Our next trip is SO FAR AWAY!!!

What should I do??? I feel like the only "Sane" thing to do is to take a break from the Disboards!
I Love getting all the great tips, strategies, and "things we now know", but it is so depressing knowing that we still have a year and a half to go!

What can I do to make the time go by more QUICKLY??
And how early do you all make reservations for you Resorts, etc...???

Thanks for helping with my depression! :sad1:
Because my husband just doesn't understand! :)

I'm in the same boat! (Trip in Nov. 2007.) But I must say, I wouldn't take a very long break from the DIS.

Our last trip, I started on the DIS about 16 months, maybe more, ahead of the trip (with another user name) and looking back, I feel like that really extended the excitement of the trip. It doesn't seem like I had a 7 day WDW experience, it seems like I had a 1.5 year WDW experience! And I learned a TON. I felt like we had such a good time because I was armed with so much information that became second-nature knowledge to me. We were able to go with the flow, change plans, and be flexible because we knew what to do in all kinds of circumstances.

It's also why I came back to the DIS today. Our trip is in 19 months, and I decided I would spend some time nailing down the basics. (Trip dates, number of days, etc) This way, I'll be able to come up with a full budget in the next 3 months. That will help us save for the trip in a big way. Each kid in the family can put a portion of their allowance towards the trip into their savings accounts (ING, earn over 3%.) The longer ahead we plan, the more we can save, the more we can do. (Like a fireworks cruise!)

So I say yes, take little breaks, but don't force yourself to go away for too long. Some days when it is just too hard to wait and you are too deep into the DIS, step back for awhile, enjoy regular WDW-free life, and then come back ready to plan some more!

Shel

Thanks for your advice! I think it would help to take a small break and clear my head.
I totally agree with you too, I feel like I have so much VALUABLE information filed away from these boards! :cool1:

Have fun with your planning!!

I am going in November 2007, started planning a couple of weeks ago. Some days I just want to sit on the Disboards, but get annoyed my trip is so far away, so yea I have to take breaks, hopefully it will be easier with summer coming and nice weather. I will definately keep coming on though, wouldn't want to miss any good info. got so much so far. I already know which character breakfasts/lunches we will be doing so that is exciting. And I bought a notebook and made sections to store all of this great info. cause I could never remember it all. I love looking at the menus and deciding where we will eat in all of the parks. And when it gets alittle closer , maybe after christmas(I don't want to drive my kids nuts too) me and the kids will start making our personalized autograph books, and photo Album, oh and of course a countdown. Oh and I really can't wait for this November to read trip reports and see how the crowds and weather was. :bounce: :Pinkbounc
We will be there soon enough :cloud9:

I found the DIS after my trip last March, then after about a month or so, got kind of depressed at the whole "I don't have a trip planned" thing- but still liked the site. I found the Budget board and became obsessed with saving money and finding good deals (it was a lifesaver at Christmas time!!) and then found the Community board which I just love.

There are other things to the DIS than just trip planning!

I've come around to the Attractions and Restaurants boards recently with having just made reservations for our free dining trip in September, but had spent very little time on boards other than the Budget and Comm. Boards prior to this.

I found that it's kept the "Disney love" alive this past year even without having a trip planned :goodvibes

Ahem - fall of 2008 here!

I plan on staying active here, probably some times more than others, until trip planning can start in earnest for my next trip. Mostly to stay up on trends and tips so I'm even more prepared for my next trip. I found these boards so valuable planning for last months trip!

But I admit, being here makes it even harder to resist not planning a trip for next year!

It could be worse. Since I'm out west, I have no idea when my next WDW trip will be. I would like to go to Disneyland once more during the 50th celebration though.

Now, when I have a while to go, I go to the DISboards more, because Dan Murphy may post pictures with songs which will make me feel like I am there. :)

I don't even HAVE a trip planned :scared1:

I took a long break from the DIS but then a few weeks ago I started missing it. I try to avoid the Trip Planning boards for the most part and spend most of my time on the Community Board :thumbsup2

Hoping to get a trip with DM planned soon, once I figure out some job situations :Pinkbounc

I can't leave this place...
I just love being here so much.
And I don't have any plans yet either, just recently started to think about a trip in January '07...

That's why I hang out in the Community Forum. I used to only read the trip planning boards when planning a trip. Then I discovered the Community forum and read that between trips. I probably should take a break, but I have no plans to. I don't know when we're going back next, but we don't have a trip in the works right now.

What character & other dining have you decided on?

Remfam, where in Oregon do you live? I'm from OR (haven't lived there in many years).
