Direct or resale....newbie!

Tonygee, you didn't get the best deal, but you got the only deal available for what you wanted. Had you been willing to buy a different resort, or maybe wait a few years for VGF resales to come down in price, a different deal would have been available.

My husband likes expensive cars - its one of his few vices. If he wants a new E Series, he is going to pay more for it than someone who is willing to wait three years for that model year to be available used at a reasonable price. If he wants an E Series, he won't be able to get the same deal he'd get if he wanted to buy a Lexus - still a very nice car, but you can generally get a better deal on it because it doesn't have the Mercedes name. (And he wants a new E Series - actually he wants a Tesla, but that isn't within MY definition of reasonable budget for a car - so he needs to compromise - it doesn't sound like you needed to, so don't worry about it).

I know we're off topic here, but if you're seriously debating between a new E-Class and a Tesla, buy the Tesla. The cost savings from gas and maintenance more than make up the difference, and the resale value is much higher with the Tesla. Their previous model, the Roadster, still commands over 60% of its original cost six years later. A E-Class will be worth about 50% after three years. Personally, I went from a 7-Series to a Tesla and couldn't be happier.

No, because I won't let him spend the money on either one new. So he needs to get a used one, and used Teslas are far too pricey yet. Maybe next car.....Or when our kids finish college and we have nothing better to do with our money :)

There is nothing of real value currently in the new vs resale decision, ASAMOF, DVD is doing resale buyers a favor by forcing then to avoid poor choices. However, for your purchase, you really don't have the option as it's not available resale to any degree and there really isn't any savings to be had for the few that are. One of the problems with buying as the initial purchase retail at a high end resort is that every time one uses it for something else, they are eroding the dollar value of what they put in initially and yearly. So for VGF it's really a simple decision of whether the resort is worth the almost triple $$$ premium compared to SSR and the expected much higher fees.

I thank all of you for the kind and sound advice.
