I"m not sure if this is the right board to post this on or not, but i've seen other things about ebay here.

We are new to the whole ebay thing. We are really just trying to sell things to help with wedding/honeymoon expenses. To help get our rating up, we bought a few Disney pins for trading. So far everything has been great, until today. We got this pin in and there is more paint missing than the picture showed, we figured no big deal its for trading anyway. We left him neutral feedback mentioning the condition, but we were satisfied with everything. I got an email from seller here is what it says:

Would you please send me back the pin , because the one is missing
pain(t) is rare. Pins that missing paint or letter or different of the rest
are RARE. I will give you money back . try to put it in the same
envelope Return to sender. Please

He then sends us a 2nd email about an hour later with examples of other error pins missing paint and such. He stated he is learning as well about this.

My questions are this: #1 is this legit? does a seller have the right to ask for an item back after the auction has closed, payment received, & shipped. He has not left us feedback at this point which concerns me as well. I"m afraid if we do not return the pin he will leave us negative feedback.
My 2nd question is we payed via pay-pal how does a refund work with that?

I guess last but not least what would you all do in this situation, I"m at a loss. :confused3

TIA for all your help

I would like to know this too - I too am getting married this year and have thought about doing the Ebay thing.

It doesn't sound legit to me but I could be wrong. :confused3

Once you left feedback, then the transaction is over. I probably wouldn't have left any feedback before emailing the seller first to let them correct it, but since you already left fb then everything's done.

oh I agree, we are not complaining about the pin.....Its the fact that he is asking us to return it to him. I find it odd after we left the feedback he contacts us hours later wanting the pin back??? I think he believes this is now a "rare pin" and can advertise it as such and make more money. I"m not sure what to do this is a very odd situation :confused3

I wouldn't return it to him as you purchased it fair and square. Has he left you feedback yet?

If he wants it back bad enough, you could offer to sell it back to him at a higher price to start making money for your wedding/honeymoon expenses.

I think it's bizarre. And the seller has absolutely no right to request the pin back.

Also, just for future reference, it's generally considered "good ebayship" to contact the seller before leaving a neutral or negative feedback and give them the opportunity to make things right. It helps prevent you from getting retaliatory feedback as well.

The people on the collector's board on this forum might be able to give you info on the pin - maybe post there and see what they say about it?

You could look up your pin on pinpics.com and it will give you a good idea if it is really 'rare'.

Perhaps the seller was just upset that you weren't happy and made the offer to take the pin back. Of course you can tell him that you don't want to send the pin back unless he compensates you for your loss or just that you are keeping the pin. In any event, communicate with the guy and give him a chance to explain.

I sold my very first thing (extra meal vouchers) on ebay the other day. I've bought a lot but never sold....it was kinda fun, tho the sign up for the item was fairly intimidating and I made a few mistakes.

Good luck with wedding money!

I would be careful with this ebayer. He may just be learning but he could leave you negative feedback without real cause. (which has happened to me, made me so angry I couldn't sleep that night). I like the idea that poohj80 had. If he wants it back, he can buy it back from you. And I seriously doubt that a trading pin that has paint chipped off is considered rare. If it is mis stamped, then that may be rare, but not missing paint. BTW, there are lots of scams going on on ebay right now. Be wary of any emails you get. don't send any personal information until you double check.

So happy for your wedding! May all your honeymoon dreams come true <><

As another poster said, look up your pin on www.pinpics.com . Just put specific words describing the pin into the site's search engine, like "Donald" "2005" "Limited Edition" "50th" if your pin is a 2005 Donald Duck Limited Edition pin from WDW for the Disneyland 50th Anniversary. Also, post this question over on the Collectors Board. If you can't find the pin on PinPics, than maybe you can post a pic or a description...I'm sure someone will be able to help you ID it.
'Missing paint' on its own would not make the pin rare, *unless* this is an error pin. Sometimes pins get out with errors on them (like the Davy Crockett TV pins from the Disney Store that has the wrong production year!) and those pins can be more valuable. Notice I said *can*...just because some paint is missing doesn't make a pin worth more.

If you need some help, feel free to PM me :).

good luck,
agnes!

Be very careful on e-bay. I had my identy stolen because PayPal kept after me to verify my account with a bank account number. I answered an e-mail which I thought was from e-bay, very official looking, and gave out personal info that I should not of given. Go to the e-bay part that has to do with fraud and read all before you do anymore business on e-bay!! Do not answer any e-mails that don't personally address you by your name. I am also having a seller investigated because even though I was satisfied with the merchandise, the e-mail address she asked me to use for contact came back as an illegal host. Be very careful as internet fraud is very much on the increase!!!

That comment alone would make me leery of him, since that is clearly a dishonest thing to do!
