DIS-functional Wonder Peeps Part III revisited

I'm bummed for Alicia Sacramone too. Shes from the town next to us. After hearing her story, how she didnt make it last time and almost gave up, but tried again, I woud have just loved to see her get the gold. But hey, silver aint too shabby. Besides, I certianly dont believe all those Chinese gymnasts are 16.

Sarah, thanks for the flair...but why can I see it and you cant??? Im obviously doing something wrong. I added the peeps (the real peeps) too now, and I can see that on there too.

i can't figure out why my flair board doesn't show on my page anymore..

I truly only have Facebook so I can post on Sarah's wall and make her crazy!

:headache: Flairs?:confused3 Is this more Facebook talk?! :rolleyes1

Parents and Aunts should come to visit more often - provides a lot of incentive to get stuff done around the house! Our weather has felt a touch like fall this week (low 80's) so I trimmed the shrubs yesterday. I think the worst part about that is cleaning up the cuttings. YUCK!! Hate that part! On Sunday I washed down my top cabinets in the kitchen...I quit after that as my foot was hurting. Today I plan on doing all the bottom cabinets. And since Rosie doesn't do baseboards gonna have to drag out the old vacuum cleaner & do some cleaning the old fashioned way...:scared: Got 3 more days...much to do!

you guys have to update to "New Facebook" and then you can choose if you want Flair on your front page or on your boxes page.

Okay... no more of that... I'm only here to post a link...

Can we have the summer Olympics back in the US soon? These late nights are killin' me. (I know winter in going to be in Whistler, BC in 2010)

Be sure to show him the one of carrot on the plane. I must be super mean!!

ggggrrrr....

OK so I coach soccer right? Those of you who have coached or with kids on teams...you know how there is usually one (or maybe more) players who just seem off. Way behind the others - size and skills wise. Maybe new to the sport or maybe not. I have just such a player. Says she has played before, just seems a little small OK tiny. Can't do toe touches, passing, shooting...even throw ins just not there... HHMMMM...says I. Must to be looking up how many years she has played and maybe who her coaches were. We have only really had one skills practice. Gearing up for tonights practice and reviewing girls registration forms....Yep, player has only just turned 7 on 7/5!! My oldest girl will be 9 in October.

Now it all makes sense. She should be U8 not U9 - usually I would say hey great if the girl won't be frustrated playing up a division let her play!! But in this case....wow. Seriously she wants me to call her by the nickname her baby sister calls her - first name + bear. As if.... ;) And during practice on Monday when I asked her to reposition herself on the field...she hopped like a kangaroo!! :sad2:

She really is the cutest little thing but I am afraid she is going to get hurt.

No wonder her mom said my practices were too late - she goes to bed at 7:30pm!!!

What to do, what to do...

Do I give the mom the option of having her moved?? Or contact the league and see what they say?? I really don't want her to get hurt.

Why is she on your team anyway? Isn't she too young? I'd ask someone from the league first before you bring it up to the mom. If she's smaller, more immature and less skilled than most of the kids in your division, I think you're right on the money to be worried about her. I'd be worried about her getting hurt and her ability to handle the disappointment of being the worst player.

Hummm. Being the parent of a spindly kid who's 2 yrs. behind where he SHOULD be with his swimming I can sympathize with both sides on this one. If there is another league / team she can be on then I say you should first talk to Mom and / or Dad and make sure they realize she's out of her league (literally out of her league). Make sure they know there's another team for her age that she should be on.:confused3 Maybe they're new at this and don't know any better? OR maybe they heard that you're the BEST COACH and they wanted to go to the best!?:goodvibes

This week I have been working on where to put DS for his fall / winter swim program. I spoke to the owner of this place today. Last winter we didn't know there were so many options for the winter - we just thought we had to go with the county programs...but now we want to put him in the program run by the guy where Coach Kate coaches in the winter. I really liked his summer team coach. She is a HS Biology Teacher and the Swim Team Coach at the HS where he will go one day and she coaches on the side in the winter for this Hydro-Sonic Tiburones place as well. She coaches the teenage competition team for them so she wouldn't be his coach again, but I like the sound of this program, although it's a lot more expensive than the county (by about $400 which I hope will be worth it). They say they focus more on correcting their strokes more than they worry about their yardage. That's what he needs right now still. We probably won't put him in meets just yet with this program (they're optional - and cost more to register for them). Maybe later, in the spring. First and foremost I just want him to get his strokes down. I think he will enjoy it more too without having to go 5 days a week for 1 1/2 hours in the freezing cold water! They practice at 3 different places so I have been studying their practice schedule. We can pretty much pick our days & times & locations and go 2-3 times a week. Friday nights they will have 1 lane for this Jr. Development program at a community college that is only about 3 miles from us - I like THAT idea! At least 1 practice will be close! Then the next closest pool is about 9 1/2 miles away. They have 3 times available there on the weekends and then on Monday evenings. So I think maybe we'll try to do Fri., once on the weekend and then Monday eve. Their Wed. practice is too late IMO (8-9:00 pm - by the time we get home & get him showered & in bed that's too late). The other days are down in Rockville - that's not a LOT further but a little. Maybe another 5 miles. Gonna send the registration & deposit in tomorrow. The first practice is Sept 13.

Taters are goin' up. Means less chips!

I wonder how kangaroo-baby was placed on your team in the first place. As the league is liable if she gets creamed by an aggressive 9 year-old, they need to know pronto. Could have been a clerical error. Maybe Mom thinks highly of her "skills" and wanted her to play up. Whatever the case, in this litigous time, the league needs to cover their tookus.

I'd like to know how this one plays out.

Thanks for your replies. This is definitely a clerical error as on my "official" roster they have her birthdate as 7/5/2000 not 2001.

So I am thinking tonight I will verify the birthday with mom. I emailed the league registrar to see what our options would be if mom decides to move her. I will battle the league on this one if the mom wants her moved as this is the leagues error to begin with. If they cannot find her another team she can play on mine. As long as she is not frustrated and/or scared.

Yep, that is what I think I will do.

Will let you know what happens....

Oh and Annie - I definitely think it's a Best Coach thing as well.;) But I will leave it up to mom to move her or not. Although next year she will really be ready for U9s!!

Tough situation, Johnna, but I would definitely say get her in the division she belongs in. I know we have strict rules about what league you are in based on the date of birth, literally down to the day. Im just wondering did the mother purposely enter her DOB wrong or is it just a typo that got her in the wrong division. Very strange. :confused3

They're very strict here too. Even for a child who is within a week of the cut off date, nope, no allowances. Exceptions are made for tournaments (kids can play up with permission).

If she's going to be kangaroo-bobbing around the field (and potentially watching butterflies) she would do well to be with other hoppers and watchers. JMO

And of course which player was not a practice tonight.

Hoping the league emails me with an option. I will need to talk to the mom before Monday as we are switching practice fields so I have to tell her about that seeing as she was not at practice tonight when we made the decision.

Our league says they are strict but seem like incompetent ****s most of the time.

Katie to answer your question - the mother wrote her birthdate as 7/5/2001 but on my official computer generated roster the date is 7/5/2000. So a clerk somewhere made the mistake. If indeed its a mistake. I would think the moms info is correct but of course I will verify it with mom first.

No email from the league tonight....

I agree. Her safety is my first priority. I don't want her to get hurt.

Did you get my voice message today or does that take forever like a text??
