LMP, I'm concerned about you too. Prayers headed your way. Keep us informed.

Today was a busy day. I'm glad we all have off tomorrow to recover. Wait, tomorrow looks to be busy too. Darn it.

I have to work tomorrow. DS is out for the holiday, so we will have to think of something to do. He is out Tuesday, too, but DH is off so they can hang out at home.

We finally managed to get all of our Christmas decorations packed away! There are still some boxes that need to go to the storage unit, but that will be the last of it! I was moving some stuff around under our bed and ran across another entire box of Christmas stuff that we never got out this year. Oh, well! Maybe by putting it in storage with the other stuff we will see it next year! :rotfl: There were a couple of things in there that I knew were around somewhere, I just didn't look for them under the bed!

I still have 2 big lighted ornaments on the tree in front of my house!:sad2:

I would have to get one of the kids to climb the tree to get them down, and it's been too cold/wet/snowy/slippery since the rest of the stuff came down.

You'll get to them eventually. Are they red? Maybe you can pass them off until after Valentine's Day! :rotfl: It really is a lot more fun to get the decorations out than it is to put them away!

One is red, the other blue or purple. (They're part of a set of lights-- they look like oversized versions of the bulbs that were always on the tree when I was growing up.)

These 2 were so high up that I couldn't get to them before the last snow was forecast. (Trust me-- at age 50 I am NOT the one climbing that tree!!!) The kids weren't home when I got the others down; by the time they got home the snow had started.

So we're playing the game of "if they're not ON, they aren't there" until the spring thaw!!

And in the meantime, we can be THAT family this year-- the one that the other neighbors talk about because our Christmas decorations are still up.

You are in good company, Alice.

I have known lots of people with Mardi Gras trees. It is just better to decorate your tree with green, gold, and purple and then you are good to go.

Quick Update - I talked to the NP, she heard me wheeze
Put the dr. immediately on the phone, he heard me wheeze.
He said to get into the office ASAP, so as soon as my dh comes home, he is taking me.
If you dont hear from me send a pm to Tuffcookie

I am so glad you called the doc's office, and glad you told us a way to get in touch if you can't post.

We care.

We're WAAAYYY too far from New Orleans for most people here to recognize those as Mardi Gras colors, but thanks for the excuse!!!

LMP-- we're pulling for you.

luvmarypoppins- Surrounding you in prayer sista...:grouphug:

Ann- Congrats on your clean mamm!:cheer2: And your trip sounds lovely!

Maureen- Yes, it's the icing on the cake! Well worth it. :thumbsup2 I can totally relate to what you posted about looking back (interesting... considering your screen name.) I never knew what I had in me until I was pressed to endure and overcome...
Your trip sounds great too. And your hubby sure deserves that free pass!:thumbsup2

Barbara- Another magical trip... I can't believe how close her due date is now! I'm sure you all are having fun preparing for the little princess.princess:

Alice- It sounds like rads is :boat: along."One day at a time." (or hour/minute/second) was one of my mantras during chemo...puts it into perspective.

My decorations are all put away, but I secretly love seeing the Christmas lights that are still up. I'm still listening to Christmas music too...especially today, we finally had our first snow of winter...(quietly :tiptoe: off)
:grouphug:

Hey that is why I am here, to educate y'all.:goodvibes

Actually, I knew... my school does a big Mardi Gras celebration. The kids get free candy (Starburst) during lunch, and the kids who hand it out are dressed in Mardi Gras garb.

But I'm pretty sure no one else on my block would have a clue :)

Alice, I am surprised your school does it. Is it a Catholic school? Also, do you have transplanted Louisiana natives going to the school?

GTAGWTA :wave2: Good evening sistas

Well I definetely got a fastpass on the cancer coaster today

1. Surgeon looked into my trachea with the lovely camera after he told us depending on what he saw I might have to go to the hosp. and get oxygen and a possible trach. Praise God !! The trachea was good. He thinks thie wheezing might be due to the bp med. Well my bp was like 167/97. He also said go sleep in the recliner if I cant sleep laying down. He says he wants me to see a pulmonoligist for a pulmonary function test. I dont know when I can do this. The preop stuff is thurs. Dh is taking me to that. He is leaving friday and will be on a red eye back a little earlier so he is changing his schedule.

