Direct purchase perks, I thought I wouldn't care much but..

I thought I wouldn't care too much about direct purchase perks. But now after my 3rd DVC stay I am hooked.

There's something about going to the nice cool lounge for free soda and using the clean, cool, empty, pleasant smelling bathroom that has me not regretting my choice at all. I have not been able to experience direct perks at WDW yet, only DL and Aulani.

I will admit the free merch when you go so often builds up and becomes redundant.. I now own 8 DVC hats. But on my recent trip I scored the bamboo Mickey coasters!! As I was walking away with mine I passed a guy carrying his back to the room and we just looked at each other like yeahhhh IYKYK.
Agreed…. #TeamHybrid

I feel like it's one of those things that when you have it, it's great and when you don't have it, you convince yourself you don't want/need it lol.

I'm in the latter group. I have 3 resale contracts and am perfectly happy not having any perks and paying much less for my points.

Hopefully, in the future (sooner rather than later 🤞) we will buy direct and qualify for the direct member benefits. I'm sure when that happens, I will love having all the extra benefits and unrestricted points!

We started off with resale and it served its purpose. Got Disney rooms for better prices. Then, my favorite resort VGF came back online so we sold our resale and bought direct. Didn’t really need them, but love taking advantage of them. If there is a perk we can take advantage of bc we are direct, I do it. Staying at BLT, we are going up to TOWL. Staying at Aulani, doing the member event. DD7 made sure we stopped at the dvc desk every day on our cruise and we got hats, chapstick, bags, and some other stuff. Also love the discounts in the gift store or restaurants. Most of the time we would have gotten discounts with our Disney visa but sometimes DVC has a better discount. For dining, if the discounts are the same we use the dvc discount along with a discounted gift card we purchased throughout the year.

We didn’t get the backpack when we bought. Since we split our contracts, we ended up with 4 gold water bottles. I bought the backpack on eBay, bc I loved it when I saw people using it. Turns out it’s a little too small.

My son also loves stopping by the desk for stuff at Aulani.

We just renewed our passes dropping from Incredipass to Sorcerers pass and buying a new pass for our son who just turned 3. For the five of us since we are not going to Disney World this year over Christmas but going to Disneyland as a stopover on the way to Aulani saved a little over $2000. Our direct points are less than 10% of our points but have enjoyed moonlight magic a couple of times and the lounges and now some pass savings. Owning a good amount of points can make being a hybrid member more worth it.
