Direct Only Booking Website

very risky to borrow ahead now that they say borrowing is back to a final transaction (I know they have been making exceptions on a case by case basis), but that's putting a lot of pressure on owners to do this method as everyone's travels are changing frequently with the world news.

but until they fix it, the other risk is that you lose your reservation while waiting for MS to complete the transaction for you.

I missed another booking. I have multiple contracts. What am I supposed to do? Borrow from all of them proactively when they’ve been clear there is no unborrowing? WHERE IS THE FIX?

Sounds like this is affecting resale points far more than direct points. I think there has to be a connection there. Disney will play dirty.

It definitely is impacting more resale points. But there are a lot of owners with resale points who have had no issue at all.

And there is no pattern either. Some people are blocked with points bought before and after the change and some not.

So, as I have said I don’t think it a was deliberate move when the restrictions went in place last year but definitely think the fix not happening is now deliberate and we should be told why.

May I make a suggestion as someone who has had to deal with this multiple times now? Before your 11 or 7 month mark, call MS, make a dummy reservation and get your points borrowed. Then cancel that reservation online and those borrowed points will be there when you actually need them. It's still a hassle but at least you aren't wasting time and possibly losing your reservation. The other option is to book what you have the points available for, even if it is just one or two nights, and then call to borrow and modify. This doesn't make it right, but until they fix it, it makes it easier.
This suggestion is great if it's for a planned room reservation, but Monday morning a AKV club level became available for my first night, and I wasn't able to book it because I was short 5 points. This was at like 6:30, so MS wasn't open. I'm still bitter that I lost it because DVC IT sucks.

So, I did a little trouble shooting on my own contracts. I have 4 resale contracts that I was trying to borrow from and kept getting the seven dwarves. I noticed on 2 contracts, it showed the correct amount I could borrow (50%) and the other two showed I could borrow more. I booked a room borrowing from the two correct contracts and amazingly it worked! I tried booking/borrowing from the 2 that showed I could borrow more and neither one would work (dwarves) - either separately or together.

It just made me go HMMMMMMM….. Of course, it really doesn’t matter because I’m still going to have to make a call.

Interesting. I wonder if people who have had issues could check. Maybe we can figure out a pattern and then tell IT what is wrong so they can fix it!!!

Hmmm that’s a thought. I have a 100pt resale contract, and it shows me 50pts available to book, which would be right, except I’ve already borrowed 32pts.
The glitch isn’t just on the website though, because when my husband called to borrow those points, even MS wasn’t able to do it.

It isn't fair to create new rules because DVC can't make a working website.

Disney has never had a working website. Or at least a *good* one. Their tech has been awful for years and years. It's why I was so surprised several years ago that they made the Disney cruise app and it was SO good.

I have friends who work for Disney IT in Seattle. The managers don't care. The ones doing the work are *young* and don't care. A young friend who does care, whose family went to Disney regularly and knows what a good Disney site should be, was turned down. I don't know why they bother having Disney IT in Seattle.

it's pretty clear this is a known "glitch" with resale contracts

Glitches are glitches. If they were easily replicable, then they could be more easily fixed. Even just in this thread you can see that different people are experiencing different things. That's why it's a glitch, and not something broken that can be easily fixed.

Their back end stuff would have to be different for direct vs resale, because they behave differently in other ways. Seems there's something going on in how it all communicates for resale.

wow, you must be my member services rep #6. This isn’t a sold out sweater from the department store. These are millions of dollars worth of real estate contracts with rules.

If they can’t implement the rules fairly for resale points in this system, they need to come up with another plan. I continue to await that plan.

I understand the website sucks. We are all well aware of that. I’m not ok with taking bookings from resale because of how badly it sucks. No one should be ok with that.

I guess in the interest of equity, until Disney can solve the issues with borrowing on the website, we just not allow anyone to book online. Then even more people will call on the phones, but at least no one can take the rooms before MS opens anymore.

The rules are not first come, first served -- not first come, first served if you don't have to borrow a few points.

There are a lot of solutions they could implement to double check or tentatively approve borrowed point transactions. They chose this one.

I saw someone say on the disboards facebook page the other day that they thought the problem happens when you try to modify and borrow at the same time. So when you are trying to add on more days or move to a higher point resort. Their solution was to make a dummy booking ahead of time to borrow the points that they needed and then cancelling that and then doing the modification they needed to their actual trip. I don't know if this is universally true or not.

I went to make a booking with my resale points and it borrowed just fine. I haven't tried modifying yet.

That is a lie that it is because it is resale points. It is an error in the system. I usually do not borrow points, have a mix of resale and direct points. I borrowed from my contract and use year that only has resale points - my last add on in 2018. Had zero problems with that. I have had multiple glitches in the system, one of which being I had to call to reserve my room in the 11 month window using a mix of direct and resale points not even borrowing points- neither the direct nor resale points would allow me to book. I had to call MS to reserve the room. There are glitches in the system, when IT fixes one problem they create 10 others.
