This is exactly the reason. They've said so more than once. They can't announce things until they have signed contracts in hand. Pete hinted at a very cool venue for the live show, for example, but they don't want to tell us something that might fall through. I have no doubt that as soon as they have definite information to share, they will share it. There's no benefit on their end to withhold info. They want people to come. That's kind of the whole point. They do own a travel agency after all.

I'm not going (wahhhhh) but if I was, I'd be making plans for every day other than the "main" day, and just expect that if there's an event or meet up that interferes with your ADRs, just make a choice as to which you'd prefer.
Like always, plan your trip to within an inch of its life, like a commando Disney fan, but also, as always, be flexible and prepared to change those plans if need be

No commando here. We don't plan anything. The only thing we reserve in advance is where we're going to stay, and sometimes I don't even do that until 6-8 weeks in advance. That's it. Everything else gets done on the fly.

The only reason I want to know the details is to nail down when we are arriving and departing and what days I need to take off from work.

We are! Never stayed at a Deluxe before, we got our APs in the mail and can not wait to use them.

That's great! Maybe we can plan something, or at the very least see each other there . You're going to love the Poly. Mom and I have stayed there together a couple times before, and I've stayed there going on about my 5th time. It and The Grand are our absolute favorites! Enjoy!

I feel like this is the case here.
They (most likely) aren't holding back the information like "hey Pete, let's see how much we can get the DIS fans to ask and beg and complain about these plans before we release them"
It's probably because they aren't ready to release yet.

EDIT: however, I do enjoy all the information that is being leaked for the events at Pete's house and speculation on fast pass times and ADRs for that.

Also coming from a job that included financial planning/contracts, etc. Jes, I agree with you too - a lot of times The Team has even said in the past they don't have signed contacts, etc. in place, so they can't release details. Things can (and do) change all the time, and better to release the info that's as right and current as they can make it, than to go off half-cocked beforehand. I def do not think they are holding onto info "just because they can".

That being said, I also will not be there, but understand everyone's being edgy to find out/lock details down, and will be living vicariously through everyone. I'm sure whatever eventually happens will be awesome, and I'll love hearing about it.

He doesn't understand there are things to book!!
I'll book ADR's next week just in case, they're easy to cancel and I will know within the next month if it's happening, so I wont be holding ADR's from people for too long if we change our dates.

I haven't told my husband yet I am hoping to go alone. I have never done a solo trip to Disney. However, it won't really be alone, because a DIS friend in my town is going too. I might try and make it sound bad, so that DH doesn't want to go I also don't know how to break it to DS that mommy is going to Disney without him. Ah, he'll get over it, right

DH and I had a kid-free week at WDW in 2014. The kids were ticked, but there's no way they would have enjoyed our monorail crawl and drinking around the world. We brought them souvenirs and they were just fine. Of course, they've made it clear we can never do that again...but I never agreed!

I might send DS to Grammies (grandma's) for the week. He would give up almost anything, maybe even a WDW trip, to stay with her He usually stays with her for a week in the summer anyway, and I think I can arrange for it to be during that time

Sounds like a good plan for your DS. I need to hear the details of the festivities before I put any suggestions out for DH and family, but I'm thinking grandma and grandpa may be involved. My parents are FL residents and have already talked about driving up to meet me if I were to go on my own. So, maybe we all go to FL and the girls spend some time with grandma and grandpa while we do DIS stuff. We shall see.

That's great, and smart. Definitely get those ADR's booked. Sorry the husband is being a tiny bit difficult. I know it's hard sometimes when people don't love it, or aren't as well informed as we are . I'm sure he'll come around though! Good luck, and have so much fun in August!

I'm thinking seriously about coming to at least some of the events. As things stand now we are driving down from DC area (spending the night with NC friends on the way). We would arrive the evening of the 23rd so hopefully I won't miss too much. We are planning to rent a vacation home of some sort and stay for a month, so this will be the big kick-off. DH and DS13 (huge Connecting with Walt fan) will be on the trip but we will have to see about the events to see who's coming to what.

I'll admit here that while I'm excited, I'm a little nervous. I listen to rather than watch all the podcasts so am not part of chat. I'm also not active on the boards. Just worried that I'm going to be the only one coming who won't have any friends already... But, maybe I'm just thinking like the middle schoolers I spend all day with!!

By posting here, you already have friends I probably won't know many of the people, and I don't know the Podcast team at all, except for watching them. I haven't been watching for long though.

I'll admit here that while I'm excited, I'm a little nervous. I listen to rather than watch all the podcasts so am not part of chat. I'm also not active on the boards. Just worried that I'm going to be the only one coming who won't have any friends already... But, maybe I'm just thinking like the middle schoolers I spend all day with!!

Going to your first meet is a little awkward. Middle school is not a bad analogy. However, the similarity ends once you're there. In case you can't tell, we are a very friendly group. I now consider some of my DIS friends to be among my closest friends even though I've only known some of them for less than a year. Don't let the fear of not having friends keep you away. I guarantee you'll have friends by the time you leave, and actually well before that.
