Direct to Room- Dining credits?

It was my understanding that in the past you had to check in at your resort before your dining credits are activated.
This year we are staying 3 nights at POR(no dining plan). Then we are staying at AKL-Kidani for 7 nights (with the dining plan).
With this new direct to room option, we are thrilled bc it allows us to check out of POR, drop off luggage to be transferred, and head straight to Epcot for rope drop.
However.. My concern lies with our dining credits. Does anyone know if these will be activated even when using the direct to room option?

Good question. The assumption has been that for those coming in (not a split stay), the DDP and room text are "activated" and sent to you when DME scans your band or if driving, when you go through the parking lot security. This is how WDW knows you're truly "on site". For a split stay, I don't know at what point they would determine this.

Hadn't thought of this. I'll be arriving very late on my October trip so the idea of direct to room (and the bed) appeals to me, but hadn't thought about activating my credits. Would love to hear someone report back.

Haven't done it ourselves yet, but others have reported that the new "skip the front desk" advanced check-in did activate dining credits for the first day of their package reservation.
