Directv DVR question

ETA: Since everyone seems quite interested in why I paid for a DVR when I should get my equipment for free......I did get a free one, but I wanted two more and didn't want the regular HD boxes they wanted to add in for free.....I wanted three DVRs! So, yes, I did pay for two of them!

Anyway, back to the original question:

One of our DVRs seems have some issues. It will sputter often, show the frozen picture but the sound will continue, or the picture will show but no sound comes on.

It is only occasionally so it isn't a huge deal, although I hate getting 45 min. into a show only to find the last 15 min. has no sound!

Anyway, my question has to do with the "rental" of the equipment. I paid (I believe) $200 for the DVR......and yet they say it belongs to Directv and I am only renting.

So, if I need a replacement for this one, do I need to pay another $200 for another machine? Or can I simply swap it out?

Thanks,

Dawn

They'll swap it. The $200 you paid was your lease fee, so instead of paying it monthly you paid it all up front. Just call them and tell them you have a faulty box, but the downside is you might have to wait awhile for them to either get a box to you or for a tech to come out.

This was happening to 2 of our DVR's Dh called the Directv and ask for the techs, and he told them what it was doing and they did some tinkering on their end and the DVR's are working fine now!! My tivo box has lost its connection twice! The DVRS have a Q service level but tivos have a P service level and some times my tivo gets flipped to a Q instead of a P and then it has a fit and won't work and I call Directv and they fix it on their end and then I 'm a happy camper!! So just get the tech service on the phone and they will help you out!! directv is very good that way!!

Ok, so I must have gotten someone who didn't know what she was talking about.

She said they can ONLY do a fix WHILE it is happening and not if it is recorded.

I think I will call again.

That is strange because I always get a $6 lease fee monthly for both of my recievers. I was never offered to pay $200 and then not get a lease fee?

If you have really good credit (or what they deem as good credit) then there's no up-front charge for the equipment. If you do not have good credit then they charge you the lease fee up front. It's one big reason I decided to not go with them, even though I'd love to have Sunday Ticket, is the up front costs.

Did you pay for any equipment?

I pay $6/mo lease fee in addition.

I think I was offered one free DVR and two free HD receivers, but I wanted all DVRs so I paid for two of them.

It depends on what equipment you want. I was offered one "free" DVR and two free regular (HD but not DVR) receivers. I wanted 3 DVRs, so I had to pay some for the other two that weren't offered for free.

I have excellent credit. I got my equipment for free, on dvr and one regular box, and a $6 monthly fee for one of the units.
