDs hair. Crazy hair day at school today dontchaknow.

Well, I have officially added long johns to my daily attire! 35 degrees out there this morning and still no heat on yet! I think I need some more sets of long underwear tho! Maybe Santa will shop at LL Bean for me this year? I have 1 pair (set of top & pants) of the mid-weight Polartec ones...the Heavyweight is pretty pricey....I don't think the Silk-Weight is heavy enough. Hummm.... I don't know if I can wait for Santa to come...Perhaps I need to make a shopping trip up to the outlets in Hagerstown...

it can get to be 62 upstairs (the warmest part of the house during the day) and remember..we are FLORIDA folk..we pull out sweaters and jeans when the temp low hit 65 outside!!
We are having 2 cold fronts this weekend..should be in the 50's at night out west here..WOO HOO!! Windows open and blankets on the bed!!

Hey CA Peeps - anyone else sad Disney CA Adventure removed the Sun Wheel this past week?? I thought it looked cool right there on the water.

They removed the SUNWHEEL?! That was so cool!! I have this pic of DS peeking around a pole from our trip there with the Sunwheel behind him as my background on my computer! That thing was so so cool.
