Dirty Books

I remember reading a book in highschool that was my dad's. I found it on the top shelf of his books (he had hundreds) kind of hidden. I noticed there was some crusty stuff on it, but didn't think too much about it. When I told him I was reading it, he said, "Oh, I thought we threw that out after your sister puked all over it." Needless to say I never finished the book. :scared1:

As for other used books, I've no aversion to them, but I definitely check them out for crusties before I buy them! I have an old "Alice in Wonderland" book, not sure which edition but it is very old that my sister (same one of the puke glory) got for me as a graduation gift from highschool. It is beautiful! And no crusties at all! :thumbsup2

No - I'm actually about the furthest thing from a germ-a-phobe you will ever meet and we are actually really rough to our books around this house. We eat and read, read by the pool and spill ice tea, throw them on the floorboards of our cars... I was raised to believe that books are meant to be USED, not protected and that's how my kids view them too. So we destroy books, but we have alot of fun doing it. And I used to buy tons of used books. We've been cleaning out the house though because DH has been developing sinus issues.

But we're a Kindle family now and a good disinfecting wipe doesn't hurt that Kindle one bit.

And oh man I haven't read a Jackie Collins in years. I wonder if Hollywood Wives is on Kindle? I need to go look.

I agree. With my Kindle my hands stay clean! Especially reading newsprint.

So, to the people that don't like dirty books, are you generally germophobic too? Just looking for a pattern -- I'm not judging, just wondering.
Not at all. I even (gasp) sit down in public restrooms! (How I've survived for 40+ years remains a mystery.) For me it's about the aesthetics of the book - the feel, the smell.

We literally have a wall of books -- old and new -- mostly hardback. Got to have the feel of a book in my hands.
