DirecTV dropped Viacom channels

We just signed up for Direct TV last month so dh called them tonight. He got $10 off for 3 months and the Starz package for 3 months. I would have never thought to call in and complain, thanks OP.

I don't personally have an issue with what DTV is doing. If they do not stand up to these companies they will charge what ever they want and raise prices at will. They are saving us money in the end.

I am still in contract, half way through my 2 year. My kids are so upset abut the nick shows being gone. They could care less about Disney Jr. They are 10 an 12 and really like all the nick stuff.
My first choice would be to get out of my contract. Is that possible since they changed the channels I signed up for?
Second is there something in addition I can sign up for to get Nick shows? My kids don't want to watch tv on the laptop.
What are my best options here? Thanks

But I doubt it is all Viacom's fault. Look, the Viacom agreement is 7 years old. To expect their rates to stay flat after that is ludicrous. There has been some inflation and increase in costs. DirecTV is being irrational there. To expect DirecTV to pay some exorbitant sum is ludicrous on Viacom's part. And then to go to the public finger-pointing at one another is just wholly unprofessional and childish by both. I have zero time or patience with either. As I can't get money out of Viacom, I will get it where I can and hopefully goose these two moronic institutions to the negotiating table to behave like big kids and get the job done already. I'm tired of their public petulance. On the plus side, makes it easier to enforce TV-free nights which can hopefully lead to cancelling altogether which is exactly what my brother did.

So, funny story. I kept seeing posts about this on facebook and assumed it was some other carrier. It took us 4 days to notice that it was Direct TV! All we watch is Disney channel and PBS (and exclusively on DVR)! Good thing our DTV bill is only $25 a month!

Called today for my Dad and they said the same as above ($10 off for 3 months and nothing else) but that EVERYONE would be getting it. I asked the person 2x to verify that everyone would be getting it even if they did not call and she said that they would. I would not wait and see, but give them a call to get your credits and maybe more if you get a different CSR.

They are only giving me $5 off a month and free showtime. What gives?!!

I am not so sure I agree with this. My bill keeps going up, if VIACAM or whowever wants a little part of the increase. Why shouldn't they get it? They supply the channels to DirecTV, if DTV gets an increase so should the other companies. DirecTV is just trying to keep the increases in their own pockets.
I don't want ANY increase in my bill, but if they are going to increase our bills and the other companies don't see any of it. I can see why they have an issue with it.

Ya...I'm bummed. I like to watch Real World. LOL! Been watching that show since the very first season. So I'm a little annoyed!

Think they'll become available again?

I love Real World too and watched it this weekend on MTV.com. You can still watch it online.

My son is having a worse time than me--he is having Spongebob withdrawals without Nickelodeon:rotfl:

$10 credit x3 months and $50 off the NFL Sunday ticket. Better than some, not as good as others. On the whole, we are pretty happy. Works out to $80 for a 7 minute phone call! :thumbsup2

Well, our local NBC WXII is in dispute with Time Warner Cable. We not longer recieve local NBC news. Actually they replaced it with a Pennsylvannia NBC. Now TWC is in trouble for using Penn Station without permission.

I miss watching Live with Kelly and I especially miss our local weahter.
Oh, well it is always something.

Just called and they gave me $10 for 2 months and free Showtime and Starz for 3 months. I'm glad I read this thread because I wouldn't have known to call either. Thanks OP!:thumbsup2

Just called. I got $10 off the next 3 months and another $10 off the next 6 months :thumbsup2

They tried to give me the $10 off 3 months and free showtime for 6 months but I told them we are not big movie watchers. That is when they then offered the $10 off 6 months in addition to the $10 off 3.

She did bring up football - but once again we aren't big fans and what we get to watch on CBS is good enough. We're hockey and basketball fans

(the $10 off 3 months is for the Viacom mess is what they said)

I called for my mom. The customer retention guy I got really played hard ball. He only offered $5 off for 3 months. Period. He said they were not supposed to allow anything else and if someone else got ...blah-blah-blah.

I really had to argue about a movie channel and he offered Encore for 3 months. She is already paying for it (w/stars) so he finally agreed to remove it from her acccount and put it back on for free for 6 months.

I guess I got to the party too late. I was given ONE $5 credit and told that it had only been 6 days and how much could I expect? In the mean time I could watch the Encore that had been added for everyone. Also told me I should be glad the DTV isn't just agreeing to the increase since it will only be passed along to me!!

I called today and initially they only offered $10 off for 2 months. I politely declined, spoke with a supervisor and received $20 off of this month's billing period and then $10 off for the next 6 months. We cant switch providers because of Sunday Ticket so we'll take it...

I just called and only received a $5 credit next month. But I didn't really complain too much, considering it took me almost a week to even notice! ;)

Please share, you will see my dismal results a few posts up and I want to try again...or convince my husband to do it:thumbsup2

My results were enough that I don't want to post all the info here. I will say repeat to the cancel, cancel, cancel mantra. If you get the right rep you will be very happy with the offer. Make sure it's a retention rep not a regular supervisor. The wanted to offer me the $5 or free pay channels but I said no thanks & went up the line. Non issue now as I just found Nick is back.
