the registry threads inspired me to post this. My dh's aunt is getting married this september and when we got the invite there were no directions in it. we called about it and she told us that the woman who did her invites told her it was tacky to include directions in the invite and they should be mailed separately.

huh?

I have never heard of this before. we were married almost 7 years ago and most definitely included directions, and every one of our friend's wedding invites have, from CA to MA.

just curious if we are the only ones who think this is odd.

I always get directions in my invites

Directions to church and also to hall

We sent directions with our invitations. This is the first I have ever heard of directions being sent with the invitation could possibly be tacky!

Well then call me tacky because when we sent our invites out I sent deatiled directions/map with them because all of my Dh family was from another state and most of the guests had no clue where the little church was.

I wouldn't have had time to wait for all the RSVPs to come and then send out the map/directions to people I knew where coming considering there always the last mintue people who decide to come.

We sent directions in our invitations. No time to do it otherwise.

are you serious?
who would want to pay for the extra postage?

include them in the invite - that way the guest has everything together...and runs less risk of misplacing a separate mailing.

I'd say it would be tacky to let all your out of town guest get lost trying to find the church/reception hall. :p :p

I don't think it's tacky at all. I always appreciate it, especially when I'm not familiar with the area.

I have seen them professionally done on the same quality paper that the invitation is on.

I do think it looks odd when they are xeroxed on your basic white paper and tucked in.

I have never heard of that being tacky. Whenever we've gotten invited to any type of wedding or party or anything, we've always gotten directions to the place with the invitation, otherwise we'd get lost! That would be kind of pointless to have to send extra letters just with the directions, it would be twice the amount of work!

My invitations are going out in the mail tomorrow with map included.

We actually double-side taped them to the inside of the invitation so it all looked like it was one piece--sounds funny but it looked very nice.

That way they couldn't get lost (presuming that people affix the invitation somewhere--cupboard, fridge, etc)

Why would it be tacky to let people know how to get to your wedding? Funny.

I've never heard of sending directions separate from invitations. We've always received directions with the invites and we included them with our invites as well.

Wouldn't it be helpful? After all, if you have a friend or family member that is either from out of town, or just doesn't want to drive after, then they can see where things are to plan better!

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I can't even think how that could be tacky. Tacky is inviting someone to a wedding and not telling them how to get there. I would tell the lady that if it's so tacky she should send them out on her own dime.
