Hey! I was just sitting around, as I usually do, because it's hard to sit square ;) . And I was thinking, MrVisible's thread on The Martian Child turned on a lightbulb over my head, well, that and my hand, I can't see in my basement! :lmao:
ANYWHO!
I was thinking: Why don't we get together on our message board, once a month, and recommend a book to read, regardless if anyone else has read it, and come back after on a specific date and give our thoughts on the book.
Does it sound like an idea to anyone else?! If it's a yes, I'll defer the first book and read date deadline to someone else. I don't handle pressure well. :hippie: I'll put a poll up and see how many yes and no's we get by the end.

Sounds good to me! Of course, book stores in my area are limited but there's always the library!

Count me in too...I love reading, but I'm stuck in the same genre, like a bad time warp! I'd love to join.

I'm a busy mom of three kids, work from home also - but I love reading -- I keep going to Borders twice a month and buy a book, read the first couple of pages and then run out of time....I would love to join a book club ... see what other people like reading and maybe it would force me to keep up!!! This sounds like a great idea!

I'd love to join as well. I'm a college student, so I spend a great deal of time with books. It's just that they're usually not something I'm interested in.

Sounds like it's resounding so far with the yeses, we'll still wait though until the poll end date (11-18-07) to get started in the mean time, if you guys want to start, and catch up to me on a book I've read 3 times, check out "The Eyre Affair", it's by a Welsh writer named Jasper Fforde, his books are my all time favorite Comedy/Drama/Horror/Vampire Hunter/Parody type. ;) Let me know what you think, it's not the official first book, this is just a teaser.
If anyone is interested as well, check out the Sony E-Reader, I have one, and it's the best thing ever, I love books, but this thing is the bomb! LOL.

I really love to read, but have become a bit picky over the years. I've acutually learned to stop reading a book if I don't find it interesting! Wow! A major breakthrough for me, who used to read whatever I started regardless of whether I really liked it!

So, I'd love to read along with all of you, but must admit that I don't much like vampire things (or romances, or westerns...). :guilty:

Oh no, Jasper Fforde isn't about Vampires, he's about everything in between, and, well, I don't know how to describe him. He's just good.

Historical Fiction is my favorite genre....currently reading Saturnalia by Lindsey Davis. More accurately I should say I'm listening to Saturnalia...because its an audiobook. I love it..it's like having someone read you a bedtime story. I also love Agatha Christie and Georges Simenon.

I have a book I picked up in the $0.50 bin at my local library, and it's very interesting. It's called "Pride of Kings" and it's a fantasy book based on the whole King Richard/Prince John succession. Very interesting.

Hey Hey Hey! Let's wait out turns, I was just suggesting one to get some conversations started until the poll runs out. If not, then we're going to have restrain ourselves to PM's and smaller discussions. LOL.

Oooh, that sounds good!

It's already out. It's called First Among Sequels. It's great as well. All kinds of plots going around. It's so Jasper Fforde.

Cool! Now...can I wait until someone asks what I want for Christmas? Or, wait until my next wdw trip (Jan) so that I can buy it in the US (roughly 25% cheaper at the moment and getting cheaper all the time? Hmmn...

Maybe, when the poll runs out, there should be a poll (just for a day) about which book we should read. Start by listing all of the books that have been listed until then with a brief genre note. What do you think?

I know Kev. I have it and the iPhone, I never need to open my computer or a book, but I still do. LOL.
As far as the poll for the book goes, for the first one that would be great! I'll go back and take notes as to who suggested what, and when that person get's the book, we'll go down the list, and so on. How's that sound?
