DIS Dancers?

Mother of a dancer here!! DD has been a clogger for 9 years. She just quit the team this year, but still has done some competiting in solo events. Her team did both contemporary & traditional style clogging. They made it to the Junior Olympics twice.

Mother of a dancer...dd is 8 (in 12 days) and will start her 5th year of dance this year. She did ballet and tap at age 4 & 5 and we switched to a new studio so she could do all ballet. She loves it and I've seen such growth in her this last year. She also did jazz this spring and had even more fun. This year she gets to audition to be an angel in The Nutcracker.

There is a ballet exercise class offered for adults this fall at the same time as her class...I've been considering it.

I wouldn't say I'm a dancer, per se, but I do partake of some English Country Dancing. We have a local class once a month (soon to be twice a month) and have a couple of annual ball events (the Playford-to-the-Present ball and the Jane Austen Evening). We do authentic Regency era dances (Jane Austen style stuff). I call it genteel square dancing. For the ball events, everyone dresses up in Regency era gowns and such. It's really a load of fun. Might try out Scottish Country Dancing soon, too.

Our studio also has a teacher who does all different types of ethnic dances, including belly dancing. I haven't tried that yet but am thinking about it. We just got a certified Zumba teacher and classes start next week. I am going to give that a try. I need to do something to lose some weight.

Belly dancing looks like so much fun--I keep wanting to take it!

Go for it! I always feel taller and thiner after a ballet class

I went to a Scottish Ceili once, where they taught the dancing and then everyone got out and danced. It was sooooo much fun!!! I love the dance scenes in the Jane Austen movies.

Here is a picture from this year's recital (my favorite of the ones taken).

Hi all - had to pop in quick and share this. I'm watching a documentary on the Ballet Russes and it's fabulous! From Netflix; title is "Ballets Russes", from 2005. Amazing to see ballerinas in their 80s - 90s?! - with full extensions, still working at the barre each day.