2. The surgery is now moved up to Jan. 29. It will be about 2 pm till 8 or 10 pm.

3. I got to endure the lovely core biopsy today. Wow, can I just say my dh said he almost threw up. He was holding my hand. I can take alot of pain since I had the 3 ds with no epidural etc. Well it hurt like heck, but I toughed it out. The needle was huge, not as big as a knitting needle, but huge. He had to make 3 passes as he called it. He didnt like the lst sample, so he did 2 more. He explained to us about his talk with the 2 pathologists, both of these men who see thousands of stuff have never, ever, seen anything like what I have. They think its like 1 in 10,000 to 1 in a million. They are asking around their little pathology circle to see if anyone knows about this. They think it still could be the meduallary cancer but its acting in a way they never saw before. I asked him if they save some of the stuff, in case I go elsewhere in the future.

I took some tylenol. Its obvious the surgeon was talking to the endo because he said, oh she told me as soon as the 14 days were up (for the bp med) we were good to go. Wow, I dont know how this bp med is working with these numbers. I should say I never had a problem lately. I think its nerves etc.

So there is the latest update. Thank you for your prayers. I am sending an e mail out to the friends and relatives etc. I think I am going to call it Rare and Prayer - a little update on Maryann. Heah, I got to keep up the sense of humor right?? Well the surgeon knows I drive him crazy with questions and now he said if he thinks my question is trivial etc. he will just smile at me. :confused3 I told dh I am thinking of getting him and the staff a nice fruit basket when this is all over. DId any of you give your surgeon a gift? He has really put up with alot from me in the question and driving him crazy dept. He did crack a joke with dh. And sweet dh took me out to the Outback tonight with ds17 because he said I was so brave today. :thumbsup2
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Bless you all.

You poor thing!!!!

Are you going through Sloane Kettering or one of the other local hospitals?

Take care, and keep that sense of humor. It's more important now than ever!!

snappy, yes,it's a Catholic school. For Ash Wednesday, we always kick off some fundraiser for the needy-- we don't sell sweets and ask the kids to donate their dessert money to whatever the cause is. (This year, we're hoping to help build a camp center for Camp Anchor-- the local summer camp for disabled kids.)

So we do it up for Mardi Gras the day before, even though no one on staff, as far as I know, is from New Orleans.

I am going to Stony Brook for the surgery, but am keeping Sloan Kettering satellite in Commack in the back of my mind for the radiation or a consult etc. I see they also do teleconferences on stuff, that would be so much more better than going into the city. Our friend is going there now for rads and chemo for uterine cancer. I am going to have dh talk to the dh as they are friends through a charity endeavor. I have only met the wife once and she is sweet. I just want to know how they do things there. She had her surgery at Sloan in NYC as you did.

LMP, it's always good to hear that you're one in a million, right? ;) Keep that sense of humor. It'll serve you well. Glad they didn't have to keep you, and also glad that the biopsy is behind you. Each hoop you jump through is one more towards diagnosis and surgery and getting better. More prayers heading your way.

All my Christmas is taken down, but some still needs to be packed away. I keep saying tomorrow, tomorrow, but I may go do a bit before I go to bed tonight. I'm tired of working around the pile.

We went to see DH's birth-uncle Ralph who just had quadrupal bypass surgery a few weeks ago. He looks terrible. Hadn't seen him for about 4 months and he looked like skin and bones. I'm worried that he might not make it. He's had a stomach flu on top of everything else. It's a shame because he's a very nice man. We also got to meet another member of the "family". Birth-uncle Phil is here visiting from California I believe and he was at the rehab center. I catch myself searching faces for glipses of my DH's face. I can see a little of him there. It's strange because for years we only knew his adopted family and now sort of has two families.

:daisy:~~~***GAGWTA sistas***~~~:daisy:

Maryann- What an ordeal! I'm glad you got taken out to dinner afterward! May I suggest (feel free to ignore;) ) that you make an appt. at Sloan for a second opinion. Your case is so complicated and since the pathologists aren't sure what it is, maybe the larger cancer center has seen it before. I have had similar experiences...even with smaller issues. I stick with the university hospital now. Keep laughing :rotfl: and I'll keep praying!:thumbsup2

She had her surgery at Sloan in NYC as you did.

Actually, it was my next door neighbor who went to Sloane; her next surgery (to replace the expander) is in 2 weeks.

I went to Winthrop. I think my next surgery will be at LIJ since the plastic surgeon is closer to there.
