Last time we drove to DL we relied on MapQuest directions. Big Mistake. We ended up getting all turned around and lost about 1-2 hours on the way out there. We'd like to avoid that mistake this time around. Can someone give me some good directions coming from I-10 in Phoenix, or direct me to a reliable website that can give me good directions? Thanks!

I always use mapquest and did when we went in december. there is a spot where you turn (last 15 miles of trip) and the freeway is under construction and it is always confusing. but hopefully soeone here will have better directions. if you call your hotel they should give you directions!

This is what happened to me last time, we ran into construction, but I played it by ear once we turned around :confused3 I grew up in So Cal, but freeways change all the time. I hope you get some good directions because I was going to count on Mapquest again for our March trip. I'll see if I can get any tips from an AP holder that I work with to post here.

We're leaving in the morning and this is the route we always take:

10 West to the 60 (going to Riverside) which eventually merges with the 215
Take the 91 exit (that's the confusing one with little signage). It's the second one of the two that are right close together.

Take 57 South and exit at Ball or Katella (whichever floats your boat).

I hope that was clear enough. ;)

We also went this route when we lived in Glendale, AZ.:thumbsup2

Whatever you do, do not get on the 215 going South!!!! Go 215 NORTH, mapquest tells you to go South, but DO NOT DO IT!!! We've ended up doing this 2 different times (because I forgot not to listen to mapquest at that point, and that area is under construction, and you can't just get off and turn around, it is like 3 or 5 miles before you can get off the freeway and go the other way, totally gets you screwed up.

That's all I have to say about that, lol. The rest of the directions are good to go.

91 is almost always under construction. My daughter goes to college out there and the easiest way to go is I-10 to 57, then straight south to Ball Rd. or Katella. It's a few miles farther, but definitely less time. I can go from my driveway to Disneyland in 5 hours. That's with no potty stops, which has only happened once. The best advice is to AVOID 91 at all costs!!! 60 is also a windy (curvey) road.

My recommendation is yahoomaps or google maps. Mapquest seems to screw us up more than help us. It always seems to send us the long way or the wrong way.

Last year we took the way the OP got lost and got lost, too. We asked at GCH for a better route going home and did the opposite of this post (57 up to 10 since it was the reverse. We got home to Cave Creek in just UNDER 5 hours. Definitely do this route. It is simply not worth the construction problems, confusion and curviness of the roads on the other route despite what Mapquest or any other map program says. It may not be as quick as the crow flies going this route, but it is so much easier and more direct that it winds up being faster.

And I thought I drove fast!!

If you use Mapquest, go to the green box and put in your starting and ending address. Then once you have that, click on Add a Stop (even though you're not really going to do that). Then you get a step by step list and you can click on Avoid for any of the roads you don't want to take. The original Mapquest for us to Disneyland is 5 hours, 16 minutes and 357.58 miles. After I Avoid CA-60, I-215, and I-15 (you have to do each one individually, in that order), it is 5 hours, 25 minutes and 367.85 miles. They base the time on the miles. But it's much easier driving and actually less time going I-10 to CA-57 directly.

Hope that helps!!

I live in Moreno Valley, which is just east of the crazy 60/91/215 interchange and if you are not familiar with it, it can be very confusing. I would avoid the 91 at all cost due to construction and heavy traffic. The route I take to get to Disneyland is 60W to 57S to Katella. You will make a right off of Katella. I would follow the advice of those who said stay on the 10 until you hit the 57S. :goodvibes

Have a great time!

I heartily agree! Just STAY on the 10 fwy to the 57 South. The construction around the 60/91 is a nightmare and would be easy to get turned around. Keep it simple:
10 West
57 South
Ball Road- go Right, go a couple miles to the DL Theme Parks/Hotels entrance! You'll know you're close when you see the big green DL Offices building on the left.

Have a great trip!:yay:

And I thought I drove fast!!

It was a rare day without an ounce of traffic! We got gas in Anaheim, grabbed snacks so we didn't stop for lunch and only made one bathroom stop along the way.

I have to agree with avoiding the 91. I don't travel on that freeway because of the problems I hear on the radio and have never really needed to travel on the 215 so I don't know that freeway very well.

I would also suggest going straight from the 10 freeway to the 57 South. Avoid the 60 when it takes off from the 10 in Beaumont. It is very curvy and can get a bit dicey.

Let me tell you also that after you get on the 57S, it will eventually merge onto the 60, stay in the right hand lanes and it will connect with the 57. Then you will travel probably 7 - 9 miles until you reach the Ball or Katella exit.

After you exit the freeway, you are on your own after that:rotfl: When I go from my house (north Orange County) I take the 5 freeway.

Good luck and have lots of fun.

Candace
