Direct flight from Charltotte-How much?

I'm still trying to arrange a flight for my mother for our May 6-12 trip. She only wants a direct flight and will only fly from Charlotte (thanks for the cooperation Mom! )

I was imagining that it would be cheaper since it was closer than my airport here in Hartford, CT. Boy, was I wrong!

What can I expect to pay? US Air has tickets at $225 rt now. Is that about the best I can expect? Should I just get it now? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Charlotte's a tough one because US Airways rules the roost. My husband and I need to go to Charlotte from Jersey (Phila. Airport) and US Airways wanted $287 round trip. No way! We're flying SW from Phila to Raleigh/Durham for less than $200 total for the two of us and renting a car to drive to Charlotte. I refuse to pay those prices. You will notice once a low cost carrier like SW starts flying to/from an airport the legacy carriers will drop their fares to compete.

Southwest has been considering (hope they still are, and that they hurry up) coming to Charlotte - they'll have more business than they can handle if they do!

I know that sounds bad but that is pretty good from there.

I flew my daughters out of Charlotte to Orlando this past December and the best I could get was $118 one way.

Good luck. If you been able to get ahold of Wendy's cups that would have been the cheapest.

If by "direct" you really mean non-stop (direct technically means stopping but not changing planes) then the answer is "whatever USAir is charging."

As a general rule, if you shop fares on Saturday you are not going to see good fares, because Saturday is when the major airlines customarily float price increases. Try again early Tuesday morning; you may have better luck then, but on a monopoly route it just may not get too good.

Yea, that's what I mean. She would probably forget she was supposed to stay on the plane and get off.
