Directv vs Dish

We had DirectTV in IL. We loved it. Can't beat the amount of chanels you can get for the money. We didn't use the interent though, we always do DSL through the phone company. Now we have DISH network through our building. We only have the basic package, no extra chanels b/c it wasn't worth the hassle. For the stations we have, I can't say we have any issues. It has gone out more than our DirectTV ever did but that could be a result of the weather difference in IL vs. S. Florida.

I do have to say that I much prefer the DirectTV customer service over the DISH customer service though. We get basic through our building with DISH and when I was trying to build on the service through DISH they were very rude and not helpful. I gave up ... We are moving again in 5 months and I WILL make sure we have a SW facing view so we can get our DirectTV back... it is currently suspended!

We had this problem with DirectTV so we switched to Verizon FIOS. Now we get phone, broadband and tv on the same package and we are very impressed with the quality and performance.

I live in BFE. I can't get a line out here to get broadband or cable tv.
Our phone line is so horrid it goes out all the time. There are only 6 of us on this phone line. I highly doubt they will even think of replacing it!
Sure would be nice if we had other options though!

Dish is great to its new customers but once they have you committed, they aren't all that great at customer service. All the good deals go to new customers while existing customers get the shaft.

From a quality and programming standpoint, there is very little difference to me.

If you switch to dish be sure to ask about discounts you might qualify for! we are getting the americas everything package for $84 or $94 a month. this is including tax!!

We had Dish and switched to Directv. We were constantly losing signal with Dish every time it rained. I am not talking a major storm, but just a light rain.

We have had dish in our last three homes.....

Here in Frederick, MD - some as above poster...we lose signal in mist sometimes.

In Germantown, MD - We were about to mount on pole under our deck. No signal problems except for the feedback from the bad wiring in our house.

In Williamsport, PA- Only lost signal before/after really bad summer thunderstorms.

Amen to that... I have thought of cancelling my subscription on more than one occasion to get the free DVR deals that new customers are getting. Here i am a 5 yr customer and am stuck with our basic boxes or have to pay full price to upgrade.

ITA.

This is the reason we switched to DirecTV. We wanted to add TiVo and an extra reciever to our packeagge and the cheapest the lady said they could do it was $300 plus an instalation charge. She wa also really rude and acted like I was terrible for wanting to change the status quo.

Switched to DirecTV and got two extra recievers, TiVO and Installation for free. Every time we have to call CS they have been very nice and fix whatever problem we really quick.

I have had Dish for over a year. My only issue was something minor during installation. Once in a while, I lose reception during heavy rain, usually during a thunderstorm. Most times it's only for a few minutes. I chose Dish over DirectTV because of the price difference. I didn't want tone of channels, so Dish has been perfect for me! :thumbsup2

Exactly why we just ordered Dish and are cancelling Directv as soon as it's installed. We've had nothing but problems everytime we need support or upgrading. We ordered an HD DVR on 12/22 and they we're supposed to get back to us to schedule a set up and they never did. My DH has been on the phone with the at least a dozen times and transfered several times with each call. Everytime they say we don't know when we we be able to set it up, blah, blah, blah. However, they are advertising guaranteed setup by the Superbowl to NEW customers! Well, what about me? I've been a customer for 5 years so why can't you tell me when I can have my HD? So after talking to several supervisors who just don't care we called DISH and they are coming out on Saturday! I say go with DISH.
